I want to echo what others have said about how diet and exercise are personal choices, not some external set of rules.
Years ago, my boss had dropped a few pounds. He told me that his doctor had told him he was at a crossroads, that he could have a rather sedentary seventh decade and retirement, or he could choose a more active lifestyle. Suddenly I realized that I too was at a crossroads and could improve my life. When I get discouraged, I try to go back to that insight and sense of empowerment.7 -

No one should deprive themselves. I don't believe that a strict diet is a good strategy to become healthy unless cutting out specific foods is medically necessary (allergies, digestive illnesses, etc.). I joke with people often that I workout, so that I can eat. This is partly true. Exercising definitely balances some extra snacks here and there. However, I don't find that I reach for unhealthy foods that often anymore either. Throughout the last few years, I focused on adjusting one eating habit at a time, such as eat more fruit, eat more vegetables, eat less sugar, and eat less bread. I only worked on one of these goals at a time, and I didn't punish myself if I wasn't successful everyday. Eventually, these changes became habit.
I hope everyone is forgiving with themselves and enjoys a doughnut every so often! Everything in moderation5 -
Well today is Pass Day #1 because I ate too many donuts.
Your post made me laugh!2 -
Good discussion today. It is all about choices, isn't it? I made two great choices today and am happy to not be having a "pass" day today.

I am delighted at your response to today’s opening post!
The UAC is so different than the extreme and unsustainable challenges and fad programs that most people turn to for a quick fix.
There are no quick fixes!
Regarding wheat and me: I love the taste but it is definitely inflammatory in my body system.
Regarding tracking: when I track what I ingest, I make thoughtful decisions and do not gain weight.
Today I was thoughtful:
Exercise: walking on treadmill

I made it through today with a triple yes for the challenge! After a fast paced day with no breaks, I had enough wiggle room to end the day with a celebratory drink. Tomorrow should be a breeze compared to today!5

I eat what I want but portion sizes are key for me. I stick vehemently to portion and serving sizes to ensure I stay (usually) under my calorie goal. I also weigh and measure a lot of my food daily.
On another note, our visitor has turned out to be a lot of fun and very interesting. He’s moving to Belize for a business venture and I think we will go for a visit. Could be a potential retirement country…4 -
