Everyone says it, but just how do you do it? How do you take the guidelines of the WW program and turn them into a lifestyle you can live every day...from now on? That is what we are here to explore. Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion. Newbie? Join in! Veteran? Join in! Your thoughts may be just what someone else needs to hear.

For me it is most often a protein, a starch and a vegetable with a glass of water. I do miss drinking a 1/2 gallon of milk every day2

About the same with a salad once in a while fat free dressing or light dressing if I need the calories or pts.1

Something warm. I find warm foods more satisfying than cold items. Breakfast is always something warm, 99% of the time is my fresh made omelet. Lunch/Dinner is something I've cooked in bulk over the weekend that is heated up in the microwave.
Obviously on days like tomorrow when I'm out riding my bike all day, there won't be anything warm other than breakfast and then dinner at my friend's house. What I eat on the bike ride serves to keep my legs fueled. I don't find it particularly satisfying like a meal would be.2 -
Except for breakfast, it's almost always a protein, a starch, and a vegetable. Snacks are typically a fruit of some kind. Right now that's usually a peach because they're "in season" in NC right now. Breakfast is usually an egg and grits. Or oatmeal. Sometimes I have bacon with the eggs and grits.
And always coffee with breakfast.2 -
I like the definition my office mate gave when I asked her this question: A meal is whatever satisfies your hunger.

A meal = when eating is my focus. It typically involves cooking but not always. It is substantial enough to last me several hours, 400-600 calories and 30-45g carb.
A snack = when I'm just eating something to get me to the next meal (but don't stop what else I'm doing). 100-200 calories and 15-20g carb.2 -
My typical meal is 3-4oz protein, a fat serving, veggies, 1-2 servings of carbs. Usually it falls between 350-550 calories.1

~8 ounces of meat, a large serving of vegetables and/or salad, either 1cup milk, or water to drink.
Everything else is just eating to survive the day.1 -
I like Murple' s definition except I don't have the calorie and carb qualifiers.

Breakfast, lunch or dinner. As opposed to a snack.
A meal is going to have a good source of protein. And enough volume to be satisfying. Usually means plentiful veggies. But lunch when I'm fishing tends to be a sandwich.

The thing I eat 2 or 3 times a day, depending. Not to be confused with a snack.1

I know it when I see it 3 times a day. Craft brew and popcorn isn't. That's a snack/ treat.2

Oh heck, these days it could be anything, but I guess it's a meal for me if there's enough of it to keep me satisfied for several hours. Therefore, there's got to be enough protein in it to last for awhile.1
