Our area has a strain of the flu virus that is going around that hit HARD. I was down for the entire week last week, my husband the week before, and my bay grandson this week. They are prescribing ibuprofen, fluids when you can, iv's when you can't, and dissolvable Zofran for nausea. All in all, not a fun time.

I forgot to add in my post that we wandered around our county fair for a little over 6 hours and 5 miles, in the rain, and had a good time. The same vendors, some were in different places, and it was nice people watching.1

Congratulations going out to Power0304 and anaconda on making goal!
@Lisah8969 - happy to year you survived Hurricane Irma too. We got so lucky!
@sufferlandrian - what a scary story. I hope you are healing. Be well.
@k80flec - love the photo! Yes it is full of joy! And I love the story about the 78 year old runner.
@sussexbythesea - nothing like a trip to the city to get in some walking miles. It reminds me that I should book the miles I walked in New York this week!
@kar328 - great job on running the whole 5k. I would be very happy with that time!
@wanderan - love the new profile pic!
@willnevergiveup - so sorry to hear about your MIL. Take care of yourself. You can worry about miles later.
@smudgiemfp - welcome! I guess I was taking a little "MFP vacation" when you joined.
As for me, I've been struggling. Between my MIL being in the hospital, the hurricane, having a deadline for a big project, and coming down with a cold, I've logged very few miles. But I'm happy to say I'm feeling better now and even did a beautiful 3 mile run in Central Park when I was in New York a couple of days ago. So I hope things are getting back to normal and I'll be getting back in the green soon.
Have a great weekend!4 -
Hooray!!! Rain is coming Sunday night (so they say), we are going to get a drenching (so they say), will last 2 days (so they say). Sorry Portland weather news, I will believe it when I see it, cuz you have not hit it right yet

@kar328 - an excellent time for your 5k - a very respectable VF50-54 Copper on our club standards... my 5k today took 60:16 today. I was tail walking/running with a lady who was 78 years young and apologising the whole way for keeping me. I had to point out my Vol bib and the fact that the label said 'tail walker'!
[/quote]
What exactly is tail walking? Tried googling it,but didn't see anything. And good for the 78 year old running. I ended up at 31:40, slower than I've been, but I'm good with it. I enjoy seeing all the kids running, some do the 5K, then the kids 1 mile run after. The little darlings run off like they're playing and are back in 7-8 mins. Today's winner did his mile in 6:55. It's good to see kids not on their phones/electronics.

"The Tail Walker stays right at the back of the field and should be the last person to cross the finish line ensuring that everyone is accounted for.
They are encouraged to carry a mobile phone in case of emergencies.
They let any marshal out on the course know that they can collect nearby signs and leave their post.
This role is compulsory in the UK but please note that not all events in our parkrun world have a tail walker.
Volunteers undertaking this role receive both a run credit and a volunteer credit."

Thanks. That's what I thought. Last spring I did a 4 mile race at the university my hospital is located on. They also follow it with a ten mile race. This year they decided you could get a special medal for doing both races but had to have a 40 min max time for the four miler in order to get to the start line on time. They stuck someone on the course and the back of her shirt said something like "you have to be ahead of me to run both."

The smoke is finally clearing here and I'm working a 62 hour shift. Doesn't seem fair. Darnit.
@Janet - That crash on my motorbike was years ago. I healed up from that long ago and have treated myself to other injuries like getting hit by the car on my bicycle. Currently all healed but I just can't get out because of the smoke from the forest fires.0 -

Did the Lancaster Castle 10k today - starting and ending in a medieval castle. Still full of the cold type virus 9 days in - I felt really ropey after 5k/3m. Did the last 3.2m run/walk (walked about 20% - going by the lamp-posts). Very pleased with my time of 1:12:55 (or therabouts - times not published yet.)

All of you runners are my heroes!!! I pass runners everyday on my rides. I did a '5k run' in July got 50 ft then walked the rest of the way. For whatever reason there is no run in my legs. So congrats on all you runners, you have my admiration and respect

The road bike goes to the shop tomorrow, to get it ready for the turbo. My 6AM ride this morning was way to cold for my arthritis. And our first rain in 100 days has shown up, time to start some indoors work.

Here's hoping for decent weather tomorrow. I can handle the rain, I don't like the wind but I'll ride in it. I can't ride in the smoke.1
