Successes

I am 9 days into LCHF eating. It's going pretty well. My number one success for today was learning how great&easy egg drop soup is! Second is that I brought a handful of macadamia nuts in lieu of my usual popcorn habit.
I do have one question. How much of a problem is it for me to have an occasional diet soda?

I've had diet soda throughout a year of losing and 2.5 years of maintenance. It doesn't seem to effect on me regarding weight. Caffeine free Diet Pepsi has always been my go to. I've recently switched to seltzer water with a little stevia sweetened water enhancer so still a diet soda in my mind.

I think it's a very individual thing... a particular body and metabolism will react differently to soda or sweetners or vegetables, for that matter. Mainly, just listen to your body's reactions. Example, does it give you bloat or spike your blood glucose? Make you crave sweets? Just see how it affects you and your objectives in eating LCHF.

I drink a few Diet Coke or diet root beer a day. It doesn't seem to produce cravings for anything sweet and the carbonation keeps me feeling fuller actually. It's working out ok for me and I'm still losing!0

I still drink diet soda - usually a couple cans a day but maybe more on the weekends and have still lost steadily. I've thought about trying to cut it out but it is like my sweet treat at the end of the day.1

I drink diet soda as well. I try to keep it down but some days I may have 4 or more - like on these Saturdays that Anna has all day band competitions- I tend to drink "whatever I want" which is usually diet soda all day. I tend to feel a little under the weather after a day like that so I don't recommend that as your only source of liquid, but I don't have any adverse effects from having one now and then.1

I have not given up my diet pepsi and don't plan to. I don't react to artificial sweeteners like some people do.1

^^^^^This. And the different sweeteners can effect it too. I do great with liquid stevia, but other sugar replacements can cause issues for me. I can drink Canada Dry diet ginger ale occassionally and not have any ill effect.
We all react differently. So try a few days with the diet soda and a few without and notice how it effects your hunger level, your energy, etc.1 -
This is a definite case of YMMV. I had to give up my diet Dr Pepper because it was spiking my BG as much as the regular was. Since I adopted this WOE primarily for BG control. Others, like several people who have already responded, have no negative reactions to artificial sweeteners.
The other thing negatives I have heard are that, for some, having the artificial sweeteners can cause a craving for more sweets which can make it easier to fall off the wagon and have one of those donuts someone brought to work to share with everyone.
BTW, had a health fair at work today and fasting BG was 82 which is well within normal. Given my last A1c 2 months ago was 6.2 and the fasting BG was 115, this is a significant improvement. Waiting for my next dr appt in November to see how A1c is doing.3 -

We are Pepsi people here too...I just today tried Pepsi 0 instead of Diet Pepsi! It's a game changer for me....tastes less sweet and I'm really liking it.1
