We are in mud season....as evidenced by my van being stuck down in mud to the hubs.

@BBee5064, when it comes to cleaning, motivation can be difficult. For myself, I want to keep the dust bunnies from taking over the house... they breed like wabbits!!

@chamblisk, I hear you. My muddy situation is about to get better. My neighbour had eavestroughs installed on Monday. He used to have none so when it rained, the space between his house and my driveway would turn into mud which flowed onto my driveway. Not enough to get bogged to the hubs... Hopefully someone can tow you out?

Our rain starts in June and goes through Oct.
Wed morning an iguana tried to cross my four lane road with traffic going 45 miles an hour.
I slowed and maybe sort of swerved to avoid it. The critter turned to run back to the canal.
Afterwards, I realized I should have prioritized the safety of the drivers in the cars behind me over the iguana. Sometimes driving to work takes much focus.

@RodaRose, one of the hardest lessons of driving is making that decision whether to swerve or maintain your course when a critter crosses in front of you. The "safe" thing to do is to maintain your course but that often means the critter becomes roadkill and for many of us, that's a repugnant thought.

A couple of years ago, a woman was killed in traffic after she got out of her car to shepherd a duck & ducklings across a busy roadway. Not an ideal solution.

On the way to a fire one time a huge barn owl attacked the light bar on top of my truck. We looked for it on the way back, but no luck. No twitching for wildlife with a large truck and crew aboard.

@Farback, in an instance like you described, even if you wanted to swerve, by the time you reacted, the collision is over. Poor barn owl. :(

Spring has sprung and for the past three days the clouds have sprung April showers. Got new sneaks today and start walking again tomorrow. Haven't walked regularly for months and haven't had a good walk in weeks. Time to get moving again.

We had a massive thunder storm and pounding rain overnight. It was loud enough that it awakened me... and that's no easy trick... So Ottawa was squeaky clean this morning... but the pollen count went off the charts. Thankfully, I have the meds to kick the itchy eyes...

Maiden voyage tomorrow! Five years in the making for my personal boat. The build was on hiatus while I was fire chief, then the stupid heart attack, etc.

First trip today on a local pond. She handles like a dream. Tracks straight as a die, stable, and feels great on the water. Went upwind then downwind, didn't need to extend the skeg at all. Couple small things to fix up, and a few more shake-down trips before I head for a week solo in the back country in June.

Farback, your boat is lovely. Looks like getting out was a project in itself. Recently I met a man who makes boats all by hand. Nails, wood and paint, no epoxy. He was doing a sailboat at the time. Yours looks as nice as anything he had in his boat buidling shop. The prices he asked were fierce. I think you could make a fortune!

Thanks guys. This is my most ambitious build, my own design, and seven different woods in it. I'm very proud of this one, and very happy with the way it performs.

Awesome looking kayak, @Farback! Almost too beautiful to get wet/dirty...glad it handles so well! It's gorgeous and I'm sure going to bring you a lot of joy for years! Glad you finally got to try it out!!

My Spring thus far has been annoyingly windy, so it's been keeping me off the water :( Probably should be doing some Spring cleaning, but totally not motivated to do that either. The dust bunnies are mutating into dust monsters.

That is my fear incarnated... if the dust bunnies mutate, who knows where it will end? I fear for my cats...

It rained all day Sunday and Monday. This morning, it stopped raining but my backyard has a few inches of standing water. sigh...

If I had your skills, I would be all over that... We have numerous suitable bodies of water for kayaks in this area.

LOL...well, I have a cat that seems to like to eat some of them, which is why I seem to always have cat barf somewhere in my house at any given time. I know...TMI... :/ Good to know he's just protecting the other cats... ;)

Ah, got back on the water today...wind was higher than I like (7-8 mph or so), but I have a race on Saturday so I needed to get out there (and it looks like the wind will be a bit higher for the race than I'd like (10-11mph)...will be great for the spectators to keep them cool, but yuck for the racers...especially since we'll have it for a head wind for the second half of the race). Nice to be back on the water...even if it's a tough paddle...at least I can have pizza and beer tonight for dinner with all the calories burned today.

My ladies are too dainty to eat dust bunnies so they've got no such easy excuse for their barf.

This is an overhead view of the start of our 5K race yesterday. I was trying to find myself, as I was on one of the blue boards, but I am either just heading under the bridge or I'm closer to middle of the pack. Wow, it looks so calm from overhead...but we had 10 mph sustained winds, with crazy gusts of 25+mph. Glad we were on the river for the race as it wasn't too choppy and with the small craft advisory, there wasn't much boat traffic other than the water taxi to contend with...

@b3achy, it does look calm although there is a visible ripple...

    Congrats again on your results!

I'm gathering estimates on having my driveway replaced & widened and replacing my front walkway. The first estimate was delivered today. I gave all three companies my budget... $20k... so imagine my surprise when the guy shows up with an estimate of $25k before taxes. His design was interesting but damn...

So we discussed and I pointed out how much above budget he came in. He said he could redo the design to try to meet the requirement. I said I'm waiting to see the other design proposals before I make any decisions and he was free to make modifications if he chose to do so...
