Hi everyone, hope the new year treats us all kindly.

I have started a NEW ME challenge thread, hope you decide to join me there. I have come a long way, but there is a longer path I must continue.

I am hoping for more peace, human kindness, and better relations between the police and the black community especially. I am also hoping that our newly appointed president realizes that he is not still on a reality tv show and learns to be someone who deserves to sit in the oval office.

Hope you all are ready to be the best you can be in this New Year.

I am hoping that the new president does not sell out our social security to private brokers because that terrifies me. I also hope that they do not decrease our medicare. And last, my husband, and thousands of other people, have health problems that insurance companies would never insure. If Obamacare goes, I have no idea what will happen if his health problems worsen and he looses his job. This year is going to need a lot of prayer to get me through it!

Honestly, we can not just hope Medicare doesn't get sold down the river, call your congressional reps and complain that he needs to keep his hands off of Medicare. The Affordable Care Act got gutted by insurance lobbyists, it needs repair, not repeal. We can not just sit on our hands and do nothing.

The reason the NRA is so powerful is because they get members to contact their reps and senators all the time. Other organizations and individuals need to do the same thing. I have a bookmarked page with all the reps and senators, even if you aren't in their district.state the staff has to listen to you :) /rant off?

I don't want to turn this into a political group at all but thought this had to be mentioned, so I'd like to see a change of topic.

Has everyone removed the holiday decorations yet?

I agree with not getting into politics but thanks for the inspiring kick in the pants. I actually will put pushing my elected representatives on my list of things to do for the year.

Took down alll decorations and am in the midst of a massive house cleaning. After all of my sickness, basically all last year, things around here just deteriorated! I am coming to the end of the cleaning binge and today will spend the day cleaning my art studio, which I had actually been looking forward to getting done! This will be a day that burns some calories just with cleaning! lol

Well the small dusting of snow, only about 2 ins., that none of the forecasters saw made it look like winter again. More is on the way tomorrow along with -0F temps for the next few nights.

I will be doing workouts at home this week because the city fitness centers are having a week free, so you can try before you buy. Nice for anyone thinking about it, but if you have membership, it just means crowded classes this week. So I'm not going out to work out in a crowded room when I have a spot at home I can utilize so well.

Today is grocery day so I am going to try to do some menu planning. Maybe if I do that I can do some journaling in advance and whip this problem I have with not completing the day!

This weather has really gotten to me. I realized I have not logged foods for two days, YIKES. I am back at this morning and will be sure to check the computer at the end of the day and send up my food logging.

I have been escaping into my Kindle. I am about half way through a John Cleese book about his life. He is so funny and is one of my favorite comedic actors. I also read a bio of Dorothy Parker, she lived a few miles away from my home for a while, I had no idea. She is still one of the best women writers ever.

Welcome back Nancy. It is better to keep coming back until you reach your goal than to just chuck it all in, that is why MFP is so valuable to me :)

Some of the Colorado ski resorts closed yesterday due to too heavy snow. They already were at over 125% snow base for the season before this last round of storms. Down here on the Front Range, it has warmed to the mid 40s and mid 50s for the last few days, the Chinook wind has eaten most of the snow around here as well.

Happy New Year friends, I am back after a long absence. I have not been doing well with my plan over the past year, so 2017 has to be different. So glad to see so many of my friends are still on board here! ~ Kathy

Good to see you posting again, Kathy. Only the ones who don't get back on plan lose out. The one's who keep getting back on plan, will eventually reach their goals.

I want the old me back - the one who cared about her health and didn't overeat. She didn't sit all day at her computer or in front of the TV either. This will be my commitment to myself. Just do it. Again.

Soooooooo, this year has been so very awful in someways, Jan 20th for example. But in others, there has been enough decent weather that with a little rugging up, I have been able to walk some hills and up my daily average of steps.

My sister who just got out the hospital for colon cancer surgery, now has to go back for a tumor growing on her foot. She is barely able to walk. I can not believe all her bad luck recently, she had breast cancer by in 2006. She was just starting to make a dent in her current medical bills. So I just gave her the money to pay off the new surgery, at least it is outpatient and no over night hospital charges.

Life is really a merry-go-round for me right now.

I hope others are having a good year.

So sorry to hear about your sister's medical challenges, Joell - so glad to hear you are in a position to help her financially. That must increase her peace of mind quite a bit!

This year so far, I am trying to find a little more time to take care of myself in spite of the ongoing onslaught of responsibilities. Just the everyday maintenance of a busy life, including still working full time - plus taking care of my elderly father's affairs... well, I am just grateful that he lives in assisted living so I don't also have to literally care for him 24/7. I wouldn't make it. I am trying to cut down on the trips I make to be involved in his care. We'll see if anything changes this year as a result. He lives 3½ hours away and for the past two years I have been there an average of every other week. I really need to cut down on that somehow.

Also, I am taking however small amount of time it may be in the morning to pray and/or meditate and do a little inspirational reading so I can get my day off to a positive start. Every day I am filing, cleaning and tossing so eventually we can have all of our ducks in a row here at home. I have done some exercise most days in the new year, but it is nowhere near enough. Still, it is the best I can do.

I have a stove in which the hood is non-functional: no lights, no fan; the oven works and two of the four burners work fairly reliably. A third burner can be coaxed to work with the appropriate jiggling. Yes, we need a new stove and we do have the money to buy it but ... where am I going to find time to go shop for a stove? We have to do it, soon. I can't stand this situation much longer.

So I am chipping away this new year, trying to make small positive changes so that I don't just sit in the paralysis of feeling overwhelmed. Just feeling that I am making some progress is keeping me going. This week when I put on a favorite pair of pants, they felt just a bit less tight. I think I may have lost a little bit of the weight I had put back on. I have been afraid to get on the scale but, that feeling of the pants fitting better was a boost.

Kathy, "best is best" is one of my favorite lines from MASH, the tv version. Good that you see the need to take care of yourself, you will be more able to care for others when you do that.

Hope you can carve out time to get a good stove you will enjoy using. NSV are important too, I love it when I can slip into a smaller blouse or pair of pants.

I am lucky my sisters share the major caregiving duties for our mom who is now in a nursing home. She will be 85 next week. One of my sisters works at the facility and the other is only a half hr. away and takes her out to eat and do any shopping she needs. She has lost about 90 lbs. so she does need new clothes as the seasons change.
