It's weird that I'm landing on even numbers with no tenths. . but I'll take that. I was hoping to be in the 120's by Valentines Day (thus hoping for the tenths), but it is a full pound so I'm happy.
No candy or chocolate for me yesterday! Hubby gave me a nice card, took me out to "Top Golf" for some fun and ONE beer, and cooked dinner for me. I logged everything and was over my calories by 182, but we had a nice day.
Lois, I'm glad you've taken surgery off the table. Did you happen to see the news story (I think it was Monday) that the recommendation by doctors now is strengthening and stretching, yoga, massage, spinal manipulation, acupuncture, stress reduction/management, OTC medications like ibuprofen, naproxen, aspirin (tylenol gave no relief), but NO OPIOIDS. And, to delay invasive procedures. So, the medical community has recognized the problems surrounding surgeons wanting to jump in. (And make some money, I add snarkily).

Sheesh - I did see that article...and I've already been doing all of those things. And it was low back btw....but I still read it and agreed with it. I had therapy yesterday after work and getting some relief today. I've also started on steroids to help with inflammation...I believe that is the source of my pain. Sadly, I have been taking 1/2 of an opiod at bedtime. Muscle relaxer doesn't work. If I don't take the rx...I wake up more times in pain and sleep deprived the next day. I'm really hoping that the prednisone will make the difference in the next few days. Along with the article, that is also why I'm seeing an ortho specialist in neck/back versus just a neck/spine dr. Similar to a podiatrist, they don't look at the foot issues the same as an ortho who specializes in feet. Orthopedics are so focused on keeping you moving and active. Praying for a positive game plan on Monday.
Yeah for no chocolates on V-Day! Same here. I did thank hubby for my new Blaze that he didn't know he bought me last week.hahaha...Costco has them on sale with an additional band for $149 through the 20th. I really like the fit and how it sits on my wrist. And because the lights sit right against my wrist better, I can keep the HR portion on at night (the light would show on the Charge HR and wake me up). we'll see if it makes a difference.
Therapy again tomorrow evening.
OK ladies...another question for you. Are you actively tracking your water intake? My coworker that I'm doing the nutritionist with is having problems with her water intake so I've been looking into a couple of apps to see if they will help. Waterlogged is good as it ties into MFP and FitBit, however, you have to pay the $3.99 for the full app to get the reminders. My Water is another app, the reminders are free, but doesn't tie back to the other apps. Wanted to see if you guys use anything like this?0 -

I know it looks like a loss, but really, I'm just back to where I was week before last! The scale has been quite a trip for me this week. One day, I'm 140 point something, the next day, I'm 143 point something. It feels like a long way back to 130 for me.
Valentine's has become so commercialized we just do cards and every now and then something special. Last year, we had dinner at an old inn with friends. This year, hubby was getting ready to go out of town, so it was cards and some little Dove milk chocolates in the communal candy dish. I had 5 of those for a little less then 200 calories (they're about 38 calories each). Because my walking buddy was available and was really using her long legs to keep us up to speed, I managed to end the day with a net deficit despite the chocolate.
Lois, I'm glad there's some improvement with the back, and don't feel too bad about the half dose of pain reliever. I avoid medications whenever I can, but honestly, I would have lost my mind when I took that fall if they had not given me something for pain for a short time. It did nothing but just almost relieve the pain. It didn't affect my thinking or make me feel good or bad--just kept me from walking the floor. As you all know, my hubby is dealing with neck issues and is going the non-surgical route as long as possible, too. For him, ice does the most. With a few bad days, he manages. He just sent me a text, though, and said that he forgot about the back/forth motion on the train and wishes he had flown to Newark instead of taking Amtrak. It got to his neck!
My walking buddy is going out of town, so I'm solo with activity until next Monday. I have to stay motivated. I would really like to have two walking buddies, but so far, I can't find anyone who wants to walk at the time of day that I can do it. I have a neighbor who occasionally walks with me in the neighborhood when the weather permits--but ladies, she is slow. I end up acting like a puppy--I walk ahead of her and then circle back!
About the water--I don't track my water, but I love water, so I do drink a lot. Call me crazy, but Aquafina tastes different than all the others and I try to keep a lot of it on hand.

Great reduction Sara. Take it for the week and be happy with the changes. We have to learn to be happy with any reduction from week to week. And when the scale moves in the other direction, we need to not get upset with ourselves and focus on what needs to happen for a course correction. That next week may bring us back to where we were, but it is still a progress in the last seven days and we need to embrace it. celebrate the stepping stones.
Look at me, I've been toggling between my weight shifts I can see when we eat out - and even when I make good choices that fit in my plan, usually the sodium is off the charts for me (I don't use salt when cooking - was raised to not use it due to Daddy's heart attacks).
THANK YOU for sharing neck issue resolutions. Ice actually triggers my headaches, but I am using it more and hoping it is a short uncomfy for a longer resolution. We shall see. I'm on day 2 of the steroid so I hope that it will show some relief by Saturday/Sunday. I lost grip and dropped an open bottle of tylenol at work yesterday. So it's not just the pain that has me concerned. I didn't take the paint tab last night (got home late and forgot until it was too late) and was up at 1 in pain so had to take the advil I keep by my bedside. I think I finally went back to sleep about 330.

Good reduction Sarah. Walking buddies are really hard to come by. Hubby will rarely go walk with me, unless it's on a golf course. My sister and I used to go together until she built a new home 30 minutes away, and since then she's had knee replacement and back surgery and only walks on a treadmill. Friends are either tall and walk too fast, short and walk too slow, or working and want to go in the dark. Last night I met my friends for dinner, and we drank two glasses of wine and ate flatbread. My friends take me in the wrong direction, LOL.
I had my trainer this morning for legs, biceps, triceps and core. Tough workout. And, I didn't have my usual energy . . wine interrupts my sleep, and I was awake at 3 and hardly slept after that. I should learn my lesson.
Lois, I'll keep sending healing thoughts your way. I hope the meds and therapy bring steady improvement.
I track water in MFP. It shows up on my Fitbit app dashboard because it's linked to MFP. I try to get 8 - 8 oz servings of water in addition to any coffee or other drinks. Rarely I get more, sometimes I get 6 or 7 glasses. Doesn't your diary have it at the bottom of the page?

With the water app, yes, both MFP and Fitbit have a section to track water intake. What I'm looking for (mainly for my co-worker) is something to buzz and remind to drink water.
Day three on prednisone and I don't want to get too excited, however, I was able to pick up my cup while driving this morning and didn't notice any tweaks or twinges in my arm!! IMPROVEMENT!! When you have that steady pain, and then it's not there, you forget how good it feels, to not feel it. does that make sense?
And Sheesh - my friends are very much like your friends - great for food and drink...not for walking/hiking/working out (except my trainer of course - she's good for BOTH).
Have a great weekend.0 -
Yes, Lois--it makes perfect sense to me. Nerve pain is different. You can't explain it to someone who hasn't experienced it. I'm glad there's some improvement.
I still have days when I can't grip anything with my right hand, too, and there are still times when I'll pick up a spray can and can't spray. I've also had to change the way I deal with pump bottles. I can't use push with my index finger anymore. But I'm learning to just accept the new normal, and the treatments (which included steroids) did get me over the acute phase. Hang in there!
Sheesh, I'm afraid I'm that person who's only available to walk after dark.We do have a federal holiday on Monday, though, and the weather is supposed to be unseasonably warm, so I'm looking forward to getting outside some this weekend--in the daylight!!
At this moment, I have to admit that I'm blinding angry. I know we try to limit talking about off-topic things on this board, but this EPA appointment is just too much. They (the GOP) could not even wait a few days to see those emails! I shudder to think what is going to happen to the environment. Does rage burn calories???1 -
Hi, Ladies. It was unseasonably warm in the metro area yesterday, and how lucky can I get to have this happen on a 3-day weekend? I'm grateful for this extra day because honestly, I need one day of a weekend to recoup from the work week, and one day to do chores and errands, so on 2-day weekends, it's hard to fit in other stuff, like entertaining or doing something that doesn't fit in the "rest" or "chores" categories.
Saturday flew by and I didn't get in a long walk until after dark (LOL), but it was still warm enough to walk with a hoody instead of a coat. In the middle of February, that just ain't right!! Hubby and I walked my hilly outside route that includes what we call "killer hill." And I was reminded that different muscles are needed for that than the ones I use on flat mall floors.
I did manage to stay away from my desk yesterday except for two short spurts to log my food. But just that took longer than I wanted. I'm becoming very frustrated with how slow the food diary can be with all the ads loading.
I logged all but breakfast at 11:30 p.m., and realized that I really need to do what Light used do, i.e., log a meal before I eat it. That might help prevent some of these bad surprises like how a small amount of dried fruit can push me from a deficit to a breakeven point. I made the mistake yesterday of walking into a Trader Joe's when I was hungry, and I came out with dried berries (blueberries, cherries, and strawberries) and a bag of chips--two things I normally would not buy.
Well, the day is getting away from me again. Hope that everyone's weekend is going well.
