Some Advantages of One-Meal-a-Day

The choice to drop the pounds is never an isolated one. It always ends up spilling over into other aspects of our lives, which is why I've compiled this list...

#1) OMAD is wallet-friendly: Once one finds themselves faced with the need to make the big change, it follows that safeguards should be in place lest they ever rethink their decision in moments of weakness. Well, this is one of those things that makes you realize that, if nothing else, saving money from eating once has a profound impact on the wallet. I can testify to this firsthand as the amount of money I saved going from a glutton to smarter eater has saved me at least a few hundred a month.

#2) OMAD works without specialized foods: It's nice to not feel obligated to go out and buy expensive organic food products to boot, which also adds to our first point, but further reinforces how easy this can be. Your body will take what you give it. That is the beauty of adaptation.

#3) OMAD frees up the schedule and creates more productivity: It is no joke that having to stop and eat 3 times a day is time-consuming and drags you down while you wait for your food to digest. When you do that once, it's actually crazy how much more time in a day you find you have.

#4) OMAD gives the body the edge to beat illness: I wouldn't put this in the list lightly, but now that the one-year mark for eating once a day is approaching, I can't keep it out. I have been sick twice this year on OMAD--once from food poisoning (thanks to some uncleaned soda machines at work), and then Christmas where I was coughing for a couple of days. And that was it.

I have always been sick more than average, usually around 6 times a year. Not this time. I've been running strong for nearly a year and I haven't missed much work.

#5) OMAD promotes faster muscle recovery and better workouts: I have never experienced better, more intense workouts than when eating once a day, followed by a hard workout from 10 to 15 hours afterward. My muscles heal faster and I have much more endurance than when I ate 2 or 3 meals a day. All I have to do is increase my calories for a tough day to come and I'm wired after a workout, and not tired.

#6) OMAD helps me focus on socializing: So many talk about how they don't want to eat once a day because they enjoy eating meals with friends and they don't want to feel left out, but this is my argument for why they should instead of their argument not to. By eating once a day (at the most social meal), you can certainly enjoy eating with friends and family, but it is otherwise nice to be able to eat privately and concentrate on the meal. And you can still join whoever else is eating when you are not eating. Just have a water or diet drink and enjoy the conversation. This way, I find that I am more focused on what my friend/family member is saying as opposed to stuffing my face. And I'm not tempted to eat since I know when I eat, and that won't change just because someone else is eating.

I am, of course, omitting the really big advantages of OMAD (breaking psychological addictions, cleaning out stomach contents, leveling out blood sugar, and shrinking the stomach). But these reasons are good in and of themselves to make the change.

I'm benefitting from all of these but the beating illness one. I'm hoping the longer I do this, the better this one would be for me. So far I'm still getting pretty sick with weather change

It definitely is a money saver and a lot easier than other diets to follow.

    Thanks for the list

So much less time cooking and cleaning!

I can't say it's easy for me to eat once a day...in fact sometimes I'm counting minutes til it's my time to eat, but what I can say is that it has enabled me to take off a lot of weight and mostly keep it off. When I reached my goal and stopped eating this way it wasn't long before continuous, disordered eating patterns resurfaced. I tried multiple maintenance strategies and now I find myself back to once a day and feeling like I can undo the damage done and then develop a one meal a day maintenance plan when I get back to my goal.
I just do the best this way and can adjust macros and cals as are appropriate when I get there, but I believe the once a day pattern is truly key for me.
So glad to find this group. It is so unusual and foreign to most people that having this support is awesome and very needed.

Sounds great. You will refine your strategies as time goes by. Remember, an easy way to do OMAD maintenance is to just add in caloric beverages throughout the day.

    Dear Samson
The list you compiled is absolutely stellar :) thank you for that!
I'm starting on the OMAD, and will look at your list for motivation when times get tough. Have you experienced any weight loss here?
