Drove out of Key West to mainland without incident. Currently lodged in Jupiter FL, about 30 miles north of West Palm Beach. Would like to get some idea of where Irma is going before we move again. Atlanta is looking good.
Much thanks to everyone for your kind words and support.

Hope you can stay far enough ahead of it, @88olds !0

Glad you got out of the Keys. That can be a traffic mess. Rooms in Atlanta will fill up quickly.1

Likewise, stay safe0

Amen. Stay safe.0

Glad you were able to get further north and found a place to hunker down0

Current models have it skirting east coast, I'd try to get to I10 and go west of Tallahassee.0

I'm in Gainesville, hotels in this area are now full.0

@0ysterboy As a matter of fact we're in Marianna, about 60 miles west of Tallahassee. Weather Channel is drawing the zone of danger to cover the entire state and north through Kentucky
The roads were jammed. People are scared.
Yet there are loads of people on a KW FB page I follow who are staying. Some people I know there never even considered leaving.
Highest point in KW is 18 ft above sea level I think. That's probably the highest point in the Keys. Things are going to be different if this turns out to be as bad as they say.0 -
Current models make it look like all of Florida is in trouble, but then once it hits Ga it turns more inland so stay closer to the east coast, maybe somewhere like Charleston SC and you should be out of danger.

@Olds, know Marianna well, MIL lives in Fort Walton Beach. I think you are in the perfect place, I think you are likely to see the storm but you should be far from the worst of it. People stayed in KW? The news last night was saying that surge could get to 15'.
Things are getting ugly here in G'ville. No gas, grocery stores are wiped out, and seems like there are 5X the normal number of cars. Took me 1:20 to get home from work last night, normally a 15-20 min drive. We are well inland so we will see no storm surge and flooding should be minimal but my bet is that lots of trees will come down. We are getting prepared for 2-3 days with no power. Oh, an they cancelled the Gator football game on Sat (yes, the apocalypse must be close...)

There was an infamous reform school in Marianna, not that I've ever been there.0

Glad to hear that Dennis. Stay safe all in harms way wherever you may be.0
