Everyone says it, but just how do you do it? How do you take the guidelines of the WW program and turn them into a lifestyle you can live every day...from now on? That is what we are here to explore. Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion. Newbie? Join in! Veteran? Join in! Your thoughts may be just what someone else needs to hear.

Today's topic: Monday, Monday

Well, the question that's plagued great minds since 1966: Monday, Monday, can you trust this day or not? Are you glad to be out of the weekend and back to a regular routine? Or are you dreading a busy schedule? How about the office donuts? Is any other day of the week just fine? Does the calendar even have anything to do with you weight loss/maintenance?

Bonus trivia question: What was the the Mamas & the Papas only #1 hit? No peeking.

So I forgot our campus is being taken over by a state sports team. Multiple roads are closed and I forgot my special parking pass at home which meant I was running around like a mad woman (and ended up being 30 minutes late to work). This is probably currently clouding my opinion of Mondays ;)

I'm good with routine, but Mondays tend to be a bit jarring getting back into it from the relaxation of the weekend. I definitely do better during week days then on weekends because I only eat what I bring to work and I usually have stuff going on in the evenings to keep me away from the fridge.

And I'm showing my age, but I have no idea who that band is (but I would probably recognize the song once someone names it).

I recognize the name of the band but would have to cheat and use Google to name the song.

Dang, it is Monday already? I had to work on Saturday part of the day so I feel like I got cheated on my weekend. I live for my weekends. The weekdays provide the income so that I can go on my weekend adventures.

As far as food goes, there really isn't much difference between weekdays and weekends. I just eat more on weekends if I have long endurance adventures to fuel.

I'm off this coming weekend for more Wisconsin adventures (30K trail event on Saturday, 65 mile very hilly bike ride) so I'm very focused this week at knocking out enough work tasks so that next Monday isn't too painful.

It's either Monday Monday or California Dreamin'...

And I look forward to Monday because I enjoy routine  Starting my week off on Monday with maintaining my routine I find I can relax more on the weekend when there's a little less structure. Mondays rule!

Monday Monday I remember the song well. Mamas and the Papas Mama Cass life cut short kinda sad. Don't remember if that was their number one hit but and now going to go and peek.

Monday's for me are well back on schedule. Being self employed I'm on my own time but routine is always best. The weekend sometimes brings work sometimes not so I never know. I do tend to kick back and have more time to plan so this weekend for example went really well for me. DW and I found a great new doggie care for our Yorkie on Monday's which is a day DW travels to work an hour away so that upsets our normal routine. She is also self employed and we both juggle our schedules to get things done on Monday.

As far as food is concerned Monday Sunday Wednesday their all about the same for me. I need to plan out what I'm going to eat no matter what's happening. We're having a church function tonight and bbq going to be served so I'll be making plans around that as well as she.

We do on Saturday's and Sunday's try and figure out our schedules for the week but Monday can bring all sort of surprises in my business so it can get upside down if I'm not careful. By in large it's just another day.

Dang I know that band. I always liked the European calendar idea of Monday being the first day of the week because well for most of us it is. Being retired it is mostly just another day in the realm of food and activity. Even when working and bulging up to being obese my eating didn'[t vary that much day to day (too much). I might have even eaten a bit more and more treats during the "work week" anyway. I need to get an organized bike event on my calendar. My buddies have just been lax that way. Yeah multiple roads closed around here too.

I'll answer this when I get some more coffee. Mondays and I have a complicated relationship.

Being retired since 2010 Monday has changed to being the first day of just another week. I do think "three day to WI" and look forward to making my Thursday AM WI a good one.

My guess on Bonus question is "Leaving on a Jet Plane". I did NOT google, O remember the Mama's & Papa's very well. I graduated High School 1966 and they were at their peak!

    #1 hit was Monday Monday

My challenge is social events so Monday's are easier if we are at home.

Just came back from a week of vacation on a dive boat.Let's just say lots of food and drink. Sigh. Time to get back on it. I hope the scale is showing just a temporary weight gain.

Do you remember the Urban Legend that Mama Cass died choking on a ham sandwich?

    According to Wikipedia

An oft-repeated urban legend is that Elliot choked to death on a ham sandwich.[38][39] The story spread soon after the discovery of her body and was based on speculation in the initial media coverage. A 2014 article in the publication Haaretz identified the person who started the false rumor as follows: "Unfortunately, the first doctor [in London] who examined her speculated to the press about the cause of death, and that’s the version that stuck."[40] An autopsy had not been performed when the doctor commented, and London police told reporters that a partially eaten sandwich found in her room might have been to blame. The post-mortem examination found that Elliot had died of heart failure, and no food was present in her windpipe,[41][33] yet the false story has persisted ever since.

Monday - I have some pros/cons as far as WL go.

    Pro:
Back to work routine.. easier to eat on schedule, because my work life dominates the day. Wake up, eat standard weekday breakfast... work... eat standard workday lunch.. home - and the only real variance in my food is at dinner time, which gives me a fair amount of wiggle room, as I typically leave myself 800-900 cals to play with before adding any exercise.

    Con:
Time: My weekends tend to be fairly structured around cooking, shopping, workouts, and family activities... but they are mostly relaxed, and allow for things like personal down time with a book, an extra workout, decent sleep, and just all around de-stressing.

    Then comes Monday.

During the week, my time breakdown is 9 hours work, 2.5 hours commute, 4 hours meals and family time, 1.5 hour workout, 30 minutes shower/hygiene, and the remainder is sleep. There is no wiggle room.. If I want extra time to workout, I have to steal it from some other activity, priorities dictate that it will have to be work or sleep - and since work frowns on me stealing time.. I have this delicate balance of trying to find time to work out vs. getting enough sleep.

This transition from somewhat freeform, easy going weekend with lots of cooking and eating healthy, working out to a crammed schedule gives me way too many excuses as far as food choices go:

"Too tired to cook tonight.. let's eat out"
"Too full from eating out.. skip the workout"
"Woke up late, no time to eat a good breakfast."
"Stressful day at work - let's eat lots of comfort food"

The only thing I've found that helps is the routine. I have a plan... it's the same plan I do every weekday, and I try to make it work on auto pilot. That gets me from waking up until dinner time, at least... the rest takes a bit of discipline to cook even when I'm tired, and to work out on schedule.

Well, retired now, Monday doesn't mean much. My Pilates instructor likes to schedule me on Monday, but that's just the luck of the draw.

When working I used to feel a bit of WW relief on Monday. I did better with more structure. Retired I still do better with more structure.

I'm reminded that at one time there was a fire in our office building. I ended up working at home. I would have never made goal working at home.

Didn't think of it at first, but it looks like poor Cass died of obesity. Heart failure at 33. Is it unfair to connect those dots?

Monday Monday was #1, Agree California Dreamin' is a better song.

    Penalty!!!!

"Leaving on a Jet Plane" was written by John Denver and it was Peter, Paul and Mary who sang it to the top of the charts. Although it was, indeed, their only #1 song.

On the question, Monday offers certain benefits- having had the time, I have prepared lunches and some prepared dinners for the next few days. And, there is less down time. For a boredom eater, this is helpful.

OTOH, I like my weekends. If I've got a lot going on, I'm fine. If it's a real 'lay low' kind of weekend, I can easily get into trouble. Same is true of a really slow day at the office- although these are rare.

Well, apparently rainy days and Mondays do get me down! However, as a general rule the weekends are too short and Mondays do in fact bring a bit of a letdown as the start of a new work week. Less time for other, more enjoyable things.

Weight-wise however, I don't cast them as bad actors. They're another day on my plan. I don't tend to go too crazy with food and drink during the weekend so I don't generally feel like there's any significant reigning-in to be done. My partner often does our shopping on Mondays (early). If I was doing it, I would definitely look at like a necessary evil chore but she likes shopping! (Who knew there are people who do???) All in all, I can't get too jazzed about Monday vs any other day from a weight management perspective.

I chuckled at this because my husband seems to love to do grocery shopping as well. Over the course of the week he will make the rounds of Wal-Mart, Target, Jewel, etc. It is the rare day when a store isn't visited. That would drive me nuts! I make 1-2 trips per week to Trader Joe's to restock and that is more than enough interaction with stores for me.
