Let celebrate the non-weight benefits of this WoE!!!

I started this WoE to reverse my fatty liver disease. However, I've noticed some other results that are even more exciting than the weight loss! My skin is less dry! I've dealt with dry skin and severely chapped lips my entire life! Two months into this, my dry skin is healed and my lips are soft and smooth! I've never had smooth soft lips that I can remember! They've always been chapped, cracked, and peeling. Having healthy lips that I can put real lipstick on makes me sooooo happy!
Another result is my lack of IBS and diarrhea! I'm lactose intolerant and was told that I have moderate IBS. I used to have a bought of diarrhea 4-5 times a week at minimum, and extremely painful lacto-attacks whenever I ate any dairy products (even if I took lactaid, I still could have a reaction). I've been on this woe since 2/5/17, and haven't had the runs or painful IBS episode ONCE! I've been eating cheese, cream cheese, heavy cream, etc. I start my stay with coffee and cream daily!!! And I haven't had one issue! If I or a doctor pushed on my belly, I had extreme discomfort. I wore my pants very loose and avoided bending at the waist. ZERO DISCOMFORT since starting the WoE. I have to say, these two things are amazing! I didn't expect to have these side effects from this diet. Even if I wasn't losing weight, I'd stay on this WoE just for these!!!

What other benefits have you had? (Other than weight loss).

Woo hoo! Memorial Day is around the bend.... Suppose you're confident enough to wander out in white pants?

I would like to know just what it is about cutting carbs that calms the colonic chupacabra. Anyone have any insights?

Lactose intolerant too, or so they said, I'm just fine with all things dairy ever since starting and adjusting to Keto!

Lactose intolerance is an intolerance to the sugar in milk. So, it understandable that on a Keto/low sugar diet that our symptoms would be less.... however, I'm starting to wonder if the severity of my symptoms were more complicated that just lactose. My body isn't just lactose intolerant, I think my body is carbohydrate intolerant. Whether it is from milk, grain, or fruit, my body doesn't handle the sugar well. I get bloated, gas, diarrhea, skin issues, head aches, etc. oh and let's not forget how my liver responded to all the sugar in my diet!!!

Newer studies show that all humans have an adverse reaction to gluten that affects intestinal permeability; the length of time depends on which combo of Haptoglobin-1 and Haptoglobin-2 you get from your parents. Leaky gut also affects reactions to other foods such as dairy, etc.

It might not be simply the carbs themselves, it may be the kind of carbs eaten.

@RalfLott - my understanding of this relates back to all the things that we are told to "rule out" when autoimmunity is at play. I've also heard (tangentially) that nearly every gut issue ties back to some sort of auto-immune reaction -- or the type of reaction that becomes autoimmune with very little contributing factors.

That is said to be gluten/soy/dairy/sugar eliminations. That is in order of commonality with issues. Most people are able to add BACK in nearly all natural sugars, and the occasional instance of refined sugars after eliminating the combination of triggers for 60-90 days. Many folks can find that they can add back in whey or casein, sometimes both. A very select few can add back in soy, but this will still continue to irritate the guts (and hormones) of most folks, with or without visible symptoms. Most people should avoid gluten in all it's forms. Some tolerate it better than others, but gluten is almost always an issue, and this is generally the one that escalates and creates cascading failure with the other triggers.

I didn't understand the mechanism, specifically, but what I've heard is that the gut lining is literally only one cellular width deep. So it doesn't take much of anything to create leaky gut. It is the way our bodies respond to the "intruders" that escape into our bloodstream that create the varying level of digestive and bodily distress.

While autoimmunity may not be at the core of all this, my understanding is that the recovery/treatment is shared in many cases.
