Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day?
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank?

In 2004-2005, we lived for one full year in Costa Rica, Central America. We lived up in the mountains surrounded by coffee plantations and sugar cane. We lived with a host couple who only spoke Spanish. (unless the word "OK" counts as English). We picked up that couple, the Tortos, last night at O'Hare airport.
See below for an idea what they are now experiencing.

Oy they will freeze their butts off. I don't think anyone is prepared for winter.2

. I am thinking a lot about you these days Rick. I hope that doesn't sound too weird. I didn't get to take care of my mom. She lived six hours away from me. My dad did a good job though. He was like Super Provider. I like to think that I did a better job of taking care of him. But the reality is that he took so good of care of us kids that really he is even taking care of us posthumously.
. So my debt to Karma is, I never had kids, so I still got to take care of some kids. I don't know how my wife persuaded me of that. She got me some little buddies. They are slightly broken, but that don't mean that I can't give them the best childhood that I can imagine for them. That don't mean me giving money. That's easy enough. That means me giving me.
. I finally got that message from my parents. I went an seen my little buddies today. My favorite, I call him Buddy on the internet. I am teaching him how to eat with a spoon, you know, in case we end up in Paris France someday. That is what I tell him. So Buddy, get this, I got him eating peanut butter sandwich with a spoon. Hey school is school what can I say. Ain't no wadding our food into a ball and stuffing it into our mouths. Not at school anyway.
. Buddy happily tries his best for me because he knows we are going outside afterwards. That little guy intuitively knows that I am a climber. He loves climbing too. He climbs them ramps and looks at me and smiles. We are two peas in a pod. That little guy. I could tell little guy stories for days on end.
Oh, wait. I digress. I weighed in this morning. I am down those pounds I gained over feast season. Actually I accomplished a new relative minimum. That will go to my head and I will binge out a little bit. But they ain't nothing to eat around here but pitas and salmon. Diet starts in the grocery store. There ain't no potato chips.

I still felt sick today, so I didn't finish my run at the gym. Later, I began to feel better again and took my dog for a walk. It was only -1*F, but we had a good time. My legs have been sore from my workouts the last few days, so the cold air acted like an ice pack haha. I find myself wishing for summer, but I plan on looking great on a swimsuit this year, so I am happy to have time to work on that. In the meantime, I'm making the most of our frigid weather4 -
Exercise? Yes! 45 minutes of aerobic video here at home and 15 minutes of exercise bike here at home
Calories? Yes! Even though hubbie is in kitchen cooking up a wicked batch of italian sausage and peppers I have resisted! I've already had supper and so that would just be appetite eating not actual fuel or need.
Tracked? Yes!3 -
Praying for your mom and all those love her dearly. Hope your friends, the Tortos, are okay with the freezinf cold weather and enjoy their visit!
I walked 20 minutes before going to bed, since it's after midnight, so yes for exercise.
Logged everything and stayed within the limit, so yes for the last two questions.3 -

@Luckee_me Thanks so much!
@bocasdelbob I so appreciate your sharing and the way you live a life of caring.
@hkaccompanist The Costa Ricans are very uncomfortable with the cold, despite wearing our coats. In more important news, all of your prayers and concerns are working...Mom got great news from the hematologist/oncologist= no cancer.

Rick- that is wonderful news!! Beautiful pics. My hubby and I lived in Brazil a bit before we had kids. Treated sick people along the Amazon in northern Brazil and saw amazing people, diseases, monkeys, and sites.

Pass day 1
Horrible day! Besides having an emotional day, my sister's car battery died (at her apartment, fortunately). I tried jumping it myself (first time every trying that) and just got the clicking noise. Later that evening (remember temps were FRIGID) hubby (aka John) tried with his work truck. He couldn't get in to my sister's car because I put her keys in there for him, and he accidentally locked them in there. :-( My sister couldn't find her spare keys (later on she did). After quite a while of trying (and sitting in his truck to warm up), John was finally able to rig something to unlock her door. We started it, and it worked fine! After 10 minutes we shut it off and waited a minute, and then restarted it, and it was dead again! So she needs a new battery. As if that wasn't bad enough, John went to his work truck to get in, and the door was locked with the engine running!!!! We were close to his place of work to get his replacement key, but when he tried it, it was the wrong key! So....he called the guy he was working with who had an extra remote for his truck, and he came and unlocked it. Meanwhile, John was worried he'd run out of gas because it was almost on empty, so he immediately drove across the street to put gas in. What a day!!!!!0
