Hashi, Weight Loss, Thyroid levels

Anyone have thyroid levels fluctuate? I have gone from .328 to 5.890 TSH on the same amount of meds 2 1/2 grains of NDT that I have been on for a year. Other tests like T3 and T4 are worse as well.
I have felt better though and I have lost 6lbs in the last 2 weeks. Don't feel like I am worse?

How has your doctor explained this? I'm pleased for you that you have been loosing weight and you have been feeling better. I have no explanation for the deterioration in your numbers except perhaps because Hashimoto's is characterised by fluctuations in antibody levels it could be something to do with this. For some reason in Hashimotos, the body has decided the thyroid gland is not part of you and wants to rid you of it like a cold or similar using your immune system. Its the same for all of us with Hashimot's the autoimmune hypothyroid problem. I think, your not feeling worse is good, it could be that something changed prior to your most recent test so if your test was repeated now your numbers could have returned to a better level, your normal so to say. Your current weight loss could be indicative of this. You may have been experiencing a plateau because of antibodies and it has passed for now, purely conjecture on my part.

Have you done some research for yourself? Reading from Stop the Thyroid madness, or Thyroid Mom even your national thyroid support site, for example these are very interesting sites on which to discover information. Thyroid issues can be among the most difficult to achieve the best, specific treatment for yourself. Most doctors tend to think its one simple problem for all of us antibodies or not but from what I have read it can be really complex, with something like 300 symptoms for our bodies to pick and choose from. Many of us would benefit from adrenal support or other endocrine support but most medics do not look into these possibilities when best practice is to find out. There are some interesting Functional Practitioners with free information on line too.

I recognise you are on NDT, which for those who are able to get it, provides some very good results. cw I wish you all the very best.

I find it worrying that general medicine, particularly in the UK takes it as read that one is not able to avoid antibody attacks but it may be possible to reduce the severity by discovering what are your triggers. Its not as simple as it sounds. It can be foods which disagree with one at an intolerance level and unless you can throw money at it, it is next to impossible to discover what is going on. What really upsets me is; its you not the system which is at fault. For too many years I put up with being fobbed off, its your age, its this or that. Please anyone, please don't let them spoon feed you platitudes because I lost at lest 20 years of my life, some of them becoming more and more reactive to stuff being almost house bound, because of Hashimotos causing increasing problems, till I started thinking for myself.

Please think for yourselves. Work out what is right for you and it is probably not just what you are being told by your doctors. Be asured there is no one answer to this. Supporting one's immune system, providing your body with the vitamins and minerals to enable it to work better could help. Avoiding various food groups may also help but its all specific to you what will help you most and the least long you have the problem before you take a positive action the better the outcome, while you have breath keep trying.

Thank you for your response! I see my doctor on Wednesday. Yes, I have spent the last year researching my disorder since my diagnosis. I have every book and visited many, many websites. I have been seeing a doctor (off my insurance, expensive) who specializes in hormones and thyroid who actually has hashi himself. He's the one who actually found it. Just weird that I feel better and my numbers are so much worse. I had some vacation trips this summer where my diet was not as pristine and I wasn't taking some of my vitamins (like curcumin and vitamin C) that help fight inflammation. My C reactive protein was worse as well so I must be in a flare.

    It's always something with hashi!

Sounds as if anyone can throttle this thing you will with the help of your specific doctor. Hope Wednesday goes well.

Beg pardon, never heard of C reactive protein before please could you tell me more about it? They don't test for much over here. Good luck

Hashimoto's is characterized by fluctuations in thyroid hormone levels, which can go on for years before the thyroid finally give out. It sounds as though you're going through this.

Hopefully your doctor will be able to sort you out. Lucky you, to find someone knowledgeable.
