Staying LCHF while in Shanghai HOW?

I am in China for 12 days and started off great with LCHF but after my bday Oct 10, with a wonderful vegan dinner all was fried with so many veggies I couldn't even find things in MFP...logging impossible.
Do I just throw in the LCHF towel during my trip? Start new when I get back?
Feeling very bloated and tired after bday dinner and carb craving returned! Ugggg
Any advice?

So are you vegan?
I was going to suggest to just try as much as possible to eat meats and veggies and only eat rice and such when you literally have no other options. That way it would still be a solid effort at keeping carbs and bloating and ickies down as much as possible.
As far as sweet and things with sugar and fruits... those are all optional foods anyway you look at it. If you're someplace special and have an opportunity to try things you don't normally get to have... it's up to you to decide if you're ok with going off plan for either that item or the whole day/trip. It's ok if you make that decision. You just have to get it straight in your head now so that you don't feel remorse about it later. Will it create weight gain. Pretty much no doubt it will. Is that ok? Sure. What's not ok is beating yourself up about it when you get back home.
But you can allow off plan eating on a small scale too without going completely overboard if you think that will help you in the long run. That's probably how I would approach it personally.
I would probably have the remorse if I went completely crazy, but not if I was trying to experience new foods within reason for myself.
Best of luck to you and safe travels!1 -

Thank you so much Sunny. You are very insightful to how I would be thinking in my head! While here I am trying my best to stick to the tofu and veggies however most is stir fried or fried! Still not great but that's my only option for the trip. Raw food I was told to be carful (such as salads) bc of the water they wash it in. I am feeling bloated already! I guess it is what it is and I won't be going crazy and go completely off track but try and make low carb (or what I think and hope is low carb) as much as possible. Eating a bowl or sautéed cauliflower and walnuts isn't a meal either. I will gain weight that's for sure. I will be unhappy but hey what can I do I am not traveling alone and don't want to make others uncomfortable either.
This is tough. Very tough. Maintaining to workout though and lots of walking but nothing beats that shorty feeling of high carbs!!! YUCK!!! Good learning experience though.
Pants are already tight and only on day 3!0 -
I wonder if taking a diuretic while you're there might help. ??? Just a thought. Not sure if it's sound advice or not. I would think cutting back on sodium since you're eating more carbs than normal is a good idea though. Probably0

Sounds interesting . Issue to consider is where to find a washroom when in and about?? Hmmmmm. Cutting back on sodium may be hard given a lot of soya sauce! Lol. I guess if you live here you would be able to maneouver but being a visitor is tough. If I was in US would be super easy. Here I try and tell them even with translation they sometimes get it other times nope. They told be it was steamed vegetable dumpling well...I ate pork! Then it was supposed to be preservered vegetables.....it was string shredded pork again!!! Loaded with sodium! Thought I was low carbing with higher sodium was good. Was fooled!
Oh well. I will try without making myself nuts so I can enjoy the trip and others won't roll their eyes at me LOL0 -
Yeah, I didn't think of those challenges. Lol
Sometimes we just have to do the best we can.
At least you know how to deal with it when you're back home. That's more than the majority of the population can say!1 -

Yup ...knowing what to do when I get home. It's like a few steps forward and the the trip albeit great setting me back!
That's life I guess. Learning and going with the flow. Thank you for your awesome insights and advice.
