swim calories?

So, how do you calculate the calories for your swim?
I've been going with the Fitness Pal suggested..... I'm doing around 1.5km in 40-45 mins in a session, logging this as "swimming laps, freestyle, light/moderate effort".
It is a moderate effort -I'm usually pretty tired after that and I don't really stop for more than 30 secs once or twice during the session.
I know calories will depend also on my size etc - but generally - do you find the suggestions are about right?

I put mine into mfp and it seems crazy high I log it and I don't eat my exercise calories...well not on purpose so I don't worry too much.1

Mpf assumed 50 yards / minute for the leisurely/ moderate. 75 yards / minute for fast.
I just enter 1 minute per lap completed.
It is more conservative than other Web site based calculators.
Depending on weight it works out to be around 10 calories per lap.1 -
I swim at about 1.27 per 100m which I usually count as fast. But I don't eat back my exercise calories so it isn't a big deal what it says.
Someone had a good swim calculator a while back on here.1 -

Thanks all - and thanks for the link, that's very helpful.
I'm only small (5'2") and at 1200 calories per day - if I didnt eat back my excercise calories I think I'd really struggle!

I posted a table in another swim calorie thread that compares two other websites and the MFP calculator.
MFP, for my case is more conservative (lower) so I use that.2 -
Thanks, helpful!0

interesting - I think I'll stick with the MFP estimates, which do seem a bit more conservative than the calculators but as I eat them all back should be in my favour in the long run. I'm glad they don't appear to be over estimating.
Wow I wish I was swimming 6km in an hour!!1 -

So do I. I'd be done with my morning swim in just over and hour instead of 2:15.1 -
6k in a hour...that would be lovely.

That is about the pace of an Olympic swimmer doing the 10km marathon swim.3
