Side effect - weight gain! Calling chronic illness sufferers

I rattled with meds for my nasty chronic illness. Every single one had weight gain as a side effect, so I'm proud that I only put on 20kg in the last 12 months. But I'm now in remission (horrah!), off my meds and so the weight has to go! I'd love to team up with anyone in a similar situation to share our weight and non weight victories!

I went swimming today and felt really good in the water. Joints are aching but no stabbing pains which is excellent! Hopefully I will sleep tonight although will take some pain relief just to be sure! No weight loss but certainly a win for getting into the pool and not breaking!!

I tend to gain weight when my AI issues flare up. It's a double whammy: my metabolism seems to slow a bit and I eat more for more energy. Not good. LOL

Just wanted yo wish you luck! :)

Right there with you! AI illness sufferer here, plus a host of other issues. Battling a pulled muscle and shoulder flare up as we speak. So, now I'm walking for exercise 3-4 days a week instead-and now 16 pounds down in two months thanks to low carb. We can do it!

Hi SunshineRey and nvmomketo, hope you are doing OK! Yes AI are complete crap, leg keep swelling at the moment so exercise is reserved for the swimming pool! I swam today and did 2.7km. I tried some sprints and the good news is I had it in me, but having only been back in the water for 4 weeks, I have no stamina!! Ate well today and don't feel as sick as yesterday so all in all a good day!!

    How is the shoulder today?

Brought some posh soap from Lush so off for a pampering soak!!

Good for you with the sprints and swim! It's little by little isn't it? The fatigue is the worst part of AI disease to me. My shoulder is somewhat better, thank you. I can't tell if it's a pulled muscle or a flare. May have to go see my doctor to help figure it out if it doesn't get better soon.

With a side of depression. Don't forget that little chronic pain treat.

I have MS. I gained 20 lbs on my previous meds. (Like pp, struggling with fatigue/low energy didn't help the situation!) Going LCHF definitely helped.

Morning all!! Got in the pool this morning and I have to say I felt OK. It was an easy swim to build up the distance. Still can't do walking or running as legs blow up, but happy with the water at the moment!! Paranoid that I'm heading towards a flare as work is stacking it on!

They don't tell you about this bit do they!! They treat the physical bits but forget about the mental bit! I came off my antidepressants a couple of months ago and I have to say I'm finding it tough! Doesn't help when people say 'pull yourself together, be thankful for what you can do!' Grrrrr, I'd wager they'd have a different attitude if their body started misbehaving!!

Rant over!! I'd love to hear how you are all getting on. Im saving my weigh in for tomorrow. I will post the results!

Have a relaxing weekend and be kind to yourself xxxx

One day at a time. And do the best you can. That's all you're expected to do. Love yourself and let things go. Breathe, sleep, rest and recover.

Jessica, you're so right. It's one day at a time. I have got to get access to the pool in my town. I know it's probably one of the best exercises for those of us with chronic pain. I've been walking but been having a rough week with the shoulder. It's still not better. The good news is I'm still losing, down another 1.5 pounds this week, so that's good. Treating myself to some vanilla Halo Top tonight :). Hope everyone has a great Sunday!

After LCHF managed my chronic pain from my Ankylosing Spondylitis chronic illness in just 30 days my weight started dropping 45 days after I started this WOE and I have maintained for two years.

Best of success at finding the best way to eat in your case.

Feeling OK, although very tired and body is sore, but the good news is bloods for not indicate a flare!! Today is a sofa day of epic proportions!!

Did anyone else have a weigh in today?

What is your non weight victory?

Mine is my baby sister got engaged last night and I'm so happy for her!! Feeling happy somehow reduces the pain a bit.... Weird body!!

Gale Hawkins, stories like yours keep me going! Congrats on your success! A good friend of mine has AS, and she says it is NOT easy. Hats off to you!

Woot, Victoria! Congrats on the weight loss! So fantastic and well done! That's also great news about your flare and also your sisters engagement :)

Thank you! Oh man, Halo Top has been a savior for hubs and I to stay on track. It's a low carb ice cream made with erithrytol, stevia, and just the tiniest bit of cane sugar. One serving of vanilla has 5 net carbs, a healthy serving of protein, and very low calories! They have all kinds of flavors. So far the vanilla is my favorite. Here's the link. https://www.halotop.com/. It's a great sometimes treat. Well I'm off to get ready for the day! Here's to a great week!
