I have loved and still am a low carb proponent. This way of eating and living reversed type 2 diabetes, eradicated high blood pressure and got my blood chemistry to what my doctor calls "simply amazing".

It has been almost 3 years. No desire to change a thing other than there was one fundamental principle that took a few years to get. I wish I would have learned this sooner

Low carb diets deplete your glycogen first, not eating carbs, your body burns off stored glycogen quickly. Glycogen is basically water with sugar in it. When you drop that fast initial weight on low carb, it is that water weight falling off!! And oh does that mess with the electrolytes of some people. Lots of directions to take in pink Himalayan rock salt. Which I did.

So I dropped lots of water/glycogen and added in salt, which helps you retain water too. I stuck with it lost lots of weight. If I ate enough carbs to store glycogen, I gained pounds!!! The math did not add up. I did not eat 7000 calories so why did I gain 2.5 lbs!! That pesky water glycogen stuff

So for new people, it was a little comfort for me to understand why weight loss is so quick at first then the calorie defecit takes over. Also understanding why pounds jump back on if I eat too many carbs, and why eating 1000 extra calories of steak does not put weight on you like 1000 calories of cake

That pesky water suspension of glycogen....

Calories count, but the way glycogen is stored in water exaggerates the weight gain or loss.

Low carb isn't magic. It is science. It is a diet to live with! I have done half marathons, Iron Man 79.3 triathlons, century rides on my bike. This diet works for an active life!

Now time for a steak!!

Being a bit of a LCHF doofus, I had to read it a couple of times to get your message.

Basically: 100g protein - weight drops off.
100g carbs = 300g of weight gain, due to the sugars/glucose in the carbs making you bloat/retain water, ie, Glycogen.

The moral of the story is:
Eat too much protein, and not a lot happens, really.
Eat a little carb - and you'll end up regretting it for quite a while.

    How's that for a summing up? Is that accurate - ? :)

    Yep

Carb bloat may be discouraging, making people feel they have failed. They didn't. That's just how the science works

It takes a minute to get back into a keto state so be patient.

All is not lost! Just keep on and it will work!
