Everyone says it, but just how do you do it? How do you take the guidelines of the WW program and turn them into a lifestyle you can live every day...from now on? That is what we are here to explore. Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion. Newbie? Join in! Veteran? Join in! Your thoughts may be just what someone else needs to hear.

Today's topic: Drinking Calories.? During the Day.? I'm really not referring to Alcohol Beverages. Do you drink juices?, smoothies?, Orange Juice, Vegetable juices?, or Vegetable Juicers, Milkshakes? Diet Shakes or Energy Drinks just to name a few.

Do you mind sharing the reasons if you drink them and what benefits do you feel you derive from them.?

Since I joined WW and began this journey I haven't done much drinking of my calories because on the GoaD board I found out pretty early on that when you took fruits or berries and blended them into a juice they became transformed into points much more than the actual fruit and that they were digested differently in the juice form.

I did along the way drink a few shakes for breakfast or meal replacements when I was in a real hurry and perhaps didn't have a lot of time to stop and eat or prepare a meal. Sometimes I just wanted to drink one to help my stomach shrink.

I really like the 10 calorie flavor water mix ins. It's minimal added calories to my day, but it makes it so that I always reach my water goal. On a side note: if they find that artificial sweeteners kill you I'm screwed.

Sometimes I'll make a homemade protein "milkshake": 1 frozen banana, 1 cup unsweetened cashew milk, 1 scoop quest vanilla protein powder, 2 handfuls spinach. It tastes awesome, is super thick and creamy, gives me 20 grams of protein, and has a serving of fruit and veggies all for around 250 calories. Not a bad bargain. But since I eat it with a spoon and the fruit and veggies keep their fiber since I blend them (not juice them) I don't know if I'd count it as a drink.

I like juice. I realize it doesn't have the fiber of whole fruit, but I also eat whole fruit. I don't drink a lot of juice - maybe once/twice a week.

I don't like to drink my calories. The exception is the 1/2 cup of unsweetened cranberry juice and 1/2 cup of tart cherry juice that I take to help with inflammation and boosting my immune system.

Occasionally I'll drink milk. And I carry juice in case of hypoglycemia. But otherwise I prefer to chew my calories.

Sometimes a protein shake. Sometimes with fruit to make a smoothie. Maybe 1 or 2 per week.

Except for the very occasional glass of milk, I don't drink non-alcohol calories.

On the old WW Plan (PPV) dairy was sorta like a "required" item so I would drink milk. I rarely have a glass of milk as a separate beverage now days. I still enjoy it with my cereal.

My most recent drink with SPs was V8 Spicy vegetable juice, small 6 oz can = 2 SPs. Good but the sodium was there too. There is a Low Sodium V8 but sorta bland to me, I prefer Spicy. I got off the kick after a few weeks.

I cut out Diet Coke a couple years ago and have accepted H2O as my best choice beverage.

I probably drink way too much coffee but I did stop adding two packets of artificial sweetener per cup. Now I add a limited, measured amount of SF hazelnut creamer or skim milk.

Summertime it's ice tea, I like to make a large jug of sun brewed out on my deck. Or I squeeze a lemon over a glass full of ice add water and artificial sweetener to make my own Homemade Lemonade.

Today I bought a small gadget to infuse water. Basic small plastic basket to hold a cut up lemon, lime or whatever to "infuse" a pitcher of H2O!

Oh the crazy things we try!!!

So in summary, No I don't like to drink SPs!

I don't like to drink my calories unless it is a really good Double IPA. I do have milk on my cereal and usually drink whats left. And I do have Golden milk made with unsweetened Almond/Coconut milk, Turmeric paste and some honey & vanilla. But I do that to help with inflammation.

I do occasionally have half & half in my coffee. Its not a lot of calories unless I splurge on light cream.

I drink my morning coffee with real cream and sugar. Later in the day, the coffee is black.

I just drink black coffee during the day. I like to have wine at night sometimes. And I used to drink a ton of skim milk but have cut way back on that.

I rarely drink my calories, with the exception of a couple-few beers a week. I used to be a pretty big milk drinker, but haven't had much, if any of that in months! Coffee and water are my two most frequent liquids. But now that you mention milkshakes... B)

I'm in the same boat as Rachel. lol

I RARELY drink calories! I usually drink iced tea with Splenda, no matter the season, or Diet Pepsi.

I typically only drink water, iced tea (slowly moving to unsweetened), and coffee (only in the morning). About once a month I might have a Diet Caffeine-free Pepsi.

I seldom drink juices of any kind. Occasionally I may drink a small glass of orange juice if I'm having breakfast out. I can't tell you the last time I had a smoothie of any kind, and would rather die than drink a protein shake. I prefer to get my protein in other ways -- just like my calories.

I do occasionally have a glass of wine. Thankfully, I'm not a fan of beer at all and also not a fan of most liquors. Don't get me wrong -- I did my time with alcohol; but I was much younger.

@Jimb376mfp -- if you like Spicy V8, try just adding hot sauce to the plain low-sodium V8. I actually prefer tomato juice to V8, but I always add hot sauce to it -- my preference is Texas Pete :)

I drink milk every morning, but other than that I rarely drink my calories. Sometimes, after a run I will have a smoothie.
