I have been on keto since August second and seeing great success on the scale. (139.5 to 125.4, I'm 5'3") I haven't weighed this little since I was probably 13 or 14 years old. That being said, over the last week and a half I have "puffed up" My abdominal area feels like its sticking out, and is very uncomfortable. I haven't changed anything about my diet or exercise regimen.
Has anyone had a similar experience?/ Any advice on how to combat this?
Thanks!

Are you retaining water? Or gas?
Excess fibre can increase gas in your belly and cause you to puff up. There are some yoga poses you can do to help relieve gas. One of them is literally called wind-relieving pose. You lay on your back and pull your knee to your chest with your leg bent. Hold for 30 seconds and repeat on other side.
What about increased sodium? If you increased sodium but did not balance it with water, you could be puffy from that.0 -
All good ideas! I have been trying to increase my water intake, and I don't think sodium would have increased much if at all.
I do go to yoga every week, and actually have class tonight! Maybe that will help.
I'm not sure on the excess fiber front. I will go back and take a look at my reports. Thanks!0 -
What also works to get the internals in order is to lay on your back with knees bent or legs straight out (whatever is comfortable), make two fists and put thumb sides together (side by side), lightly press your line of knuckles into your lower belly just above the pubis, slightly dig in as you drag your intestines up into place, drawing your fists up toward your navel. Don't go higher than your navel, no need. Gravity causes our intestines to drag down and hang on our internal 'ligaments' and sometimes can trap gas and intestinal contents besides making our bellies pooch out (not a scientific term lol ).
After doing this you will find that you appear slimmer and your intestines will work better. This is especially good if you have problems with constipation.
Here's a heavy duty explanation of the peritoneal cavity and what goes on inside it: med.umich.edu/lrc/coursepages/m1/anatomy2010/html/gastrointestinal_system/peritoneum_ans.html1 -
The only time I puffed up was after adding Splenda sweetened coffee syrup into my woe. Fit my macros, but my body hated it! Created inflammation for me. Didn't improve until I eliminated the Splenda.
Good luck with finding the resolution for you!0 -
As a celiac, I used to experience that a lot. Getting so bloated that it hurt to stand up straight. For me, it was food senistivities. Gluten did it, and so did dairy. I also discovered that apples and pears do that too me too, and a raw veggies.... I suspect fibre is part of the problem there.0

I messed up Saturday before last and drank a darn beer...only 10 oz beer and lord have I paid for it. Bloating started 3 days later and lasted for over a week. I couldn't believe that a beer did that to me. I even went back and tried to find something else that I did different that may have caused it, but there was nothing. I was so miserable...looked and felt about 7 months prego. Whew...will not make that mistake again!0

I usually reach for kombucha when I have eaten something that made me bloated and miserable, but any probiotic should help clear that out.0

I have never tried kombucha but heard about it on a podcast. Love the probiotics tho!0
