I was a town kid, but in the summertime, I worked on lots of local farms baling hay. I love the smell of fresh cut hay. Today, a local farmer and some teens baled 1,458 bales of hay. This is what is called the 'first cutting". If all goes well, we will get two more cuttings this summer. Each cutting has less volume, but the quality of those cuttings is higher than the first cut. Interesting that the quality rises, as the volume goes down.

@RangerRickL, that post reminds me of this song. You nearly quoted the first line!

Pass day #1 today.
Woke up tired (have done for a few days now). Tried to complete my usual rowing program but it was a real effort so stopped after 10 minutes. Went to work but just had no energy so called my boss and asked for the afternoon off to rest. Spent the rest of my day reading, napping and catching up on the sports highlights. Hoping that it's just that I've been overdoing things and I'm not getting sick.
Win for me though, having decided to take a pass day and feeling tired there was a big temptation to stop logging and pig out on junk but I didn't, still tracked and came in under calories. So despite being a pass day I'm really happy with my choices.
Going to sleep now and it's not even 9:15, hoping to feel back to normal tomorrow.4 -
@aeshippers you may need to drink more water. Tiredness is the first sign of dehydration. The 8 glasses/2litres which is regularly mentioned is a minimum, in winter with no central heating or exercise. Weight loss uses up water too. Pee clear!
You also might need to increase iron intake (leafy greens and red meat). With iron, you should take.VitC, to help the iron to absorb.
@craigo3154 - how's my advice? I think you will know more than me.1 -
OY shopping with mom was quite the experience. All of a sudden she turned crabby. I tried everything to make her happy and that meant I tried on a lot of clothes as she decided she thought she knew what would look great on me. She is really great at finding clothes that pick out my worst areas or it could be because she just picked the wrong size because it looked big enough. I did get a few things but for everything that is coming in the house something is leaving so I was very choosy. I will definitely be doing more ab work. I keep forgetting that my new job I sit for most of the day and need to focus on stuff or I will turn into a marshmallow.
I also need to get back into the habit of doing up meals in advance. I do fine for everything but dinner as I let my husband do that meal. I really need to just focus and not care if I hurt his feelings. Most of the times what he makes is stuff I don't even want to eat anyway I'm just eating it because he made it. I really need to get my act together.4 -
@aeshippers .. well done getting to the middle of the month and only on pass 1 ... I look forward to hearing your 3 yesses tomorrow
@2020pinktogo you may need to go clothes shopping alone next time lol ..
I'm so tired today, my 6 mile walk has wiped me out, however i promised to go for a walk with my mum today and the sun is shining, I'm sure I will fell better when I get out the door shes coming up at 1:30 so I have 15 minutes to pull myself together lol

Exercised?: Yes. Walked 4.7km in 43 minutes (Hills - One Tree via north face).
Calories?: Yes.
Tracked?: Yes.
@aeshippers. There can be a number of reasons for feeling exhausted. Becoming ill is one of the reasons. Overtraining is another common cause (adequate rest days for muscle groups is required - especially when incorporating strength training). From what I can see, your diet looks pescatarian and what you eat is considered FAR healthier than I do (I see no obvious problems with vitamin intake - but adding a multivitamin will fill in any gaps in your diet if you desire). You may need more fish to keep the protein levels up. As @scubachick67 mentioned, you need to keep water intake up also ensure the iron in the diet is being absorbed.
@aeshippers. Well done for not succumbing to the lure of junk food. Use pass days if you need to and get your strength back. Maybe even see a doctor (as this has been going for a while - could have something else going on). No use hitting target if it's going to be harmful. If you need an exercise less stressful than running, rowing or cycling, try walking (at a pace at which you could comfortably hold a conversation - wont give you a lot of extra calories in the budget, but won't stress you too hard and does count for the UAC 20 mins).
@2020pinktogo. It's hard to please people all the time. Find something that also gives you pleasure. You have been working hard and deserve some you time. btw, I also work a sedentary job and need to find ways to get out and keep moving. Remember, exercise is less than 15% of the weight management equation (most energy is consumed just keeping the body warm and the brain working). Use exercise to keep healthy, not just to try burn calories.
@2020pinktogo. Lastly, talk to hubby about meals BEFORE he prepares them. This way you can help determine ingredients and portion control. Is hubby on MFP? Can he see what you have tracked eating wise? Does he have a way of finding out how much is left in your daily budget? Open/honest communication is the key to keeping things happy at home.

Last day before my surgery so it will be a busy one! Will be going to our friends this evening as I have to be at the hospital at 6:30am and my husband can not drive for another week.
@2020pinktogo WOW! sounds like you had quite a day shopping. Like @craigo3154 said make sure you are taking some YOU time. I know it is our nature to look after others but WE are important too! Have you discussed with your husband the struggle you are having with your program? Does he understand what you are trying to do? I have had these discussions with mine and he is now very supportive and we plan meals together. Not sure if this will help but can't hurt..lol
@slimpossible007 it is good that you are going walking today, just make sure you are not overdoing it 2 days in a row. Your body will let you know when it has had enough..remember you have to get back home though..lol
@aeshippers glad to hear you took sometime to look after YOU today, hope you are back to yourself soon. I have faith that you know your body and will do the right thing for yourself.
@craigo3154 GREAT walk today and as always GREAT advice!
@scubachick67 thanks for the friend request. Hope you got my message.
@RangerRickL Is this your farm? Do you bale hay?
Reminder to @everyone.........Your ATTITUDE determines your success! If you portray you can do it, THEN YOU CAN.........If you portray that you can't..YOU CAN'T.
An employee of mine once said to me when I was discussing how his positive attitude enhances our working environment, "It is not your APTITUDE but your ATTITUDE that determines your ALTITUDE in life"....Will never forget this
I will be checking in later with all my positive results........lol4 -
I'm back! This weekend turned into a crazy family reunion at my house. At the max, we had 36 people at my house, 28 of them sleeping at my house. This was all happening while my mom was in the hospital. She's been in and out for the last month fighting pancreatitis as a result of gal stones. She was released and got to join the big party! All 5 of my siblings and their spouses and children were there (we were just missing one grandchild and one spouse) We decided the theme was "So Happy Together" We had people there from as far as Guam (I'm in Utah).
Luckily I had prepared the meals in advance but keeping 36 people fed and entertained for 4 days was a lot of work and I had to use my 3 pass days all in a row. I'm happy I was able to keep it going through Saturday and am back on track today.7 -
@pribud I did get your message. Im sending you lots of cyber "heal quickly" vibes.
@shauna30 You get my vote for Wonder Woman! Can I come on holidsys to your place to get fed and foddered for a week. Lol.
My report today: This is my 4th pass day. I tracked, but nothing else. My cals were 800 over and I got no exercise (unless you include doing laundry all day...ah the glam). My food choices were not very good, but I.enjoyed every bite.
I am out if the winners circle, but I will keep going as if I am not.
I will also be back for another round in July!

Thanks for the advice and support everyone - pleased to report I feel less tired today but have decided to take an active rest day with only walking and maybe a little pilates / stretching for exercise.
@scubachick67 - I usually drink lots of herbal & green tea but will try adding more water today in case.
@slimpossible007 - I was hoping to save my 3 pass days as I have a 1 day work conference next week and a 2 day conference the following week and I suspect calories and tracking will be an issue - going to have to make at least one of those days count now though!
@craigo3154 - thanks for the encouragement, have already planned to do lower exercise today and maybe tomorrow. Lots of walking for next few days anyway as I am dogsitting for a friend from tonight until Sunday afternoon.
@pribud - thanks and am feeling better today if not completely back o full energy levels. Hope your operation is successful and you too are back to normal and better than normal soon.

My husband is not a MFP fan he actually prefers me heavier. He is insecure and feels one day I am going to leave him. Does he watch calories or count them heck no. My parents are surprised at the amount of food my husband can consume and they are not healthy. When I bring things up he gets worse so I know I have to play my weight cards close to my chest so he has no clue.
I am starting to do things with coworkers we are signing up for a craft class. Hubby is not thrilled but I thought it would be fun. I am working on doing things for myself it's just the family isn't use to this at all.
I will work on making myself a priority. It may help on my weight loss if I am feeling more confident in myself. Thanks everyone!!!5 -
@pribud I don't want to come home, thats where the housework waits
@aeshippers I don't envy you .. eating out can be very tricky, we got a food flask from amazon which is AMAZING .. keeps food warm for (it says 24 hours) but I'd say 12 hours ... it is amazing! If you put food in piping hot it still is too hot to eat 6 hours later .. I put soups, currys, stews etc in it and it solved my hubbys problems for eating on the go .. heat in the morning and your lunch / dinner is still warm when you want it
heres the link if your interested hope it works

@2020pinktogo. Sounds as if you and your husband are growing apart. There are so many "warning signals" going off in this post it alarms me. I've always thought open communication and the willingness to learn/compromise (of both parties) are the foundations of a successful relationship (it's worked for the last 27+ years for me).
I am so glad you are working on you and your confidence. I fear you may need the confidence in ways you may not currently expect.

Exercise? Yes; 58 minutes of strength training and a 30 minute run
Calories? Yes
Tracking? Yes3 -
Celebrated my 69th birthday today, and the thought was there to just take a pass day and indulge in big chunks of carrot cake, lotsa chips, and who knows what else..... enjoy them in moderation??...forget it, all out gluttony for a day!! lol.... Just couldn't do it though, just not worth the risk of one day turning into two, two into five, etc. And....I'll be going to bed happy, instead of filled with regret.
Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? Yes
Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? Yes ( thankfully )
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? Yes
Very thankful for this group!!6 -
It's a little late and I'm sleepy, but I've read all these posts and hold you all in prayers and thoughts.
@pribud good luck with your surgery. Hope all goes well.
@2020pinktogo about 20 years ago I lost a lot of weight including 175 lb husband. Best thing I ever did for myself. Married his best friend, my soul mate. Your partner should be encouraging you through this, not feeling threatened by it.
@craigo3154 you need to hang out a shingle. You give great advice and insight.
I'm calling it a day. Yes to all three!!!4 -
@fightingthetideofaging HAPPY BIRTHDAY Great job on foregoing the day of gluttony!1
-
@fightingthetideofaging Happy Birthday!!! Congrats for sticking to your guns and not doing a full blowout! You have more discipline than me. Also, carrot cake = the best.
Exercise: Yes, tried T25 and made it all of 5 minutes, haha! I'm going to keep working toward getting through the whole thing. I supplemented today's attempt with some line and salsa dancing (by myself. Mine is a thrilling life).
Calories: Yes. I'm finding I need to stop eating such a high-cal breakfast--it makes the rest of the day more difficult. I'm going to try two eggs tomorrow.
Tracked: Yes.5 -
Exercise was farm chores and walking
Calories: under by only 210
Tracking: ok4 -
@fightingthetideofaging - HAPPY BIRTHDAY and awesome work for not going all out with the cake1
-
@aeshippers Awesome work tracking and staying within your calorie goal, despite feeling tired. Everyone needs a rest day now and then
@2020pinktogo I am a firm believer that you cannot make others happy, if you are not happy yourself, so you carry on taking care of you. It will show in your relationships, and I'm sure your loved ones will come around. Good luck with the crafting group!
@fightingthetideofaging Happy Birthday! Way to stick with your healthy habits, even on your birthday!
@pribud Good luck tomorrow! I wish you a speedy recovery! Congratulations on making your pre-surgery goal!

@2020pinktogo encouraging you to look after yourself and do the things you want to do, others will eventually come around. It is too bad you could not have an honest conversation with your husband and be able to find a common ground. I will be thinking about you! Good luck with your crafting classes.
@fightingthetideofaging Happy Birthday and Congratulations on your HUGE NSV! What an inspiration you are!
I am going to have an early night. Will check in with you guys when I can. Who knows maybe even tomorrow as I will have my tablet with me. Good news is I have not used any pass days this month yet so I COULD still make the winners circle!

@aeshippers - I hope you continue to feel better and are back to your usual energizer bunny self very soon!
@shauna30 - it sounds like it was crazy, but fun, at your house. More power to ya!
@2020pinktogo - when we make changes, it forces those around us to adjust. Change is hard for anyone but some resist more than others. As you have shown, change can lead to wonderful things. Sending you strength and perseverance on your journey.3 -
