43 yr old here, did really well for about a year, lost 60 lbs but gained back 20 over the last few months after going through a stressful time. Definitely seeking motivation and accountability..3

I'm 44 and I also find it difficult to lose weight. I'm trying really hard not to focus on the scale and more on my measurements and how I look. I have a goal size in mind but not a weight. Feel free to add me.2

November 14th I turned 40. I gained weight after my divorce several years ago. I had always been fit and healthy and once I got divorced things went down hill. I can't seem to get out of my funk. Although I am in a wonderful relationship all the changes that came with the divorce still haunt me.2

I spent my 20's and 30's overweight (though as pointed out by my Dr. very consistently overweight ) I didn't start trying to lose weight until I was about 43, I hadn't done that since my early 20's. I am not sure if I found it harder or not, I realized I was smarter about it than before. When you are young it might seem like it melts off but I know for me I did some really stupid things that would never work today - you with a real life and all, kid, job, etc.
I have managed to keep most of the weight off (gained 10 pounds last year), but since turning 48 . . . the game changed once again. My body has changed and I have fat in areas that were never a problem before. One of my goals this year is to have less body issues, I think at some point we have to focus on other things like strength or endurance and hope the body gets in line with our goals. I know that each persons age of non-body compliance will be different from the next and just like all the other phases we go through it takes time for our mind and body to sync - think of it as different, not harder.

Hello, just started again. I had baby number 6 and my body is not too happy about it. I am still bleeding (sorry TMI) after 11 weeks. I have lost most of the weight about 8lbs to lose but my belly looks horrible. I am using this app plus the help of my sister the fitness freak to get back into the shape I was prebaby. I was a weight that I liked and looking how I liked after 6 months of beachbody. Now I am just doing PIYO and hoping to hit the gym as soon as I find a babysitter.1

I started again the first of the year and I'm two weeks in, not bad, but yesterday was a rough day... I had 3 sleeves of Ritz crackers. I mean, the buttery taste gets me every. single. time. Anyway, I am at my heaviest I have ever been and looking forward to making changes. Looking forward to being part of this group!2

I'm starting and at 45 years old this is intimidating.3

46 here. I've been at this for a couple of years and have made a very nice transition from fat and out of shape to the best shape of my life.8

48 here. Used MFP very successfully a few years ago. Got off track but fortunately maintained my weight. Back at it again. While I wold love to lose five to eight pounds, my real focus is to begin exercising again for overall health. Just spent three weeks with my mother in law. She is super then but totally sedentary. I do not want that to be my retirement years. So, working now to develop a good path for the future. Any additional loss will be a bonus.2

41 yrs Definitely seems harder to lose weight this year. But I feel great about my program and my food the past couple of months. I was at a plateau for about 3 weeks and began intermittent fasting a couple times a week and finally broke that. We can do this!2

I too, am 45 and just restarted this MFP journey recently. Some days I feel like I'll still be plugging away at this when I'm 50.... But I'm going to be 50 at some point anyhow, better to be a healthier 50!!! Cheers3

Hi all! I'm 42 and I have been on and off MFP since 2012. Here I am with a new account and the heaviest I've ever been in my life. I'm really in need of support and motivation. Would love to find some new friends in their 40s to help me along!!1

Hello, 45 here, 46 in a couple of weeks. I am what the experts say is obese. I am working hard to fix this but I have been neglectful and lazy for a long time. Now I must confess that I expect immediate and impressive results to any and all effort I extend. I think that the thing I need to work on most is my state of mind. It took me a long time to get where I am at and it will take me some time to reverse the damage I have done. I will not give up though. Glad to be here with all of you. Happy Monday!2

Ritz are the bomb! I find that I just cant start eating things like that because I lack the willpower to stop. I always say that I am Aimee no cake or Aimee whole cake, nothing in between.0 -
Hi. I'm new to this site. My dr recommended a support group for weight loss. I'm really shy and didn't want to attend meetings. Hopeful that the groups here will help me. I've gained almost 30 pounds over the last year. Emotional eating is my downfall. Would love to find some friends who are motivated and looking for encouragement. Please add me.2

40 and finding it hard to lose weight. I want to get back to myself looking for friends, accoutability, and encouragement...Advice welcome2

Hey all, I am really trying to find a group to associate with. I'm 47. I have done this before when I was 38-39 y.o. I lost quite a bit, 127 pounds, but did gain a lot back, 75. Not all of it, (thank goodness!), but enough to make me think, "what the heck are you thinking?" Injuries and life stresses just wore me down. I want to lose not so much to look better but to be healthier and stronger. Of course positive aesthetic changes are always welcome.
Having a group of friends to keep in touch with that are in a similar situation is so helpful. It helps knowing someone is going to post something about their day I can relate to. Let's face it, even though people in our day to day lives may want to be helpful, those eyes gloss over when you want to celebrate feeling a bone you haven't felt in a while, or achieve an exercise/calorie/insert goal you have been struggling with. One thing I did learn my first time around was it really is important to acknowledge every step achieved along the way.
I really hope this group takes off.2 -

Aimee, it does take time to reverse the damage we have done. That's why it's so helpful and encouraging to acknowledge the small achievements. My first goal I'm setting for myself is to consistently log. So far so good!! Maybe set a small, achievable, stepping stone type goal for yourself?1 -
44 and looking for some "account-a-buddies" to help me on my fitness journey. I've had a few setbacks but determined to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Need all the support that I can get.

Hi all. I'm 47 and am so very determined to get healthy. I work long hours in a high stress job, so I'm here for health, weight loss, and ideas for some stress relief/management. Any advise and help with accountability would be most welcome.2

Hi everyone. I'm 48 and determined to loose weight and get healthy for good this time. I've lost plenty weight over the years but always put it back on again. I tend to head for the biscuit tin when I'm tired or stressed so if anyone has tips on how to conquer emotional eating I'd love to hear from you ......
Good luck to you all!1 -
Hi. I am 42 and want to get healthy. I lost 50 pounds before I had my twins (in my mid 30's) and always put my health second to taking care of my children. I want to lose to lose weight and get healthy for me.1

Hello new friends! 42 years old, single mom of 3 and grandma of 2. I have gained 70 lbs over the last 4 years, putting me into the obese category. I have struggled with weight since I was a teen, fluctuating from 115 lbs to 200+ on more than one occasion. In hindsight, my weight has been a roller-coaster ride, mostly determined by my emotions. Am here now because I know this ride needs to stop for my health and I am the only one that can make that happen. Would certainly appreciate your company along the way.

Easiest AND hardest thing to do but it will work - cut SUGAR! Sugar and refined carbs spur insulin. Insulin causes fat gain/retention. I eat around 2,500 calories but very few processed food. Been losin about a pound a week since December without changing anything else but my refined carbs consumption. Sugar is addictive. You WILL go through withdrawals. But once you get past that 10-20 day period weight will MELT OFF.4

I just cut out sweets last month and have lost 20 lbs. I still eat carbs but I'm slowly trying to reduce/eliminate the refined pasta/rice/bread. I feel so much better- I was addicted to candy and chips. Now I don't even crave them.1

Hi; I'm back again for round 2! I'm 48 and lost 35 lbs in 2011 with MFP. After going thru a devastating divorce, I gained 10 lbs in the last year and am looking to take it back off. It is harder to lose weight in our 40's, but the results are SOOOO worth it. I can't wait to regain my sassy self-esteem and love the way I look and feel in my clothes. I agree with the cutting sugar suggestion...it is the easiest and the hardest solution I've found. I've also found that I need to compensate by increasing my protein intake to help ward off the withdrawals. Hard, because I have a wicked sweet tooth! Anyway, hoping this forum picks up...feel free to add me; I'm looking forward to increasing my activity on MFP and the accountability it provides.2
