It is January, 2017, and time to start a new monthly challenge! The first one for 2017! So lets make January an awesome month, the beginning of a brand new year, so many possibilities !
Crisp and cold and even snowy weather is definitely here for many of us depending where we live. This group is open to any and all walkers. However you get your walk in, come on in and join us! Post your miles or minutes that you have walked, however you did it... it is all good!
Set your personal goal for how many miles or minutes that you want to walk, indoors or out, this month. This is your own personal goal . Post your results daily, weekly, or whenever you like. It is such an encouragement to read each others' posts.
If you find this challenge in the middle of the month it doesn't matter which day of the month that you join in. Just set your goals to reflect what you want to walk for the remaining days in the month. You are always welcome !
So, if you are new to the group please feel free to start today so that by the end of the month you will be that much closer to your health goals. It is never too late to join in
Tie up those walking shoes and get some water, and let's start walking !

Hi Lilymay! Thanks for keeping this going!!
I'm starting 2017 out with a recommittment to myself. The end of 2016 was crazy rough for me, but it's time to suck it up.
I don't have a miles number that I want to reach for January. But here are my goals: sticking with it!! This group was such a blessing to me in the beginning and I looked forward to checking it and seeing what everyone else was up to also. I've got to get back to that.
I joined Advocare and am going to be doing their 24 day all in challenge, so my January focus is on getting back into a routine and focus on my eating. Just over the last few days being off work, I'm waking up without an alarm at 5 AM. A perfect time to get a workout in. I haven't been, but I need to remember that this year is about ME and my health!!
Long term goal - I miss doing the 5K's and halfs. And doing them successfully. One of my friends and I have made a goal to do the 1/2 marathon in Vegas in November. I've wanted to do it for a while, but this is the year!!!
Again, thanks to you all for keeping this going and happy walking!1 -
I'm back!
My goals for January:
1. Walk or hike 30 miles intentionally. This means not random steps throughout the day, but true walks or hikes outside (hopefully) with my family.
2. Hit my 7k daily step goal 23 of 31 days (75%). This should help keep up my general mileage.
1/1 1.3 mile walk, step goal hit!1 -

Yes, pretty ambitious I know. I have resources gathering dust.

- I have hand weights gathering dust.
- I have wrist weights that I wear when I walk
- I have a book on stretching, a book on walking off weight and a TOPS chapter to all draw on.
Balance: physically and mentally - I really want to take Yoga. I am going to research a beginner class close to home.
Jan 1 - 3.22 miles - nice walk outside.

Hi all. I've spent the last week focusing on my eating and am doing really well with the Advocare Challenge. I'm still logging here, actually more so that I had been, and am staying below my calories!! I can't believe it.
My fitbit has been giving me some issues, but I think it's pretty accurate. I haven't been doing much walking, staying in the house and working on the food prep and keeping myself in check. I ventured out for the first time this weekend and did alright. Here are the step numbers:
1 -1.73
2 - 2.13
3 - 1.17
4 - .66
5 - 1.94
6 - 1.19
7 - 2.05
8 -1.61
Total - 12.480 -
mlh it helps to focus in on our food, I think sometimes I get too complacent and then everything goes to hell in a handbasket. It is good to see you here and know you are doing okay.0

Why did I pick the wettest months to try and get 30 miles of walks?!? Rained all weekend and we were under flash flood warnings. Yesterday's walk got cut short when the rain picked up. Maybe gps will pick up a walk inside my office?0 -
