Make the Better Choice (MTBC) - 07/29/16
All of us are faced with those times when making the "best" choice is something that isn't going to happen. Sometimes that is by circumstance...sometimes by limited choice...or sometimes personal preference.
DOCKANZ, a GoaD stalwart for several years, coined the phrase "Make the Better Choice" (MTBC) several years ago, and it's become an anchor for several of us on GoaD over the years. Basically, if you can't make the BEST choice...make the BETTER choice. You can, at least, do that much.
So - how have you made the better choice today?

Yesterday I had 6 DPs left. Thought about a drink or food indulgence. Checked MFP and only 30ish calories left. Decided I was done.
Noticed today that I'd distracted my beef last night and actually had 171 cals left. Oh well, full I'll just lose a little more at next WI

Tracking/pre-tracking my breakfast/lunch/snacks in the morning. Gives me a really good idea how the day will turn out and if I need to adjust.
Really getting into weighing/measuring food as I then feel better when I know pretty much exactly what I am eating.1 -
Turned down an offer to go to the local micro brewery. I know I would have drank 2 days worth of calories and smart points.1

OMG, I did so many MTBCs yesterday I could be King for a day!
I had to go to the big city; land of donuts and other bakery stuff, sub sandwiches, chicken wings (Buffalo, right?), roast beef sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs, etc. In the old days, I certainly would have had my fair share and then some.
Yesterday, I had half a muffin with a cup of dark roast; didn't eat the other half. I walked one of those monstrous mall parking lots just to walk (a first for me)! Instead of getting the (real) char-grilled foot long hot dog and the regular sized one I used to, I opted for open-faced chicken souvlaki instead. I even brought part of that home and had it for dinner.
Best of all, I felt good for doing all that the 'lifestyle way'...4 -
I was feeling really snacky last night but I had eaten plenty of food. I stopped and assessed and realized that I was exhausted from the week. Instead of continuing to eat I put myself to bed and slept for 10.5 hours! Woke up this morning feeling loads better and ready to tackle the day2

Yesterday was National Wing Day, what can go wrong? I made the choice to make my own on the grill subtracting a lot of the restaurant add in calories. We even had plans to go out, but I felt better afterwards.0

I've been double-tracking in WW and MFP. I entered a salad using my default dressing and it put me over the sodium range for the day. I changed it to a homemade olive oil and balsamic vinegar dressing and stayed within calories, points, and sodium.4

I've actually weighed and counted everything I've eaten for 4 days in a row This is new to me since I used to do Simply Filling. Just trying to stay at about 2200 calories a day.
Great news too, since I'm over 300 lbs., I burn about 800 calories on a 1 hour bike ride. Unless the Internet is wrong. Someone please correct me if this is not accurate1 -
I'm no expert - but the concensus on this board in the past has generally been that the only accurate way to measure "burn rate" was with a heart rate monitor. (Might want to extract this topic as a question/thread of its own to give it a wider audience.) An hour of slow walking was less that 125 points for me, and generally walking and biking have about the same caloric burn rate per unit of time.
I know that even on WW a round of golf would get me about 18 points, which didn't seem credible. I started putting in about half the time I actually spent to get a number I believed.0 -
