I'm here because I really need accountability.
I'm not sure what l-c program I'm on. I'm trying to do a Whole 30/Paleo plan but will I'll probably tweak it as I go along. I basically eat meat, veggies, small amounts of potatoes and fruit.
Right now I am going through chemo for breast cancer. I'm doing well in that the mass is completely gone but I'll be doing a chemo drip for 30 minutes every three weeks for the next year. So it's not as strong as my previous drips. (And I get to keep my hair this time around, well, when it grows back. lol) I did decide to have a mastectomy on one breast in the near future, but my surgeon stated that I should lose some weight because apparently being overnight doesn't help. So here I am. She said to do a low-fat diet but that went way over my head. Me and low-fat do not get along.
I realize I've be dieting for around 30+ years and it just never seems to end. But now that I'm going through this, I am ready. I must be ready if I'm dreaming about having a big o' fresh salad and veggies galore!!! lol And I just salivate when I see a piece of fruit!!! I no longer like chocolate, thanks chemo, because it just tastes nasty anymore. Only thing I can tolerate is chocolate ice cream. It's something about the texture of chocolate that is no longer appealing. I was eating on a bar of chocolate for two weeks and ended up throwing most of it out in...lol Before chemo, I would have scarfed that puppy down!!! And then would have went to my friend and asked her for a piece of her bar! rofl!!! I think she is sad that I no longer like it...
Seems like this will be easier for me to stick to in the long run. I tried to eat carbs in the numerous programs I've been on but they just do not work well with me. As soon as I eat processed carbs, I am tired for the rest of the day. So that is a sign that it's just not for me. I know I won't be 100% perfect but as long as I stay pretty close, I'm good.
As for exercising, I plan on doing what I can, which is walking. I also plan on logging my foods for a few weeks just to make sure I'm not overeating but I want to be able to eat enough to feel satiated and not have to worry about if I'm going overboard. As for logging my weight, I've decided to cut back on that to. In the past, I logged once a month and I think I became to anal with it. So I've decided to log my weight/measurements once every three months. Actually, I would like to get rid of the scale at some point and just go by how lose my clothing get but baby steps! lol I do have to weigh in at the doctors office once every three weeks but I can't control that. But decided to use it to my advantage. It will let me know if the plan is working or not.
Also, I am going to add a pic just as soon as I can find one. Sheesh! I can't believe I can't find one on my computer!

Welcome to the group. I am sorry to hear of your health struggles but I am happy for you that things are looking good. I hope low carb works well for you. Many of us are not on a specific plan. We just do what works.1

Hello Niecey - Nice to meet you! Sorry that you're dealing with cancer. Your great attitude, commitment to changing your diet and exercise will certainly support you in beating it.
I hear you about many years of dieting and not getting along with low fat diets. They failed me miserably, too. And, I know the struggles of chocolate and ice cream only too well. The great thing about this WOE is that I don't crave them in the same way that I used to!
I'm glad you found a picture - you have a beautiful smile!0 -

Welcome! I've found that low carb eating doesn't feel like dieting and that's been the best part! I hope you find it to be satisfying and successful as well.

Thank you all for the welcome!
nvmomketo - the hard part is over and I did pretty well. I expected to lose a ton of weight but the doctor said most people gain...lol I was not to happy about that but I pretty much stayed at the same weight through the chemo.
So today I have been slaving in the kitchen. I did a ton prep work for my program. I don't officially start until 2/01/2017 although, I have be following it my program about 80% of time since I decided to go l-c. Figured I'd better ease in to it.
I absolutely hate cooking so I prep all my meals for me and the family on the weekend. That goes for breakfast and dinner. Lunch for me is leftovers. I cooked some side dishes too. Whew!!! It's been a long day! Tomorrow, I won't have much to do thank goodness!2 -
Congrats on your decision to fight back with food, too...and with your progress in your fight. Sending you the best thoughts for continued recovery.0
