I like 20 Counts, Chris, instead of 20 Seconds. That way I don't have to keep trying to read the clock when I'm upside down.

Get a timer Paula! I use a kitchen timer!

I did a kettlebell work out yesterday. I am sore.

Walked w/DH this morning for 5.17 miles in 90 mins and then walked w/DDD for 2.31 miles in 60 mins (she is very pregnant) (9.70 total miles for 20,397 steps) then got on the recumbent for 14.00 miles in 53 mins and an episode of Ray Donovan which was rather interesting. Then 100 bicep curls for another challenge. A good Monday.

I decided to do bicep curls also Chris. Mainly because squats are out of the question since my lower body is still a bit sore.

Shelley - my knees wouldn't like 100 squats at all! They would cry a lot!

Walked w/DH yesterday and today. Fifteen total miles between the two days. Then I went to 1st grade w/DDD both days to help set things up. Don't know what we are doing tomorrow.

    Hope everyone is doing okay.

Paula - This is what Hawkeyedgirl wrote...

"Why the gulp and feeling of needing to vomit? It is 100 reps from any of those exercises total for the week. That's only 20 per day and you get to pick the exercises you complete....i thought i made it pretty easy."

Yeah, I didn't know it applied to us here too. It makes this more achievable for me-types who are still working up to working out.

Paula - Well...it doesn't, unless you want it to...Shelley and I were just talking about which exercise we did for the LOTR challenge. I'm so sorry if we confused you. You can do the challenge above (or not) any way you wish. :*

Do any of you have your Fitbit linked with My Fitness Pal? What are the pros and cons of doing that?
  • cpanus
    cpanus Posts: 20,303 Member
Clara, yes it is linked to MFP. If I don't input my workouts MFP will register calories burned according to the steps I have taken that day. I am in a number of Fitbit walking challenges. It's fun and keeps me walking.

Walked w/DH this morning for 5.05 miles in 87 mins (7.03 total miles for 14,362 steps) then I got on the recumbent for 13.50 miles in 49 mins then I worked out to a KCM kettlebell DVD for 30 mins. THEN I went to Baby's R Us w/DDD, SIL and his mom for a shopping spree!! They got everything they needed for the baby's arrival. It was so fun. I just wanted to buy everything!! Baby can come any time in the next 16 days! So exciting!

Walked yesterday and today w/DH. Went to 1st grade this morning to help DDD put things in order. She met w/her sub for a couple of hours. She's such a worry-wart!! Oh, and I left my Fitbit on the counter when I went to 1st grade...**sob** and I was all over the school during those 3 1/2 hours!!!

I made her favorite bean/chicken soup today. Tomorrow we will put it in containers and freeze it for after the baby comes. We are also making Freezer Breakfast Burritos (sausage, eggs, spinach, cheese all cooked up and wrapped in a tortilla shells), and then we're making some special cookies she gets to eat after the baby comes. Cookies!! They have something to do with nursing. Yeah, cookies!

You make yum yum, mmmm.... I'm so tired from yesterday's walk. It just hit me. Tired but not sleepy, oh dear. My cat's trying to write something to you. Oof, that was my stomach.

Ack, gotta go now. you,
(oh dear, he just disconnected the cord)

    Kitty cats are so funny!

Chris looks like we scared Paula and were not even trying to.....this time. Muahaha B)o:)

Still waiting on the new modem. Or whatever the thing is that connects me to the internet. It is spotty at best. Takes about an hour to get on. And then it might not last!

I wanted to see what I was doing better in a bucket of salt water. Was cleaning a coral. So the overhead light was not cutting it. So I reached over and grabbed the tall free standing light to help. I was so engrossed in the silly coral that I completely forgot about the fan that was also on above me! Yep, I need a new free standing light! :*

We had our first tennis practice of the new season. Got in a hour before the storms came. I hadn't been on the courts for a month and I paid for it last night. I woke up with cramps...shin cramps??? What? I've had cramps before...thigh or calf...but shin cramps. Very painful...drink more water!!!

    Kathy,

Are those like shin splints? I get those, usually pounding downhill in a hurry. They were starting last week and I stopped and massaged them away before they got serious.

    Paula

    http://orthoinfo.aaos.org/topic.cfm?topic=a00407

    Nonsurgical Treatment
Rest. Because shin splints are typically caused by overuse, standard treatment includes several weeks of rest from the activity that caused the pain. Lower impact types of aerobic activity can be substituted during your recovery, such as swimming, using a stationary bike, or an elliptical trainer.

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicines. Drugs like ibuprofen, aspirin, and naproxen reduce pain and swelling.

Ice. Use cold packs for 20 minutes at a time, several times a day. Do not apply ice directly to the skin.

Compression. Wearing an elastic compression bandage may prevent additional swelling.

Flexibility exercises. Stretching your lower leg muscles may make your shins feel better.

Supportive shoes. Wearing shoes with good cushioning during daily activities will help reduce stress in your shins.

Orthotics. People who have flat feet or recurrent problems with shin splints may benefit from orthotics. Shoe inserts can help align and stablize your foot and ankle, taking stress off of your lower leg. Orthotics can be custom-made for your foot, or purchased "off the shelf."

Return to exercise. Shin splints usually resolve with rest and the simple treatments described above. Before returning to exercise, you should be pain-free for at least 2 weeks. Keep in mind that when you return to exercise, it must be at a lower level of intensity. You should not be exercising as often as you did before, or for the same length of time.

Be sure to warm up and stretch thoroughly before you exercise. Increase training slowly. If you start to feel the same pain, stop exercising immediately. Use a cold pack and rest for a day or two. Return to training again at a lower level of intensity. Increase training even more slowly than before.

Kathy, I hope your shins get better soon.

Walked w/DH yesterday and today. Went to 1st grade and helped out. We are going back tomorrow, DDD thinks for the last time until maybe Sept. Went shopping for soup ingred then put it together. It was a beautiful morning. The breeze was enough to make it really nice this afternoon.

    I'm going to read now.

Kathy I had shin splints! Went to the academy with the darn things! I spent lots of time tapping the next time around. Yep, just tapping my toes, feet on the floor whenever I could. Just kind of toughened them up. And for sure ice them. And heed Paulas advice where you can. Concrete surfaces are "hell" on shin splints!

Chris that sounds wonderful. I love a breeze in the heat.

I have not mentioned my shoulder pain. Just tried to ignore it. I have "frozen shoulder". That is the laymen's term for it won't move like it used to and hurts. Doc wanted me to get a steroid injection, uh no! Since it will run its course in about 6-12 months I will just take aleve and do the exercises he prescribed.

I have my computer back. But since I just got home from the Orthopedics I think I will catch up tomorrow.

Paula you should have seen it. That flimsy plastic light shade went "boom!" Flew everywhere around the room. But my fan is in great shape. B)

    Good luck Kathy!

Shelley, My DH had frozen shoulder.

He'd originally been told his condition was arthritis which would have ended his musical career. For arthritis, you don't use the joint. For frozen shoulder, you must work it. He'd gone years thinking it was arthritis. So a frozen shoulder diagnosis was actually a relief, because it can go away.

They gave him a cortisone injection (which I have had for my knee - it's miraculous when used judiciously). Then they manipulated it and gave him exercises and physical therapy to stretch it out. It took two shots and 3-4 months but it's gone now. (It's been several years since then.)

Paula that sounds awful. Glad it went away. I hear it really varies. Mine came on two months ago and I have just been working it. It snaps and pops at times. Good thing I did not baby it! o:) I move it everyday at work. I was worried I could cause the shoulder to get worse is why I went in. As soon as he told me it would most likely go away on its own I was like, show me the door! B) I was worried it could be something requiring surgery. But I know someone at work whose husband has to have surgery for his frozen shoulder. But I know mine is not that severe. Glad your DH is able to play still. That would have been awful.

Did the exercises recommended by the doctor. Got in some walking and otherwise had a relaxing day.

Good luck Kathy, have my pom poms shaking for your team!

Tennis practice - 90 minutes went well. I made myself stretch before and I believe it really helped...thanks Paula. No cramps last night.

    Good going, Kathy!!

Last week I didn't get in any biking miles or exercise DVDs done. I felt like I was cheating!! It was funny!

Today was normal. Walked 5.05 miles w/DH in 100 minutes then got on the recumbent for 13.75 miles in 51 mins and an episode of Ray Donovan then worked out to a 30 min kettlebell DVD. My weight is slowly getting back to my goal weight, and I'm happy!

Well, Derek gave me my day off, and I didn't log food either. But I didn't eat junk, so it should be okay.
