Whats your plan? What are your stats? Height, current weight, age (49, right?)

2 lb a week is doable. More than that is not healthy without a doc's supervision.

Tracking what I eat, abstaining from alcohol and consistently walking the beasts 4-5 miles a day seem to be working quite well for me. I have cut out one of my main "vices" which is energy drinks. I love them. The problem is that even the low carb, no calorie versions trigger my junk food addiction. I tend to stop at gas stations to buy them and always end up with a bag of Funions, Doritos or some type of pickled sausage to go along with them. I have committed to water and black coffee only for the past two weeks. It's been a bit of a struggle, actually harder than limiting my calories. The most important thing is your mindset. You have to want to do this every day and be accountable for everything you choose to stuff into your mouth. I am really trying to change the way I look at food. Food is fuel... not a treat, reward or comfort for my emotional instability!

I agree about the mindset. Nothing is going to work until YOU are ready for it to work.

You will back slide, fall into to old habits. Own it and move on.

Take it steady. Reduce the bad foods - don't cut them out altogether.
Eat regularly, so your body does not go into starvation mode (e.g. every three hours). Take each day as a new start, so if you have bad days, start again. Don't try to average things out over past slips... just do the right thing from now on. Reduce white carbs like bread, pasta and rice and go for the wholegrain versions. Personally, I eat very little bread now and get my carbs from my breakfast porridge. Eat plenty of protein to reduce hunger pangs and feed that lean muscle.

I am 48 and doing Supreme 90 with lots of dog walking, which I found to be very good for keeping you interested. The routine can be done in the morning to set you up for the day. The dog walking (twice a day) means you will always have an enthusiastic partner :-)

Hey, I just started, but not an expert, on Whole30, not a diet but certainly kicked my butt into making better choices. Next is the gym.
