Everyone says it, but just how do you do it? How do you take the guidelines of the WW program and turn them into a lifestyle you can live every day...from now on? That is what we are here to explore. Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion. Newbie? Join in! Veteran? Join in! Your thoughts may be just what someone else needs to hear.

Topic: Has your focus on improving your weight caused you to look at other areas of your life to see what you can do to improve them, as well?

WW meetings have given me wider interactions and social perspective. Better self image. Working more on yoga and improving. Too embarrased to try yoga in class when 60 lb overweight.

Oddly I think mine goes the other way. My success and focus with financial budgeting helps me with tracking and staying within my calorie range.

Without poking to deeply into your world, can you expand on this a bit, Rachel?

I do not attend meetings I'm an on line member only. I will have to answer that question yes. It's given me discipline in other areas of my life in as much as offI can stay on track and keep looking at my ultimate goal and stay motivated to reach it then It helps me relate to my busyiness career and social life. Not that I have that much of a social life.

As far as improving myself I do think it helps me as I find myself relating my WW journey success as well as failures.

Overcoming the failures in WW may be more help than the success in that the struggles with my weight help me with other struggles in life. Lord knows there are plenty of struggles out there on a personal basis.

Yes, this time I have looked into improving my health. I pay attention to other factors beside the scale. Such as my blood sugar, now off all T2D Rx meds. Off Rx for high cholesterol. Reduced Rx meds for BP.

Also have explored new interests: took a kayaking lesson and two Tai Chi classes.

Now considering taking Life Long Learning classes, to keep mind and body improving. Local college offers a variety of classes.

Improving my weight even gaining some back has help with a much healthier eating habits but it also improved my social life and become a little more active and less of a couch potatoe.

For a long time there I would have said yes. Presently, not so much. Years ago, weight loss led to increased interest in running and I was very active with a local running club. I still belong to the club, but have pretty much given up on the sort of training they do because of injury. I feel like I've lost contact with some friends because of that and have thought about what I can do to replace that social activity.

Well, I don't have the drag of WL failure bleeding into other areas. A big plus.

I think I've finally come to appreciate incrementalism.

In more ways that I ever could have imagined. I'm constantly aware of how the lessons I've learned here apply to so many other parts of my life:

    Systems, not parts
    Patience
    Persistence
    Small "portions" over time
    Mindfulness

These aspects have so much applicability to the rest of my life!

"Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good"

Letting go of my need for perfection has served me well both with weight loss as well as other aspects of my life. I track everything, the good, the bad, and the truly ugly days. Adopting of mindset of "something is better than nothing" helps a lot with my physical activity as well as dealing with overwhelming projects at work. As long as I just keep chipping away, progress will be made even if not in the timeframe I originally hoped for.

I'm currently chipping away at a big document that is due next Friday as we are going through a thorough review of all of our of academic programs as some need to be cut due to budget problems. I'm trying to put forth the best case of why our program should continue even though our enrollment is much less than the glitzy programs offered by the business majors.
