Weekend wins; how's it going?

I just got back from one of the dreaded group gathering picnics and am proud to say it was pretty easy to pick my way through it making pretty good choices. I had one hot dog without roll, a small serving of veggie salad (w/ a little pasta in it), a bit of lightly-dressed cole slaw (no mayo in it) and filled up on tasty fresh fruit. I didn't give the ho-hum store-bought desserts or even the homemade ones a second look. None looked really worth it, which helped make the choice easy. I was not dreading or worried about this meal but it turned out to be even easier than expected.

How's your weekend going; any wins or challenges behind or in front of you?

Awesome! Nice to come out the other side feeling happy with your choices.

I wrote some about my choices at a shower in another post, but to sum it up, I had fresh fruit, raw veggies, a little lightly dressed raw cauliflower salad (I avoided the bacon, never would have done that pre-WW), and 4 potato chips. Skipped croissants with mayo heavy chix salad, tuna pasta salad, cheese, cake ...

I'm pretty pleased with myself too! And tomorrow we're having swordfish for dinner, si no challenge there. It feels great to be on plan, on a weekend!

Awesome; great win Lin! It is doable, isn't it?? I think the satisfaction of sticking to a plan and making good choices, one at a time, really reinforces that we can do this but we have to be mindful of both long-term objectives and short-term satisfaction. Well done; keep at it!

Thanks Kim! Your comment about the satisfaction of sticking to a plan is something a visiting ML pointed and it really resonated with me! What she said was that we are not only proud of ourselves when we reach goal, we're proud of ourselves when we are working the program. I've been basking in that pride a bit and it's been a great motivator.

Disrupting the whole guilt / self-deprecation cycle from overeating or frequently making choices inconsistent with my objectives (my definition of a 'bad choice') has been a good motivator for me too. It's not a big celebration; just a little win to help me keep going toward the next good choice. String several of those together and it really helps me want to keep going because it gets me the results I want.

On another note, glad you found us Lee! How are you and your MINI doing??

Weekend started great, but slipped a bit yesterday late afternoon (my most challenging time). I have got to have healthy choices available from 3:00-5:00 otherwise I start to just snack!
Today is my 23rd Anniversary, I need to make a sustainable plan and STICK to it. I long walk through Kansas City Plaza is in order for sure.
Lin-Great job on your decisions at the picnic, I'm sure they made you feel great afterwards.
For those who I have not met- I'm Corbin by the way.

Went to dinner and elected to substitute sautéed veggies for asparagus risotto. Not a major sacrifice, since I'm not an asparagus fan. (It's a visual thing; for me asparagus looks like something I used to clean out of the ditches when I worked on a farm in my youth.)

In the interest of a balanced diet, though, I did eat the potato chip topping on the broiled haddock. It gave it a suggestion of a deep fried crunch without the oil of frying, and the salt on the chips added a nice flavor to the haddock. Of course, that topping was probably as many points as the risotto I avoided - but I'm still taking credit for it as a "better choice".

I did not make healthy choices (double serving of cookies for dessert and 1/2 10 inch bar pizza). However, since I did a 2 hour martial arts class, biked 17 miles, and took the dog on an hour walk I'm not being too tough on myself. Once the sodium gets out of my system my guess is I'll break even even though I went way over cals before exercise.

I'm trying to not beat myself up for when I don't make the healthy choice. It's all part of the lifestyle right?

It is, Rachel. My honest belief is that we all have a finite supply of "no" available for a given day. You need to know when to say "yes" to some things during the day so that you don't get into a bad situation and be all out of "no" when you really need it.

I agree completely @crewahl. Plus since I don't feel stuffed or bloated this morning I'm thinking my body needed the fuel even if it was more processed than my normal fare. And sometimes bar food just needs to happen :)

Saturday I was a couch potato, but Sunday was full of physical activity including a 5 mile bike ride and a 3 mile walk. Eating was within plan too. Regardless of what the scale reads, "I feel good".

Had a rare weekend of just "me" time. Got engrossed in a quilting project, only stopping to quickly reheat and scarf down some leftovers before going back to my quilting. No urge to graze (a common weekend problem for me), and got a lot done on the baby quilt I'm making for a friend's shower.
