Hello friends, I started this way of eating on Monday. How do I know I'm in ketosis without Keto sticks. Thanks

Keto sticks will only tell you if you are peeing ketones out... you ideally want to be burning them so just Keto-on and you will get there. Most people do get into ketosis in 3 days or so, but if your body is quite broken it could take up to a couple weeks.3

Some typical clues are
Significantly reduced hunger
Mental clarity/energy
Urinating slightly more frequently (maybe)
Possibly a fruity and acetone scented breath3 -
Thanks @canadjineh and @Sunny_Bunny_ . I don't think I'm in ketosis cos I wake up hungry and still feel drained. Should I up my fat to get into ketosis faster? What can I do to get into ketosis. Thanks0

@canadjineh interesting read. Thanks so much0

As far as I've read on here... There's a high chance of you being in ketosis when you consume 20g or less net carbs.
Very welcome to our group by the way!2 -
I don't have anything to add to your question, but welcome aboard!!

Eating more fat isn't what does it. It's reducing insulin by reducing available glucose enough.
It'll happen. Not really any reason to rush it. But exercise would help if you wanted to.5 -
Welcome aboard! I just started last week as well. One of my co-workers has been on keto for months with great success. What he has been doing is watching his macros 75%fat 20%protein 5%carbs. I have been sticking to those macros and it has been working so far. I have also been adding fasted cardio every other morning to assist with getting my body used to using fat for energy. After a few weeks I may try the sticks, or get a blood monitor, I believe they make some that check for ketones as well as sugar levels!0

nicee247 - I've been doing this about a week now. I have no idea if I'm in ketosis or not either. I'm still figuring out where all those sneaky carbs come from! I'm usually under 25g net carbs though. Had no idea my medicine had carbs! SO not fair LOL
Anyway my weigh in is on Fridays so today when I checked I'd lost 5lbs in a week. So I am guessing that is the water weight loss that I've read about.
Other things of note - I can get a little headache in the afternoon. I'm using buoillon cubes for that and once a day when I start feeling like that, it seems to kick it to the curb. I have to watch my sodium because I have HBP so I can't take a lot of that stuff. The hubby says my breath is not bad but it's different. More sweet than anything. (Can I take that as a compliment?)
Hope this helps a little
OH! Afterthought I thought might help you. Hubby wanted pizza tonight so I cooked one for him. It looked delicious! But I didn't want it! And I was/am a pizza junkie. I'm overall feeling pretty darned good and never hungry on this.8 -
Continue logging all of your food. If you're eating 20g or less of carbs, you're fine. Some medicines and vitamins have hidden sugar so be careful (liquid nyquil, cough syrups, cough drops, gummy vitamins).
Here is a great FAQ:

Welcome! I have been experimenting with the keto sticks, and the moment my appetite drops I am in ketosis. I can literally feel it now.4

Thanks so much friends. I eat less than 20g of carbs. I guess I'll just enjoy my weight loss till I get into fat burning mode. I'll take my time to go through all the resources sent to me. I really appreciate your effort guys.
Another question please . How do I handle being
committed to this lifestyle. I have to cook for my hubby and children and it's really been difficult. Thanks0 -
I guess I have it easy. Husband and I don't generally eat breakfast/lunch together. Some days one of us will make bacon and eggs. He eats toast, I don't.
Dinner, I just cook the way I always have. Meat and vegetable. Add rice/tater for him. I roasted a chicken the other night and made him homemade mashed potatoes/gravy. I didn't have either. I like to cook and have the time.
If we feel like a pasta dish, I skip the noodles. The other night I made spaghet and had my sauce and meatballs over zoodles (spirilized zucchini). Sometimes spaghetti squash or sometimes spinach. With alfredo, I'll do the same.
He has 2 things in the house that used to tempt me: peanut butter (wouldn't be bad if I had control of overeating it) and ice cream. I just don't eat them....
Eat keto long enough and the hunger and cravings tend to go away.6 -

@RalfLott ... just in case you didn't see this request above.1

Before my SO went low carb I would serve him low carb meals But he'd also get bread with soup, mash when needed, rice if he wanted it and pasta, I'd have zucchini noodles instead. I would just stay clear of the extra carbs. We'd both have veg with butter, salads, lots of meat and fish. After a while saying no to the carbs got easier and easier apart from ICECREAM!!! I cannot say no to ice cream. But now my portions are so much smaller. I can do with a few spoonfuls instead of bowls.1
