Returning to ketosis after surgery

Hi,
I've just had my varicose veins stripped out a week ago, I carbed up for surgery on the advice of the hospital, I'm recovering well but my cravings are back with a vengeance!
I've searched for advice on when would be the best time to get back to low carb but cannot find a definitive answer, my doctor isn't a fan so I can't ask him.
I just don't want to start piling weight back on but then again I don't want to slow the healing down by depriving my body of essential nutrients.
Thanks for reading

what exactly are carbs supposed to provide you that are going to assist with healing?0

That's my question. Protein is the go to macro for healing and pre surgery. However, to answer your question, in my personal opinion you can start going back now. Just keep your protein up until you are out of the recovery phase.0

tcunbeliever, good question, that's why I asked when would be best to return as I couldn't see what the addition of carbs would do to help, except make me hungry!
RowdsLady, been having some protein shakes to combat the hunger so, yes thanks, I need to get back onto keto, glad to throw the bread in the bin at last1 -
Just be careful with the protein shakes as they really hit the system so quickly they will not really be a good food craving tool. The whey protein turns very quickly to glucose and will spike insulin rather quickly when being inactive from surgery can be detrimental to trying to enter back into Ketosis.0

Oh thanks grafixfrh I'm using diet whey protein which is meant to keep you fuller for longer but I'll bear that in mind, looking forward to bacon and eggs for breakfast tomorrow!0
