Keto While Abroad

Next year, I'm studying abroad in Germany for 5 months. I don't think I'll have the means to cook as much as I do now, unless I can borrow cookware. I imagine I'll be eating most meals at the mensa. Keto has been the only successful diet for me, and I'm afraid that if I go off it, I will gain weight again. Any advice?

It's been some time since I was in Europe (my husband is willing to travel anywhere in the world with me, as long as he can sleep in his own bed every night.) But I seem to recall Germany as a highly carnivorous kinda place. Stay away from the pastries, dumplings and beer and you should be fine. A plus for weight control: most European cities are pedestrian and bicycle friendly (unlike the U.S. where it's open season on anyone not in an automobile) so you'll probably be much more active just going about your daily routine than at home.1

I'm German and there are so many German foods that go along with the Keto diet. Us Germans really love our sausage and meats that's for sure. Bratwurst, knakwurst, leberwurst. Any "wurst" is probably going to work for you. Also sauerkraut is a great option. I eat it all of the time. Although watch because some of them have more sugar than others. Just stay away from the strudel and schnitzels.1
