Exercised?: Yes. Walked 7.8 Km in 71 mins (hills).
Calories?: Yes.
Tracked?: Yes.
Not raining today. Managed to get a regular type walk in. Felt overdue after easy Wednesday and Thursday I did at least do a double set on the strength work last night.
@RangerRickL. Largely true about foods with TV commercials. Some advertised foods are not bad, some are horrendous. Better to do your own research and look at nutrition information. Higher protein, fibre and fat (mono, poly and saturated {not trans}) will make you feel sated on less.
@RangerRickL. Thanks for the advice on maintenance yesterday. I don't consider myself on a diet. I feel like I am on a diet. I eat almost anything I want (sometimes less than what I used to). The hard things for me in transition to maintenance will be working up to eating enough (and not too much) and keeping up the exercise. MFP and UAC are my ticket to that. Thank you.
@trixsey1. I like your planning.
@shonat11. Great to play with the kids. I find a half glass of wine is plenty for me these days (we have an amazing cellar - over 20 cases of many different wines (mostly red) - working through them slowly - about two bottles a week over dinners between my wife and I).
@Slimpossible007. Well done on an almost negative day. Good occasionally, but hopefully better balanced most of the week.
@conchita962. 6 lbs in 3 weeks. Excellent. Even better that you seem to have broken the 4 lbs yoyo. Obviously doing the right thing. Keep it up. Glad UAC is helping.
@pribud. Thank you. You are fantastic encouragement. Keep in the limits and best wishes for a speedy recovery. Sounds like you are doing great.
@120maggie. Great that you felt up to running. Sorry to hear it was hard on the knees. Maybe better shoes (more cushioning) would help if you wanted to do it more often. Get professional help when choosing shoes. I've looked into running, but I'd need new shoes (as my walking shoes are about dead in cushioning). I've also read that technique is critical to prevent injury (ie. avoid heel striking, posture, etc..), so some coaching may also be wise.
Hope all have a good day today.3 -
TY @craigo3154 it turned out it I was negative calories as map my fitness and MFP had some kind of glitch last night ... I was at -184 calories by end of day when my walk logged in properly
As for the balance .. I work on a monthly avg (which is why I allow myself as high at 2000 cals in a day .. at the moment my avg cals in are 1600 and my avg net cals are around 1250 ..4 -

Perfectionism is a very common happiness stumbling block. Here are 2 anti-perfectionist mantras that I especially like:
1. "Don't get it perfect-get it going."
2. "Don't spend your time rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic."
Have a great day everyone.5 -
July 21st
Exercised?: Yes
Calories?: Yes.
Tracked?: Yes.
Pretty much the same today. Had my jog (35mins), 30mins on the cross trainer, then 30 mins of strength training (with weights).
I'm trying to focus more on my upper body as I have very little strength in this area, I can't do push ups to save my life, lol and planks about kill me!
Haven't been sleeping well these past few nights, and I think it's starting to catch up with me as I felt really fatigued during my jog, but I pushed myself through it.
It's my Dad's birthday tomorrow (he's gone now) and it's been weighing heavy on my mind these past few days, so hopefully after tomorrow I'll start to pick up a little.
I've entered another 5K run tomorrow as well, so with it being his birthday I'm running this one for him - hopefully he'll give me a bit of a push!
@pribud - thank you for your kind words yesterday.
I too used to write poems when the kids where younger, mainly riddles, or I'd hide an object somewhere in the house then write a poem about where it was so they could guess it's location! Loved your poem to your son!

@RangerRickL - Your quote is great! It reminds me of another good rule of thumb as well:
Eat mostly food from the perimeter of the grocery store
The fresh fruits and vegetables, and if you eat them, meat, eggs and dairy are on the perimeter. The processed food is usually on the inside. Just one glitch, my favorite store has a bakery on the perimeter so, yeah, need to skip that part!
Congrats to you @conchita962! What a great feeling!!
Referring back to the headphones mentioned yesterday, I do love my Bose Soundsport wireless headphones. As Rick mentioned, having wireless headphones really makes a strength or similar type workout much easier and more enjoyable! These one's fit my ears well. Also, it used to be that women's workout gear had no pockets. Where are you supposed to put your phone with your music!!!? Armbands and waistbands lead to chafing when you run. Now, all the legging style workout pants and shorts have pockets on the side for your phone. Awesome! Little things in life make me so happy sometimes!
Got in a nice 9 mile run this am before the heat descended.8 -
Yes x34

ate within my cals
exercised for 40 mins on my spin bike - 15 miles
I think it also took me that long to get mapmyfitness to link to MFP .. its driving me nuts ... no idea why its not syncing any more!! it keeps adding random stuff as well .. arrg !!!!
Hope everyone is doing well and smashing through their goals !4 -

Well, I did well on almost everything today, except getting in my exercise. I'm feeling so strong about my food and nutrition, but still haven't really settled on an exercise regimen. I've been walking mostly this month, but on weekends it's a chore to fit in. I'm going to make some plans to remedy this in the morning. Goodnight all.
Pass #4 See everyone tomorrow.1 -

3.5 mile walk. Track and was under calories. @craigo3154 you are so right about the importance of good shoes, but that's not the issue with these old knees. Abuse on the ski hill is. I noticed you competitively skated. I slalom raced from age 23 to 36. Please don't visualize Lindsey Vonn!!! Oh no. Just club racing on the hills south of Buffalo N.Y. I've had my knees scoped to clean out the floating cartilage and my ACL replaced. Of course like an idiot I still ski, but at a much easier pace!! My orthopedic Dr owns a running store and I wear recommended shoes even for every day errands.5

Yes x3. SL 5x5 and an evening swim with the kids.3

@conchita962, wow! 6 lbs congratulations!
Yes x3 for me today.4 -
Heh! I been incommunicado for about a week or so.
No internet. No cell or data. Heh, no electricity.
So here I sit wondering what to say about my tracking or the legitimacy of my tracking.
Tracking and budget
Well I started tracking in the grocery store while assembling a food box. My wife and I agreed that we would only eat out of the food box for the whole trip. We allocated a meal plan or like a menu kind of.
So guess what? We ended up bringing food home.
So for tracking and budget can I say yes for a 7 day increment?
Exercise
All I can say is man o man! I set up a camp in a forest campground at 10,200 feet. Heart and lungs had something to say about that. But I acclimated.
In the morning I would get up and drive to a trailhead that was at 12,800 feet. Hey, let's just round that to 13,000 shall we? Then I would ride my bike and in 90 minutes I would get to 14,200 feet. I did 4 repetitions of that on 4 consecutive days.
I wore my heart rate monitor and got all of the data saved in Strava.
Didn't really run my heart flat out as you would expect. Mostly just shy of 80%.
I got all kinds of PR's for those segments but this is the first trip I have done with a GPS fitness tracker. So yeah, you get PR's when you first start keeping track. But still, 90 minutes to climb 1,400 feet at that altitude isn't too shabby.
And that don't count hiking.
I went hiking a time or two on a trail that trail runners frequent.
That can be weird. I am a guy that kind of likes to have hiking sticks for them places where my balance questions me.
Well, I forgot to take my hiking sticks. So the long story shortens to I was going down this boulder in the trail and I didn't see where to put my feet. So I do this unglamorous descending style that is reminiscent of a toddler descending stairs. In other words sliding on my butt. Trail runner girl just jumps right over me and lands on the top of another boulder! I wish I had a movie of that. Them trail runners got some spectacular moves in them. How about we envision a cross of runners jumping hurdles with ballet dancers. Jumping across the tops of rocks an a trail that traverses a boulder field. I gotta find a youtube that shows that.
Heh, and I lost some pounds. I am going to watch the scale for a couple of days just to make sure it is for real.
I think I will put a picture and do the show and tell thing. The road snakes up a mountain. Climbing, boring, just listen to climbing playlist and try to top out before the end of playlist.
Descending, you can really rip on those straight sections. But look at that hairpin turn. I don't know if this photo resolves it or not but there is a shoulder there but beyond that is a cliff. At first glance it looks like that hairpin is bounded by a big rock. But that rock is on the other side of a gorge.
So, test your brakes early on is what they say.
But that is fun and I can't even begin to describe it. I got to write it all down in case my memory fizzles.

In a rush today so it's a yes x 3 for me3

A good day. Weights at the gym, 60 minute brisk walk, tracked and just a few calories to spare.4
-
Pass Day 4. Not going to be in the winner's circle. But I'll continue the challenge.5

Late check in for yesterday. Not a good day for me generally. Weather was terrible, torrential rain. Work was really tough, have to work over the weekend to get through the requests I received. Weather was so bad they started closing roads and declaring states of emergency in towns in the east of the south island which means I had to cancel our planned weekend away which was my birthday present to my husband.
But despite all this I managed a yes x3 for this challenge which I'm really proud of (it was close though)3 -
Pass Day1
