Everyone says it, but just how do you do it? How do you take the guidelines of the WW program and turn them into a lifestyle you can live every day...from now on? That is what we are here to explore. Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion. Newbie? Join in! Veteran? Join in! Your thoughts may be just what someone else needs to hear.

TOTD: Goals, to set, or not to set. That is the question.

QOTD: Do you set weight goals? If so: Long term or short term, and why? If not, why?

I do set a goal range. My "goal" for WW was 169--the top of my BMI range. I stayed there for awhile but really, it still felt like too much for me (even though I lived for a long time in the 240 range). I re-set my WW / Maintenance goal to 166 but still preferred the lower side of what was required for the Lifetime status: 163-164. While expressing these objectives in terms of the scale number, it was really the mobility and other benefits that went along with it that I'm shooting for.

For me, a range is a better objective than an absolute weight. Right now (and for the past few weeks), I'm a couple pounds over where I'd prefer to be. While it doesn't feel optimal, I'm not freaking out about it either. I know there's a little more measuring and weighing I could be doing. However, the wee bit of flexibility and normalcy I get from eyeballing a few things helps me live the lifestyle. As long as the trajectory is pretty even-keeled, I'm OK here for a while even though it's just a tad above my preference. If it wears on me and I feel I really need to drop down, I'm confident I can do it. What I could not tolerate is an endless upward trend.

Lifetime in my mind is just that. This is a long-term gig for me. I accept that and thus am satisfied that the fluctuation of a few pounds in the larger context of my total weight loss is lifestyle-manageable. I feel like if I can hang around this range, I'm way better off and able to "easily" navigate this weight compared to my old one.

I set mini and long range goals. My mini goals are at 5 lb increments. I've always been a slow loser, even when I was a runner. It helps me to have short term goals. I also set a long term goal that gets adjusted. I don't put a timeline on it.

I also set behavior goals such as fish twice a week, drink more water, be mindful at happy hour and so on. I'm trying to set good habits for life.

I don’t tend to set goals, at least not hard and fast number of pounds ones. More like” let’s see if we can be lower at the end of this month”. (Failing miserably at this of late.)
Probably should start doing this after I recuperate. I do expect a loss over the recovery, so “see you on the down side”.
While I'm recuperating, LTL Calvin2008Brian will do next week's LTL for me, and gadgetgirlIL is doing the 22nd. I hope to be back be the 29th.

I do set goals both long term and short term. Executing and staying on course is a subject of discussion for another day. If I do miss a goal I just reset and continue on. The long term weight goal hasn't changed since the beginning of my journey.

I do have a goal for my weight. Short term is to stay below my WW goal weight. Long term is to return to my happy (green zone) weight. Getting back to green is proving elusive :-( I'm pulled in a lot of directions at work and that shows no signs of abating for at least another year. I seem to be short on the mental energy to deal both with work challenges as well as with modifying my behavior patterns to get back to my green zone.

I set weekly goals (lose 1#), and I try to really visualize my last weigh in, and next weigh in showing that new goal #... it sets me up for the day.

I also set mid-range goals for each 10 lb increment, so my next is 160... no time frame on this, just a milestone to be reached.

I have a long term goal of reaching ideal weight at 150. Again - no time limits, just a place to begin maintenance, which I plan to keep as a 150-155 range.

For the past two years I have set a goal to lose a pound a week by participating in the #52poundsin52weeks challenge on MFP.
2016 I lost 37#, the weekly struggle to lose ONE pound keeps me focused on staying on plan.
2017 I have lost 31 so far and have 16 weekly WIs left.

My long term goals have been get the WW charm for each 25#. I just got my -175 charm.
My next three WL/ Scale goals are:
    1. Get below 200 ( CW 200.2)
    2. At 196 I will weigh below Obese BMI
    3. Set official Goal Weight with my PCP.
Reach WW Goal and earn Lifetime

Mostly no goals except to keep on keepin' on. If I do the program the weight sorta takes care of itself so to speak. I have no idea how much or how soon I would lose but needed the change. Sure like others I celebrated every decade of pounds. Getting below 200 LB for me was a nice feeling in my mind. My main goal was to be persistent I think.
