Make the Better Choice (MTBC) - 06/02/2017

All of us are faced with those times when making the "best" choice is something that isn't going to happen. Sometimes that is by circumstance...sometimes by limited choice...or sometimes personal preference.

DOCKANZ, a GoaD stalwart for several years, coined the phrase "Make the Better Choice" (MTBC) several years ago, and it's become an anchor for several of us on GoaD over the years. Basically, if you can't make the BEST choice...make the BETTER choice. You can, at least, do that much.

So - how have you made the better choice today?

Friday went to BD lunch for friend at Italian restaurant. They serve garlic knots in large quantities for the table. I had one AND STOPPED! It was delicious and lots of SPs but I had only one!

I noticed other eating them almost nonstop! I actually enjoyed having JUST ONE! I made the Better Choice of one, the "best" Choice may have been none but I tracked it and enjoyed it.

I delayed breakfast as I usually do on weekends.. ate a lot -almost 900 calories, or about 1/2 my plan for the day taking into account the exercise and meals planned.

I'm skipping lunch (easy.. it's noon and I just finished breakfast  ) going to avoid snacking, get in a walk and some light Taekwondo practice, have a nice satisfying dinner of stuffed bell peppers and call it a day.

Personally I think having one was the best choice, as long as your day made room for it.. because deprivation diets seldom work for long. You have to be able to live a lifestyle that is sustainable and still includes the little pleasures. The difference - moderation.

And personally, I'm finding that knowing there is a limit is forcing me to eat the calorie dense items more mindfully, which makes them even more enjoyable. In limiting myself to a reasonable amount, I am definitely enjoying the experience much more than if I were gorging myself!

Great job Jim! I sometimes find it easier to just say no, but sometimes you just want some. Nice will power!

I totally agree that limiting a treat can make it way more enjoyable! I used to scarf down high calorie foods and not even taste them. No more!

As for my MTBC, I wanted ice cream today so I had a cone with 1/4 cup, total 9 SP. That left me with 5 for dinner, and I wanted to have some popcorn during the hockey game tonight. So, a 3 SP salad for dinner, tuna, kale, homemade dressing, and some fruit. Went 2 into my weeklies. Not bad for all the 'wanting' I did. A little portion control, some good choices, and a successful on program day! I might be getting the hang of this LOL
