This thread is for GOADies who like to run. New runners, old runners, and even wannabe runners meet here to discuss the joys and challenges of running. Use this space to log your miles, ask questions, share your race reports, or for anything else related to running.

New runners - and even those just thinking about starting out - are always welcome. There's no reason to lurk here. Join the pack and tell us about your running!

Oftentimes the GotR thread will pose a question or raise an issue in order to facilitate the conversation, but this is always an open forum to chat about any running-related topic.

Topic: track and field from Rio begins today. Will you watch? Big finals events this weekend: W 10,000m Friday, M 10,000m Saturday, W marathon Sunday.

Alt: you missed a workout (or 2-3). Do you (a) try to squeeze the missed run in, (b) forget about it and do what's on today's schedule, or (c) other?

    Good Morning!

I did run 2 on the TM this morning.

QOTD: I don't think that I'll watch T&F on the Olympics. I just never have been a fan of watching that on TV.

AQOTD: I used to be obsessed if I missed a workout, and do everything that I could to make up that mileage. I am doing much better these days with that. The Xanax helps. I went through a bit of a bout with obsession when I lost my Fitbit, but I really love my new Garmin VivoSmart. I still have to deal with the problem of charging the battery on the fitness device, and what to do about the steps taken that don't count, because they were not measured. Sigh....

I ran/walked 8 miles this morning. It was the worst run of the year for me. At first my shins were really tight, so I walked a bit to let loosen up and stopped and stretched for a bit, but by the time my legs loosened up, I was fatigued and couldn't run for more than about 5 minutes at time. I still finished the distance that I set out to do, but it was pretty miserable. The heat wasn't bad this morning either. It was about 75 degrees, but humid.

I gave blood on Tuesday, but I don't think it should have affected me that much. I have felt that I've been slowing down over the past month as I did three marathons and 2 50Ks in July. Probably time to give myself a little rest.

I know I'm unlikely to find a fellow track geek here, but I couldn't resist making that part of the daily topic. I'll be watching a good bit of Olympic track and field. Especially looking forward to men's and women's steeplechase, men's 10,000, and men's marathon.

I will have to decide this afternoon what to do with my schedule. I did not do the trail run I was registered for on Wednesday, and then I didn't work out at all Thursday. Today is supposed to be a non running day, but I think it will be best to do some light running today, cross train tomorrow, then come back Sunday with a five or six mile weekend long run.

Have a great weekend, all! Great to see you here Steve and Tim!

I finally got out for a run on Wednesday! Slogged through 2 miles, but I was glad I did it.

I don't think I'll be watching too much olympics this weekend, I'll be pretty busy. Might be able to catch a bit of it here and there, especially Sunday.

Alt: When I first started running, I formed my life around my running schedule. Since then, I'm much more flexible and will change days around, but sometimes I'm flexible to a fault... meaning, if I miss a run I just shrug and run less miles that week.

I can't wait to tell everyone who missed it about my last run!
It was the 10K in March. Did anyone miss it?
I'm registered for the VA Beach half marathon. I guess I'll be walking it. Good thing my sister just had a major toenail accident--now she'll have to walk with me.

Good to see everyone. Has Stuart lurked over? What about Murple?

Glennon, I had to explain to a whole bunch of Olympic viewers all about pooping during activity...

QotD: I do like watching the track events and some of the distance running. I do try to catch some. The weekend will be too busy to get everything watched.

AotD: A younger me would have tried to fit the work outs in that I missed. This version of me has been in Cali all week and no C25k got done. One elliptical and one TM session got done between Monday and now. I will just start back up this weekend and next week.

Good run last evening on the TM at the gym. 3 miles with 3x400 pickups. Felt great to get a run in after schedule interrupted midweek.
