Amanda's Journey from IF to OMAD

I was trying to find some place where I could kind of journal on the process and progress of starting OMAD coming from doing IF (intermittent fasting) off and on for the past 2 years.
Hopefully this is the right place, if not, please redirect me; I did notice several others posting their progress but I just started so no progress yet but wanted to share my experience thus far.
I wanted to give some background information about how I found IF and OMAD:
Sometime in the past 2 years, I discovered IF- I think through NerdFitness, they wrote an article on it and it fascinated me and thus I began learning about the benefits of fasting. I also found the 5:2 book which I never finished reading. I can't recall how it felt in the beginning but it's always felt pretty natural for me and didn't face any struggles with fasting and discovered that it comes quite easy for me.
I've never been a huge breakfast person, mostly because I'm not a morning person and the longer I can sleep in, I will, with or without breakfast. So, I've been naturally IF'ing for years but didn't know the benefits and always felt I should be eating because that's what we are told by everyone.
I've also been trying to lose weight for as long as I can remember; I probably started gaining as a 4 or 5 year old from what I can see in pictures. Over the past 3 years I have been working on getting fit and healthy through lifting and cardio, counting calories and macros. The first two years were mostly successful with losing around 50lbs total ( I did gain about 15-20 lbs then lost it again within that time, gained another 15 or so, lost it and now I'm up.. another 15+ and in the process of getting back down again)
So now here I am trying OMAD and so far so good. I lost 4.4 lbs in just 3 days! I'm sure it's water weight but still, that's nice. The first 3 days were amazing. The 4th day I messed up because I had dessert an hour after my meal and the 5th day I went way off and got too hungry and ate late after work. Today I'm back on the grind. I'm feeling hungry only a few hours later and not sure why. I think I'm not drinking enough fluids.
So far, the benefits of the OMAD are incredible as far as how I feel and what I'm eating. I feel so incredibly sharp mentally and energetic (the first 4 days anyway). It's almost unreal how much energy and brain power I felt I had. I did have a few cups of coffee/tea but didn't go crazy with it. I also felt my mood was better overall. I'm hoping tomorrow I'll feel that way again since today I was tired and didn't do it officially; today felt more like an IF of 16:8 without the 8 ; ) I also found that fasting for 23-24 hours didn't feel like a big deal at all.
I have been sharing this with others and my zeal has kept people from questioning it haha. I am weary of telling certain people who believe in getting your macros in and eating 6 meals a day and all that. I still am trying to get more protein than fats and carbs but seems like carbs win sometimes. This is making me think ahead on what I'll eat for my meal and make sure that it's on the healthier side and has a lot of veggies and some fruit and lots of protein.
I have been sticking to the one plate rule, mostly. Sometimes I get food that's in a bowl and I know it would fit on one plate but I eat it out of the bowl. I've also had some smoothies with my meals or a protein shake. I know I'm eating way less than I'm used to but overall I'm excited about this and think it'll be great for me. I will continue to check in and hope that I can do this for at least one week straight and then see about a splurge day or if I can keep going for the two weeks like recommended.
I realize I'm long-winded, so please excuse me and I'll do a TL;DR for those who won't read all this ; )
TL;DR I've been doing IF on and off for a couple years, found OMAD, it's amazing, I lost 4.4 lbs in 3 days, off track for a couple, getting back on and love the benefits. I feel sharp mentally and super energetic during the fasts. I mostly follow the rules but occasionally digress. I'll check in to give updates on my experiences/results.

Keep plugging away, we don't have to be perfect, but overall we need to be consistent in this endeavor. Good luck.1

Thanks! Last night I was starving after work and ate family leftovers + dessert... so, it ended up being an IF of 16:8, so at least I still did a 16 hr fast. Today I'm feeling pretty hungry again... not sure how I got by in the beginning not feeling hungry! I think I need to drink more fluids.. really wanting to do OMAD so I just have to decide to do it and not give myself a choice.Keep plugging away, we don't have to be perfect, but overall we need to be consistent in this endeavor. I make sure I eat adequate protein during my eating window (whey protein-low cals). I think it makes the next day easier. I eat tell full each night also (be careful about amount of cals consumed if do this. I set my mpf goal at maintenance cals and consider any amount under that a success). Get full on low cal stuff before eating high cal food. Drink a glass of water before you eat). Next, I drink lots of water to curb the appetite while fasting. Next if im having a bad day, I might take a little coconut oil. If really bad I might give in and just tell myself I needed it and get back on the diet the next day. That doesn't happen often. A salad can get me through also. A little to get you through is better than binging but if you start eating, it can be hard to not stop at just a little. Drink more water!1

Count your cals to be aware of what your doing.1

Welcome!!! Again, you are soooo going to LOVE Omad lifestyle. Everything in your life is about to change for the better, everything! As far as being hungry, it's going to take a bit of time (some more than others), but pretty soon, you're going to experience a "calm and peace" and FULL feeling that "3 squares a day or more" could never give you.
What I did and do is fill up on water throughout the day, and also various green teas, oolong teas, and herbal teas that are no calorie. I used to be a coffee and cream fiend, and since starting OMAD 66 days about, I haven't had one cup nor desire it at all. I've never been a tea drinker, but now herbal and green teas are my favorite!

I'm so GLAD you're here, I'm so looking forward to hearing how the pounds and inches are melting and flying off of you in time!1 -
I am also transitioning from IF to OMAD. It's been hard with my work and so much food being thrust at me every day. Today was the first day in ages that I said "No Thanks" and the world didn't stop turning. I like the way that I feel when I fast from 5.00pm until 4.30pm the next day. Today was a case in point. Very stable energy, no hunger. Keep logging and posting. Good luck.1

Hi! Thank you! Yes, I just have to remember it's okay to be hungry and remember why I'm doing this. I do fill up on water, teas and coffee.
Thank you, yes, I've watched some of Joe's videos and need to watch the rest. Appreciate the support!WhovianFitNHealthy wrote: »Thanks! I'm glad to know others are on a similar route as me. That can be hard at work with food there, I also have work food that I have to avoid but it actually is beneficial because half of more is junk.
Great job! I do pretty much the same schedule, sometimes later like today and yesterday I ate around 6-7pm. Thanks for your support and best to you too!I am also transitioning from IF to OMAD. Update: today and yesterday were both successful days. I did get hungry a few times but then I was okay and had a good amount of energy. Today I felt really great and even went for a 20 minute walk before eating at the end of my fast. I have been eating out so some of the calories are guessed but I'm pretty good with knowing serving sizes and logged accordingly. Either way, eating one meal out compared to eating that PLUS eating even one other meal would put me way over, so, I don't feel like I'm overrating at all and can't even eat as much as I think I can or want to.
I'm finally adding exercise in after a long time of no intentional exercise. I really want to go and lift weights (nothing heavy) but so far haven't felt ready. Until then I'm making sure I walk more and am doing a squat challenge for this month which is just body weight squats. It feels good to move more again.
This weekend will be a test because last weekend is when I went out with a friend and messed up then the next day too. But I'm really exercising my self control and discipline. There are leftovers in the fridge right now that I would love to devour and eat all of them but I'm going to wait and eat then tomorrow when it's time to eat. This way of eating is saving me in many ways and will be weighing myself tomorrow possibly or Sunday.
So far so good!1
