This thread is for GOADies who like to run. New runners, old runners, and even wannabe runners meet here to discuss the joys and challenges of running. Use this space to log your miles, ask questions, share your race reports, or for anything else related to running.

New runners - and even those just thinking about starting out - are always welcome. There's no reason to lurk here. Join the pack and tell us about your running!

Oftentimes the GotR thread will pose a question or raise an issue in order to facilitate the conversation, but this is always an open forum to chat about any running-related topic.

Today's Topic: running fast, running slow. Do you vary your workout paces, or do all runs at the same pace?

Alt: your weekend running plans . . . who's going long? any races planned?

Have a great weekend!

My runs tend to be whatever pace my body feels like doing. Usually slow, slower, or turtle in molasses pace.

25K trail race for me tomorrow at a nearby forest preserve ;-) Weather is going to be perfect.

I ran 4 last evening that, according to my schedule, was supposed to include 2 miles at tempo pace. I wasn't feeling speedy in the least, but did make an effort at one faster-than-jogging mile. It occurred to me that it's been several months since I've done anything faster than simply running as I feel. Speed is a tough thing. Possibly a use-it-or-lose-it?

Overall, though, a really nice run on the bike/hike path with DW alongside on her bike. Lovely evening. Very much still above average temps.

I'll get a 7 miler done tomorrow morning, then I think we're off to Duluth for the balance of the day. Visiting DS-2 at school up there, and getting in a little northshore hiking at the same time.

Didn't do much hiking yesterday. Cold, windy, and dark about an hour earlier than we anticipated. Still, a nice outing. Great to see our college freshman in his natural setting.

7 miles this morning on my favorite near-to-home trails. Talked to some nice ladies on horseback. Beautiful blue sky day here. Probably not many more like this!

Had a nice sunny day for the 25K trail race yesterday. There was also a 50K event going on. Out and back course, the 50K did it twice so you were always seeing people.

I was halfway to the venue when I realized I had left my Garmin in the kitchen on the charger. Sigh. I didn't have enough time to go back and retrieve it. So I just ran & walked by feel. It was odd to not know how long I had been out on the course. I had previously hiked/biked the trail so had a general idea of where I was.

My SI joint started acting up again (same issue I had in my marathon last month) so I ended up walking most of the last 3-4 miles. I knew that trying to run through it would only make it worse. I did finish just under 4 hours which I was fine with. It really was nice to be out in the woods crunching through the fallen leaves that covered most of the trail. Good therapy!

@Calvin2008Brian - one of my friends always says that those of us who finish near the end get more value for our money than the fast ones. I got 4 hours of therapy for the same price that the sub 2 hour finishers got ;-)
