Strength Training

I had RNY over a year ago. I've recently started strength training. I see my friends drinking drinks for a pre-workout then post-workout as well. Should I be drinking these to get the results I want or do you think its way too much caffeine etc for someone that had RNY? Any advice appreciated

I dunno, I think a lot of these pre- and post-workout drinks have a lot more to do with selling the drinks. Do you have a trainer? If so what do they think? If not, contact your surgeon for an opinion. I recently started working with a trainer, and she competes in various fitness competitions, and she hasn't mentioned the need for these supplements for me. My previous trainer never recommended them either. He said if I feel tired I can drink a cup of coffee lol. I think in general if your diet is good you should get the results you want.1

In general, these drinks are terrible for anyone. I would say check with your doctor, but for the most part, just getting a good amount of protein in after a workout, especially after weight training, will help to build muscle.2

I agree with @garber6th. Check with a trainer of dietician about supplements. Get their advice on your macros to build muscle. I still drink a recovery protein shake after my workout's.(bariatric patients are used to shakes, Right? )
I admit I have experimented with some of the products. Honestly, I think it's more of the work I put in at the gym and hitting my macro goals.1 -
I drink coffee as a pre workout and used to drink a protien shake as a postwork out
I tend to just eat a higher protien meal after exercise these days2 -
My trainer doesn't believe in those ore amd post workout drinks - water is best, but if you need some extra electrolytes try some sort of enhanced water. If you can tolerate bananas well (I find I gain 10 lbs if I look at a banana), have a small one and split between pre and post workout to replenish potassium. For me personally, I can't have anything in my system when I work out so I just have water and that works for me.0

I have a small snack about 30 minutes before the gym and protein within an hour of finishing the gym. The pre and post drinks are a gimmick.1
