Hi all!

I went back and reviewed my diary and it seems that I'm not getting enough protein in, but yet what I'm eating has me full and I don't feel like eating.

I was thinking of trying protein shakes, but am hesitant of the flavors. If you use protein shakes, what kind do you use?

If not, how are you getting your protein in?

Thanks

    Hi Tina,

I get my protein in a couple of ways....Chobani Flip Greek yogurt, Kind bars, Premier protein bottles, and I make a protein shake with vanilla whey, a banana, milk and a tbsp of almond butter. Other than that I get it through food.

Finding what you like is trial and error with flavor, name brands, and ingredients.

I like the Pure Protein Vanilla Creme - Whey. I tried the Muscle Milk Cookies n Creme and I really don't like it. I have also tried plant based ones and didn't like them.

Thanks!! I'll take a look at the premier protein. It was talked about in an article I read this morn.

How much protein are you goaled at and how much are you getting on average?

I do protein shakes for breakfast every morning because I can make it the night before and drink it while driving to work. Easy peasy. I use a plant-based protein (SunWarrior, Warrior Blend, chocolate) because my body doesn't always handle dairy well (ie. whey). If you are new to protein powder, do be aware that plant powders don't usually mix as well as whey protein and have a different taste - but personally, I really like mine. Only 100 cal and it gives me 16g of protein, not to mention the other goodies in there. For example, it gives me decent amounts of iron & potassium, whereas most cheaper whey proteins will be strictly protein. It is chocolate flavored and I mix it with water/almond milk and sometimes cold coffee. If you get a vanilla flavored one, you can make a true "shake" by mixing with peanut butter, or fruits, and using a blender.

Other sources of protein: eggs, yogurt, those low-fat string cheese sticks (50cal gives 7g protein!), and if it falls in your calorie goals, then nuts and nut butters.

Costco sells Light Chocolate Muscle milk that are delicious and a great way to add in protein! It's 100 calories, 1 g of sugar, 0 g of fat, and 20 g of protein. It's easy, fast and a great way to fill you up before a big workout or to keep yourself from snacking.

I use Elevation Protein Powder (Chocolate) from Aldi. It tastes really good with unsweetened Almondmilk. I also have been eating Yoplait's Greek 100 Protein yogurts. They have about 15g of protein per container.

I add protein powder to my morning coffee - a scoop of Slimquick Pure Double Chocolate flavor for hot coffee and I really like the Quest Salted Caramel in Iced Coffee. I use a bullet blender thing to get it mixed properly. Other things I do:
-Collagen Peptides have 18g protein for 72 cals and dissolve great in liquid - I add this to coffee and tea (also helps with skin elasticity during weight loss)
-vanilla protein powder mixed in with chia pudding or overnight oats
-Greek yogurt veggie dip - mix 2 cups plain Greek yogurt with 1 packet Hidden Valley dip mix (I love the Fiesta Ranch and Harvest Dill flavors)
-Chobani Simply 100 Crunch bowls or the Dannon Light & Fit Greek yogurt with stir-in's (about 130 cals)
