OT: Heart Surgery For Tom Dumez

This thread will have four segments:
9:30 AM Sunday: They gave Tom a 2 hour IV of Clot Buster to break-up and dissolve a huge blood clot in his right ventricle & aortic artery and between his heart and lungs. It didn't work at all in those areas, however it did dissolve another large clot in his right calf...
3:39 PM Today: They have decided that open heart surgery is too dangerous for Tom, since his right ventricle has been damaged and is too weak. They have decided to do a heart cath to suck the clot out. But they have to transfer him to a 3rd hospital to do it. They will be moving him to Allegheny General Hospital on the North Side sometime today. Maybe do the heart cath when he gets there or wait until tomorrow. If they have to do more than one heart cath to get it all, they will do subsequent procedures on different days.
5:29 PM Today: They are taking Tom down to the heart cath lab right now to administer the clot buster right on the clot this time. They are hoping that direct contact will surely break up the clots. If this works he will experience immediate relief....
9:56 PM Today: They finished the heart cath at 7:00 pm. They left 2 caths in there, one pointed to his right ventricle & aortic artery, and the other pointed to the rest of the clot between his heart and his lungs. They will feed some clot buster through each cath every hour from 7:00 pm tonight until 7:00 am tomorrow morning. Their hope is that through direct contact of the clot buster with the clot, that the clot would dissolve by morning. Please pray that this procedure is a phenomenal success.... Thank you all for praying.....

Thank you all for the prayers and good thoughts. The doctors are not sure if the procedure worked or not. Tom is still on a huge flow of oxygen, 55 liters, and the caths are still in. He said that they will discharge him in the next 2 or 3 days with 2 oral blood thinners and on oxygen with visiting nurses.....3

The latest procedure does not seem to have worked YET. They are hoping that enough of the clot got "busted" off and oral blood thinners will do the rest of the job in the next few days, weeks, or months. In the meantime Tom is still on 55 liters of oxygen. The lead surgeon said that he didn't know that there could be such a high flow of oxygen. The flow is so great that Tom has trouble swallowing because of the pressure caused by such a high flow...1
