Class and Practice Check in - Week of 10/30/2017

As martial artists who are also members of a WL and fitness website, it can be helpful for us to remain accountable to each other, and share training ideas.
Any time you participate in class, or practice out side of class, post here and let everyone know. You can write something as simple as "Went to sparring class... got my licks in", or get into as much detail on the practice as you'd like.
This post gets rebuilt every week, to remind us to approach each practice/training/class with a fresh perspective:
- It doesn't matter how hard you worked yesterday... what matters is what you do today.

I normally try and get to kids class to roll with one of the mom's. Today just before I left home my coach messaged me and told me to bring my gi (I normally do no gi then). When I got there he told me that I could help with kids class instead if I wanted! Assistant Coach Dory! WooHoo, it was so much fun.2

My boys and I got a private lesson tonight thanks to no one else turning up to class. I got to spar with sensei, which is a really rare thing!1

My class was missing a few people too. Besides forms, we did a lot of pad kicking and punching. I see I still have to go light on my roundhouse and crescent kicks. Front kicks were fine. I can do the moves, just can't get any force in there without feeling a bit tender.0

And today, my legs are like mush from my lunch TRX workout. I focused on arms and legs-mainly squats and one legged squats (from PT homework).1

Back to basics last night - worked on white through yellow belt material, with a strong focus on round kicks.
Worked on pivot, posture, knee position, balance, control. Through this, I noticed that my right leg bias is much stronger than I thought it was previously, determined that the majority of the issue appears to be lack of hip and core strength on the left side, and have made a goal to make that side better (though I'm not 100% sure what exactly that means yet).0 -
Karate/Muay Tai sparring class tonight. I sparred with a couple people I haven’t been paired with before and learned a ton. We did 15 minutes of intervals at the end with weights and medicine balls. I’m definitely going to feel it tomorrow!1

No sparring last night, we had an awesome warm-up taken by one of our low grades who has previously trained in MMA - I was happy that I got to the end of it without dying, and double happy because some people I think of as fitter than me couldn't complete it. But then I spent the next hour teaching kata to lower grades so I felt like the warm up was wasted.
Sunday training is cancelled for Bonfire Night but one of the 3rd Dan ladies has offered to come to Monday class to go through all of my grading material because I only have one week and I feel like I'm going backwards!1 -
Continued basics work last night, working on 2 more forms, with the focus being on side kick. Definitely a lot of work to do here... its amazing that no matter how much work I put into them, there is always more to do.0

practiced at home last night. this week has been terrible for classes as I've been working late. but just starting to learn wushu straight sword basics - so going slow and getting used to how it feels!1

i skipped thurs class because I was working late and i couldn't face having another semi-private w/o having practiced. i'm going in for the 2 hr class today that usually has a bunch of children in it. i'm super tense from an intense work week and life stuff so i'm just pacing myself. stretching extra before i go because it's getting cold here and i'm paranoid about pulling another leg muscle!1

I took 2 days of of practice and missed black belt class due to family commitments
Back at it tonight though.1
