Everyone says it, but just how do you do it? How do you take the guidelines of the WW program and turn them into a lifestyle you can live every day...from now on? That is what we are here to explore. Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion. Newbie? Join in! Veteran? Join in! Your thoughts may be just what someone else needs to hear.

As we face the last eight weeks of the year do you have any goals you are trying to meet by 31 Dec? Do you review (or even remember) the 2017 goals (either WL or personal goals) you set for yourself last January?
Will you attempt to meet your WL/personal goals or just get through the Holidays and restart in 2018?

For the past two years I have been in a Lose 52 pounds in 52 weeks challenge. Last year I lost 36# this year I am at -36# now and know I will not meet the 52# mark but will get above 40# if I close out the year LTL. That goal of a "simple" pound a week keeps me focused on how as someone said on here this week "It NEVER Ends!"
My personal goal of taking kayaking lessons was met but I never actually went kayaking on my own due to fear of my knee giving out. I may try that next year, I am getting PT for my knee now.

Hang in there Jim. At one point my dentist lost 50 lb in 2 years and was pleased. He kept it off too.
You should make over 40 lb. Yes??
Activity wise I think of annual bike mileage as having a "standard" I am happy exceeding. Any year I ride 3000 miles and up is a joy. I am over 3100 miles this year which is great with no really long rides (longest days about 40 miles but really a lot of 8 to 13 mile days).
I am lucky I joined WW near Halloween and lost over fall and winter time. I am fortunate not to have the wait til January experience. As a maintainer my weight range standard is the same year to year so far ok.

Same goal as in previous years -- to weigh no more on 12/31 of this year than I did on 12/31 of last year. This year I would like to weigh LESS than I did last year.2

Met with the Dr to review my blood work. 1st time ever my cholesterol was up. Now I have to cut back on my favorite food, the egg, to see if we can lower the number.
Also, going to ween off sleep meds.
Can I do this without gaining? We'll see.

This year has been a struggle for me, and I have slacked on things that I should be applying myself to. Exercise is about nonexistent. Naturally my goal was to lose, but I had a lot of detours along the way and got lost. I am slowly finding my way back. I still have 8 wks. to make modifications and move forward.1

Ideally I like to maintain this time of year. I at most gain 1-2lbs in prior years, usually when we stay with my SO's family for an extended period of time. This year he has to work so that likely won't be as much of a problem.
If this were a perfect world, I'd be in weight loss mode but I'm too much of a realist to expect that around the holidays.1 -
I had made activity goals in January. Issues with my back (psoas) in early April derailed my running mileage goals and I also lost motivation to get into the pool more when flipturns were triggering my psoas to lock up.
But I have already exceeded my biking mileage goal. Was hoping for 1,500 miles but am closing in on 1,800 miles and still plan to get more rides in this month and December. I bought studded tires for my heavy bike so I'd feel safer if we get snow/ice this winter.
I also have hiked more of the Ice Age Trail than planned. I hoped to reach the 200 mile mark (total since I started in my quest to do the entire trail of close to 1,200 miles) but am already at 224 miles and plan to get at another hike this month as well as December.
I finally got more serious about my weight training the middle of last month and feel confident I can keep up with 4 solid workouts per week over the winter. I've got a short but steep climb on one of the newer bike trails I've ridden recently that I haven't been able to get up without walking. I'm determined to make it up that hill in 2018 without walking!
As for my weight, I'd hoped to be back at my personal goal, but that hasn't happened. Old eating patterns of coping with work-related stress have resurfaced and at this point I'm just happy to stay right under my WW goal weight.2 -
88 Olds sorry about your cholesterol. I know mine is simply hereditary and no dietary changes really help it. My triglycerides come down but not my cholesterol numbers. Meds don't seem to change it enough to make up for the side effects either I think.
GadgetgirlIL I like the idea of studded snow tires. I have some myself for my hybrid. Does great on snow and ice but would like wider tires when it gets deeper or rutty.0 -

I would like to finish out the 160's by years end. I have 8 weeks... I need to drop 7 lb.
I didn't set my year end goals in January... I rebooted in March. Also they weren't really calendar year goals, though as the months went by I found myself starting to put timelines on the goals... which I think might be a mistake. I don't want to focus on end of year, as I really want to focus on TODAY... the goals are juts milestones, but living the way I want to live today is much more important to me than that.
When I set my original goals back in march, I wanted to drop 20% of my body weight, compete in at least 2 tournaments, receive permission for testing for 5th dan.
Since then, I've dropped my weight goal another 5 lb to give myself a "maintenance range", and I'm contemplating more competition, and maybe... just maybe, thinking about national tournaments.

“I'm contemplating more competition, and maybe... just maybe, thinking about national tournaments.”
What sport/activity is this in? Just curious.
As for weight loss goals tied to a time frame there is the theory that that leads to failure. I agree with that especially when I see very unrealistic time/goals.0 -

Well when I started the year I set a 26 lb loss. Wanted more but would have been happy there. At this point if I can make it back to where I started the first of the year I will be happy. I am not close to any of lat year goals. Completely lost focus this year but doing my best to stay tuned in. Got my mind right at this point. I am not willing to just say I will start over in 2018 at this point since I need to lose 20 lbs by the end of the year.1

This whole thing is an exercise in continuity for me. At times that feels a little lame but due to some other circumstances, sometimes I feel like I'm doing pretty darn good to tread water and continue to maintain my weight at my smaller size. The important thing to me is to use that body to do good and satisfying things.
For now, I have no year-end goals other than to come through it as committed to staying the course as I went into it.2
