How do you replace OJ in the morning?

I know, seems like dumb question from a ketophile.....
My spousal unit is slowly reducing her carb consumption (3 cheers). She has managed to dump those gross carb-bomb "protein" bars in favor of Raw Rev GLO, and to adopt a few other painless substitutions.
However, she asked me what she was supposed to drink in place of her standard morning OJ pick-me-up when she has to work mornings, and I had no answer.
She's a total night owl and stumbles around like a zombie when she gets up early. She has a touchy stomach when it's empty, so a coffee drink is not an option, nor is breakfast until she's been up for a while. And a walk around the block is right out when she's in zombie-mode.
I'm stumped. Any suggestions?

Tea with heavy cream could be one - I just picked up this from Teavana yesterday to make a passion iced tea with. I sweeten it with sugar free vanilla syrup and top it with heavy cream. They do have orange flavors and mango flavors, depending on what she likes. She can make it the night before, keep it in the fridge then pour it over ice in the morning.1

I happen to love orange flavored selzer water. That might work as the fizziness is peppy in the am. They also make grapefruit flavors. No calories, no carbs, no sweeteners.
If she's used to sweet (and drinking OJ that's likely) you can do what I did to wean me off my drink of choice - limeaid - by mixing the OJ half/half with the orange seltzer and slowly changing the percents till you weed the OJ out completely. I love this stuff now. I get all the different flavors.

If tea is not an option, how about those mio/crystal light 0 calorie squirt flavorings for water?1

Maybe a glass of water with a healthy squirt of Dasani Drops 0 carbs, they come in many flavours and I know I can make a glass of water (with a good shot of it) taste exactly like a lemonade. It wouldn't give her any nutritious value but she would have something in her tummy to hold her until coffee time. ?1

Iced orange flavoured tea0

How low is she lowering her carbs? I used to sometimes get Trop50 which is a mix of real orange juice and stevia. It still has 13 carbs per 8oz. but it's half the carbs of regular OJ!1

I have squirt water flavorings by Stir that come in a variety of flavors, citrus being one of them. I wouldn't say it tastes anything like orange juice but maybe closer to orange soda. Be careful though, most of these brands use Sucralose. Stir uses Stevia and Crystal Light has a product line called Pure that uses Stevia. Sucralose may cause an insulin response.
You can also look into Bai5 flavored waters. I haven't seen an orange flavor but they have a peach flavor that would get you pretty close.
And, OP, if your wife is looking for something to perk her up, why not bulletproof coffee or black coffee?2 -
I've replaced it with my salty *kitten* water. The vinegar gives me the lovely acidic bite.1

Thanks, folks! Keep 'em coming - could be a protracted experiment.2

The subject does like kittens.... Pray tell, what type of *kitten* specifically did you have in mind?

They do have lower sugar orange juice, or you could fresh squeeze. Depends how low carb she wants to go.1

We bought a soda stream and so I'll have a bubbly water with my breakfast. It's my special drink and I don't feel like I'm missing out when the kids are having their juice. Bubbly water is where its at3

Slowly lower the actual amount of orange juice in the glass by mixing it with a bit of very cold water (as her palate for sweet changes she may even be fine with 1/3 juice and 2/3 water after a couple weeks) - lowers sugar carbs without adding any chemical/frankenfood ingredients (if that's a concern of hers).
Kinda like quitting smoking with lower and lower nicotine cigarettes or fewer in a day.
worked for my mom who has dementia and is borderline diabetic.3 -
Zipfizz comes in several different flavors two of which are Orange Soda and Orange Cream. I like the Orange Cream flavor better than the Orange Soda flavor. Each tube of zipfizz is 2 carbs and should be mixed with 16-22 ounces of water. I myself tend to like either 16 or 18 ounces of water as 22 ounces of water just makes the flavor a little to weak and washed out. What about other diet fruit juices? Does she like diet cranberry juice or is it specifically the flavor of orange she wants and is looking for? If other juice is acceptable, Ocean spray offers quite a line of diet cran-juice variations that are only 2 carbs per 8 ounce serving.2

I think it's the combo of sugar jolt plus a few decades of OJ habit/ritual that does it.
My thought is to try these ideas out one at a time and see what grabs her. Of course, since they're low-carb, I might actually call on my inner guinea pig and try 'em first myself.....

Zipfizz does contain caffeine which as far as I'm concerned is a good thing. lol I also like the diet-cranberry juices too...I usually have a least one zippfizz and one serving of diet juice every day.2

Gradually dilute OJ with sparkling water. 10%, 20% etc. Then graduate to only sparkling with some slices of orange for the taste. Reduce amount over time. Graduate to lemons or berries. If you do it slowly and deviously, maybe she won't protest so much
Edit: In the start I used to put some frozen berries in a big jug of water overnight. Turns out all pink and lovely. Now I don't bother anymore and drink plain water, hehe. I used to be a big OJ drinker.2
