...a healthy appetite and a need to manage my diet.

Returning to Oregon for some fun at my real home (not my work home).

I know that for a lot of folks trips can cause disasters. But, others manage to keep it in check.

What are some of your tricks for maintaining your discipline while away from home?

If we are taking a trip via car, then DH and I pack our food scale and our bathroom scale.

And I'm always looking for opportunities for physical activity when I travel. Even if it is just long walks to see the sites.

Glad ya goin' home to Oregon. Where are ya working now (not Saudi Arabia I presume)??

Might be easy at home with home cooking with just a bit of zen mental focus and helping pick out foods for cooking. NW salmon is of course nice as you know and lots of other nice healthy veggies too. For car trip if returning by car I sometimes bring my own homemade food/sandwich at least for the first travel meal too. Not always but is an option.

    Good to see ya Greg!!!

The subject line made me think of this. Random, I know.

Plan for the stuff you really want. I know when I visit my old hometown I'm going out for awesome pizza. With some planning, I can better enjoy that experience because I know that, even if I'm over for the day, the splurging doesn't have to bleed over into the next several days.

I agree with planning for the stuff I really want. I'll often stop at a grocery store during a vacation to stock up on easy healthy breakfast and lunch options for the hotel room so then I know I have room to splurge for dinners out. I also try to stay as active as possible to balance out the alcohol calories :)

my weight loss objective, what I've learned in WW and on GOAD. That should keep me about where I need to be. If it's someplace that has some regional foods I like, I'll also take my best judgement and make informed choices that work for me.

If I have internet connection / cell reception (not a given in my travels), I take whatever gizmo will allow me to sign in here in the morning. It does help to remind me that I'm committed to my own objective of maintaining my weight.

I am working in San Diego these days. That's not a bad thing, since I've spent most of my adult life in that city. Still, I wish I could find a position that let me work from home in Oregon.
