Gaining weight

Hi everyone! I have a question. I started LCHF a few weeks ago and lost weight at first, but now I just keep gaining. I don't cheat, at all. But, I am not exercising as much as I like. Has anyone else had this problem?

I've been pretty much gaining all year...are you tracking any other metrics besides weight? Taking measurements? Taking photos? For me, the scale is of no consequence to fat loss...I'm in clothes that I couldn't wear when I was 6 lbs lighter and my measurements are definitely down from that time...the scale is just a number, I'm a huge fan of tracking more than weight.

Thanks! I will start measuring and see if that at least keeps me motivated!

First I agree completely with @tcunbeliever because having white fat convert to brown fat (which burns fat - you can google brown fat to learn more) can take some time. Brown fat is denser than white fat, so you can lose size without losing weight and even gain a little bit.

Second there are some things which may contribute to gain that are not frequently seen as cheating. Some food components that you may want to look at are:
    1. coffee creamer - these are generally a bad idea and have more effect than the calories/carbs they may indicate. Use HWC, butter and/or MCT/coconut oil instead
    2. artificial sweeteners - for SOME people, these can spike insulin in the same way sugar does which is why sugar causes fat storage on your body
    3. eating the wrong fats - if your fat consumption is coming primarily through vegetable oils or seed oils which are common in many readily accessible foods now a days, these are filled with omega 6 fatty acids and will have a negative impact on all aspects of getting healthy. Make sure you are getting fats from natural sources like butter, meat, olive oil, coconut oil, etc. If you look at an oil and wonder "how did they get oil from that (i.e. corn)" then avoid it.
    4. not getting electrolytes in proper balance - see launchpad for a TON of information on that one as it is probably the #1 error when people start this WOE
    5. food volume/trigger foods - although there are some foods that fit nicely into this WOE, they may not be as satiating as others and more easily overeaten. For me, this would be nuts. I can eat 5,000 calories worth in one sitting pretty easily if I am not mindful. Therefore, nuts are a treat for me and not a regular daily food.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help. I understand now about the brown fat vs white fat, and makes since to me. I don't drink coffee, so no cream. I do eat nuts, but try to portion control. I don't think my electrolytes are in balance, so I am going to look into that a little more. I really appreciate your advice, and will definitely keep plugging along to see where I end up!

Let me add that I used to freak out when I didn't see the scale move sometimes for weeks. Your body can retain up to 4 lbs while you are doing everything right and losing fat but the scale will say otherwise

I've not had that problem during non-keto weight loss, non-keto maintenance, keto maintenance. One word for me regarding loss and maintenance:

    Calories.

I recognize others may benefit by doing various things or eating/not eating various foods. That "other stuff" to me is about health.

Just remember the numbers on the scale are just numbers. Just because they don't move or even go up doesn't mean you aren't progressing. Your body can hold water or gain muscle mass.
Doesn't mean you aren't burning fat.
The body measurements thing is a great idea. I do it and only wish I'd have taken more measurements instead of a few. It's a great motivator to see those nsv.
