Protein

Most of us are probably not eating enough protein. I was actually surprised when I began logging my food in this app that I am rarely meeting the protein goal - and the target amount is less that I think I should have!!

Women should have 4 - 6 oz protein three times a day, so 12 - 18 oz per day.
1 oz = 7g protein, so 12 x 7 = 84g per day.

Men should have 6 - 8 oz protein three times a day, so 18 - 24 oz per day.
Or 18 x 7 = 126g per day

(I did the math for you, Adam Milnes, since you weren't crazy about drawing a graph and sine wave in the zone post!!

My post got cut off when I put a winky face in! So here's the rest...

Here are some protein items that are equivalent to 1 oz or 7g...
    1 egg
    1 c. Milk
    1/2 - 3/4 c. Yogurt
    1/2 c. Cottage cheese
    1/2 c. Beans
    1/2 c. Tofu
    1 oz cheese (2% preferred)
    1/4 c. Nuts
    2 Tbsp. Peanut butter
    2 Tbsp. Nut butter
    Protein powder - read label

One serving of meat is 3 oz or 21g of protein, which is about the size of a deck of cards or the palm of your hand.

Protein signals our body to go into Fat-Burning mode. Try to eat a little protein every time you eat. Here are some protein ideas in addition to those mentioned above...
    Turkey bacon
    Tuna (packed in water)
Liquid egg substitute or egg whites
    Seafood
    Turkey/chicken sausage
    Tempeh
    Veggie burger

What are some protein powders that people use and like? I specifically am looking for nondairy.
