British/ US low carbers.....The Net Carb Solution......

Hi I noticed that some people ask if it is possible to track net carbs.
I can do this by simply using British supermarket (Tesco, Sainsburys, Aldi, Morrisons, Waitrose ) values which show the net carbs under the carbohydrate heading. Of course you have to be able to weigh your food in grams but it's not too difficult to convert 1oz to 25g.

I think the problem is that there isn't a net carbs under the carbohydrate heading.
I was going to ask a similar question involving Chia seeds. I was told the way to figure out the net carbs was to subtract the fiber from the carbohydrates. But when I tried to do this with Chia seeds it came out as negative carbohydrates.
So what would be the net carbs of a serving of Chia Seeds?
ETA Gosh that's a large picture, sorry guys0 -
@Lois_1989 In this case, as with most British labels, the Fibre (fiber) has already been subtracted from the carb total. If the fibre number is HIGHER than the total carb number, you know it's already been removed. Also, you see how sugar is listed UNDER carbs, but indented? That means it's part of that number. Fibre is listed separately, so it's considered it's own listing, meaning it isn't under the carbs number... In the US, fiber is listed UNDER carbs with, just like sugar is on this label... So, my educated guess would be that if fibre/fiber is listed under carbs with indention, it hasn't been removed. Listed separately, it's already been removed from the count...
So in this case, a 15-gram serving would have 0.7 grams of net carbs, 6.3 grams TOTAL carbs.1 -
I concur with @KnitOrMiss.
I was recently in Ireland and Fibre was its own category for packaged foods. If you are using both to track on MFP and have the net carbs script, make sure your entry has the fibre lower than the total carb count or else you are going to get a negative number and it gets confusing on your log.0 -
Ahhh, thank you @KnitOrMiss and @samanthaluangphixay that actually helps a lot!0

It is possible to set MFP to show net carbs. I have been doing this for a long time and it works well. I don't think it works on mobile devices although I haven't looked. It is easy to do and to my mind worth the 10 minutes to set it up.

Happy to help @Lois_1989!
And yes, the script to show net carbs is super handy if you track net carbs. But, it does not count sugar alcohols - only fibre. So some user-generated net carb entries lump the sugar alcohol into the fibre count, which throws the script off and it will say 'bad data!' so it throws your total at the bottom off.
And yeah, it's not available on mobile. I use my notepad to keep track of my net carb count on my phone.0
