I have been doing some lifting during some of the classes at the Y, only at 20#. I'm new to the 5x5, so should I start with an empty bar the first day? I have downloaded the app to my phone, but have not paid for the upgrade, so will it tell me when to add weight? I have so many questions.

    Start as light as you think you need to to lift without getting hurt. Don't worry, the program will catch up pretty quick. The cost if the up grade is light, I think, I found it to be worth the small cost. I think it's a one time deal. Start light, maybe lighter than you think you need to. it gets heavy quickly. Enjoy

    I should have said that I am a 59 year old female and I love lifting in the classes, so I thought I would try the Stronglift 5x5.
