Good morning everybody and Happy Monday!

Hope everybody is ready for the week and off to a good start! I pretty much have my Christmas shopping done. (I don't buy for many). So that is a nice thing to cross off my list! Just have to buy a little something as a housewarming gift for my sister and her husband. Otherwise, in pretty good shape.

Yesterday we skipped the gym but we did a fair amount of walking as we went in to New York City and met up with some friends. We drove in to where my guy's parent's live in the NY suburbs, then took the subway in from there. Much cheaper then taking the train round trip from where we live in CT. We went to a bar / restaurant and had some brunch and watched football. Drank light beer and water and didn't eat too too bad. Lots of fun to catch up with old friends. I think we also made plans with them for New Years which is cool. I think we will be heading up to Boston. Love that city. <3

Hope everybody is good! Light Day here. Made the new kale and quinoa salad again with blueberries and mangos, this time with a FULL bag of kale. Much bigger and better looking. Can't wait to dive in at lunch.

Will do strength training at the gym tonight after work, and will try and do a good walk after since I missed my usual treadmill time last night.

Have a good one! Here's to December goals! We got this! :#

No cats were harmed in the portrait session. Feline dignity, however, may have suffered fatal injury.

Doing my first fast day of the week. My whole body has been in revolt, which for me means I am tired and hungry. I think my body has enjoyed not being at 500cals for two weeks. I think a bit of retraining is in order. :#

@Meghan509 - Sounds like you had a great weekend. Loved reading about it. Reminded me that there is so much more to life than making the needle on the scale move. <3

@ryenday - Your cats are adorable! Now I am not a cat expert but it seems to me that any that puts the spotlight on the cat is welcome. Seems to me that being the subject of your camera is right were they want to be. B)

On the Jury Duty train this week. So if I don't report in you will know I am in a courthouse somewhere. Have a great week everyone!

    Good morning everybody!

Yesterday ended up being busy. Bah! I guess it is good because the day goes by faster!

Cool thing happened yesterday. My office gives us healthy rewards or points for completing a physical, getting a flu shot, and all that fun stuff. My colleague told me that I should log on to my account before year end because I had some points on there to use. Come to find out I had 85 points. Long story short, I chose to have my points switched over to $85 in Amazon credits. B) Very excited about that!

Yesterday's Light Day was good. No issues. Food was good. I have decided to take a break from putting celery in all of our soups and stews. I really don't like it and I don't like the way it can take over a dish. :( Last night I asked my guy if the soup tasted okay and he said yup good, tastes more tomatoey - I was like yes that is because the celery is gone! You can actually taste other stuff! Doh!

LOVE the cat pic @ryenday I am a crazy cat lady at heart. I had a beloved calico who passed away a few years back, who I still miss dearly. I am looking forward to seeing my mom's two crazy cats at Christmas. I grew up with cats and it is still strange not to have one as a pet, just easier for now with space and BF's allergies.

Good luck with jury duty @jknight001 I was picked a few years back for a trial and I have to say it was kind of fun and interesting! And it was a week off of work, which I didn't mind at the time. :p

Alrighty, been trying to hit reply on this for a while but keep getting side tracked! Have a good one and see you all soon!

You guys, work is killing me. I have carved out enough time to read and "like" or whatever, but I haven't had much time to actually comment. The good news is that it's hard to focus on hunger on light days when you're busy! The bad news is that the nights are very difficult with decompressing and the constant barrage of cookies and whatnot. Ugh. I try to keep that stuff out of the house as much as possible, but it's not always possible. I'm trying not to beat myself up, though, which is hard. I know it'll be a lot easier in the new year and am trying to keep my head above water, so to speak, until then!

@ryenday great shot of your cats! I admit to not being a "cat person", but that's not because they're not cute (and yours are, very much so). Long story short, my favorite cats have been cats that acted like dogs, as I am a huge "dog person" (we have six, if I hadn't mentioned it before). My husband and some other family members are allergic to cats, so we won't ever have any, despite my 6yo son's desire to adopt a cat. Instead he is asking Santa for another dog, and he just doesn't get how unusual and fortunate it is for a boy to have so many dogs. He also asked for a computer, an iPad, AND a phone. Not sure whom he'd call... Suffice it to say that he will just have to be happy with lots of books and Legos and, you know, clothes on his back and food on the table. But I digress.

@jknight001 Hopefully you will be dismissed from jury duty! And hopefully the lunches will be good :) I've only been called once (knock on wood) but didn't have to serve. My husband has been called a couple of times. Last year he was called for one of the big cases around here (I can't remember if it was Michael Slager or Dylann Roof, as both were going on at the same time), and I was surprised that he wasn't dismissed right off the bat given that one of our areas of practice is criminal defense. But years ago when I was in college, I worked for a restaurant in downtown Philly that handled the lunch orders for jurors. Let me tell you, if you ever do jury duty there, you will eat well!

@Meghan509 I can totally understand your removing celery from your soups/stews. I don't mind it, but it can take over dishes sometimes. That's how I feel about bell peppers. I am not a big fan of them, so I tolerate them in most dishes, but wow, do they take over a dish! I guess I've eaten enough frozen Lean Cuisines in my life to know that it's a cheap (calorie-wise) way to add flavor to a dish and would rather get flavor from other veggies and from spices. Also, that's fantastic about the Amazon credits!

Does anyone have any fun Christmas surprises up their sleeve? Any great gifts to be given or received? I don't have anything big or exciting to give, nor do I expect anything big or exciting, but it's fun to hear about what others are doing or giving/receiving. We already went to a Christmas festival this past Saturday, and we will go see at least two Christmas light displays in the area. Otherwise I may take the kids ice skating over break, which will be a first for them.

I hope everyone has a great day!

@RBXChas - With your schedule it was nice for you to take a minute and catch us up. I love when January 1st hits and life officially slows down! How wonderful that you all get lunch when you do jury duty.. I haven't actually been selected for a jury so I am not sure what they do for lunch. Since they only pay the jurors $5/day, I suspect lunch is NOT included. :)

@Meghan509 - I forgot to mention that fennel can be a good substitute for celery. Just as crunchy but a different, sweeter taste.

    Good morning everybody!!

@RBXChas hope work slows down a little for you! Busy can be good, as it helps make the time go by quicker and you don't think about 5:2 LOL but you'd rather be a little less busy - I hear you!
Girl, cookies are my weakness. We still do buy them and work them in on regular days. I LOVE sweets! If you are a Trader Joe's shopper then do try their "Dunker" cookies. We buy the chocolate chip with the chocolate backing. OMG so good. Calorie count is not bad for two, or you could have three and just add the calories like my guy does! And since it is TJ's there's no artificial junk them. That and a decaf coffee makes a nice little dessert on a regular day.
Christmas gifts! My soon to be four year old nephew asked for (via my sister) anything related to the show PJ Masks. Since I am kid free and had no idea what the heck that was I Googled. LOL You guys with kids probably know it is a Disney Jr. show. So cute! Little super heros. Found the little Gekko Mobile car that he wanted and a memory game that relates to the show. Told my sis so they won't buy the car, as he had asked for it. Great prices for that stuff on Amazon! It arrived yesterday at our house. I will wrap, then ship down to my mom's and bring it with me to their house when I see them at the holidays. Love to see their little faces when they open their gifts!
For my mom and step dad I am buying them a new grill (BBQ). Their's crapped out a year or two ago. Since they have had some other big expenses to conten with, they have not had the extra cash to get a new one. Which is too bad since they LOVE to BBQ. Living in FL, they can cook outside all year round. So I am cashing in some of my hotel points to "purchase" a Lowes gift card. We will buy the grill with that and then pay any additional, as needed, out of pocket. :)

LOVE that pic @ryenday so pretty... You must have a good camera to get that level of detail. Good work!

Thanks @jknight001 that is a great idea to use fennel - I LOVE it! For now I am cool with just leaving out the celery but in the future I might try that.
I do have a fabulous pea soup that I make with fennel that I am planning to make as a light day recipe after the New Year. I just have to figure out the specs, as it is a regular recipe that may need to be modified a little. The nice thing about that one is I think it is 8 servings - so less cooking and more freezing! WOO HOO!

So our gym has all new exercise equipment coming in as I type this! That means new weight machines, new treadmills, new a lot of stuff! Very exciting! The good thing is that some of the treadmills were looking pretty worse for wear and as of January 1 everybody comes out the wood work for about a month or so and then disappears again. :p So we REALLY need all the treadmills (they tend to be the most popular as of 1/1) to be running, but new machines would be even better! So new weight machines means I have to figure out what the heck I am doing all over again! I have notes and weights all written down. I may need to start over. Going to do a walk through tonight and see what is set up. The guy last night said everything should be good to go, but we shall see. If it is not, cardio it is!

Have a great day and I'll see you all soon. :)

Drive by post @Meghan509 I need your P soup recipe with fennel. I love both P soup and fennel. As a matter of fact any recipes that have Fennel I need to start gathering. I never had fennel before this year and I am totally taken with it

@meghan509 - Yes, the alumni will be coming shortly, repenting of their sins of 2017. :D Gym does get crowded! Hopefully the new machines will be close enough to what you are doing now that it won't put you back too much. You are doing so well in your work outs!

@RBXChas - I remembered that you were looking for new workout ideas. I read about Daily Burn today and thought it might intrigue you?

@ryenday - A simple idea for fennel is to heat up some olive oil, chop up the fennel (and the fronds if you like), throw it in the pan with some chopped up onion and salt. Saute until veggies are tender. Really yummy!

    Good morning everybody!!

Thursday is here! Light day woo hoo LOL. Honestly don't mind it when I have food I like to eat!

The gym went well last night. Got my weight work out in! The new weight machines were there, some of them in process, but the machines I like were all replaced which was awesome! What we hear is that another facility up the line closed so a lot of those machines, which happened to be newer, got moved to our location. VERY COOL. Tonight will be a cardio work out for me and I am hoping they have all the newer treadmills in tonight so we are not struggling to grab the machines we like. I think we should be in good shape! Got to give it to my gym. We go to Crunch and they are economical, friendly staff, always cleaning (!), and good at keeping up with demand. This is the first time I have consistently gone to a gym now for over five years and have to say we are both very happy.

@ryenday ask and you shall receive! I love fennel too! I have the pea soup recipe below and of course it is one I had modified and added fennel to. I am all about modifications, but if you stick with me and add it you will ENJOY IT! YUM. I will explain the recipe below. YUMMY!

@jknight001 thanks for that simple idea of fennel - yummy! We also have a friend of ours who is a chef and he had suggested roasting it in the oven with a little olive oil and salt. Then slicing it up and enjoying it. Sounded awesome but have not tried that yet.

Oh, if you have a Trader Joe's by you, then do check out their fennel - comes with two bulbs at a very reasonable price - I think it is a pound.

The pea soup recipe that I use and modify

    http://www.tabsandtidbits.com/slow-cooker-split-pea-soup/

    My modifications:
Leave out the carrots, celery, leek, parsley, and bay leaf.
Instead use one 32 ounce container of reduced sodium chicken or vegetable broth (I like organic) plus two cups of water
Add one small white onion chopped up
Add one bulb of fennel chopped up, or two if you like a lot of fennel
salt, pepper, garlic cloves to taste

I like to take some olive oil spray (low calorie) and roast the onion, garlic and fennel ahead of time in a frying pan to get it soft, before throwing it in the crockpot with the peas and broth. Gives it a nice flavor. I always cook stuff as long as possible in the crockpot. I prefer slow and low vs. faster.

When I last made it it came out to 270 calories for 6 servings. I am thinking if you add more broth you may be able to stretch it to 8 servings and use it as a light day meal. :)

@Meghan509 I Love me some roasted fennel. I cut it up into smaller pieces before I lightly oil and salt it. All of the fennel taste good this way – just needs different roasting times. Roast the whole plant the bulbs, the stems, and the grassy tops. So good! Sometimes if I have a lot of the fennel tops I will put them into a glass of water in the refrigerator. Then later that night I’ll take out the fennel and have fennel flavored water yummmmm

So cool! Your P soup recipe is very much like my own so I will just add fennel to my recipe. The main difference is I use 4 Cups vegetable broth and 4 cups chicken broth in my P soup. Sometimes I will add some cut up ham but I don’t like to do that because it adds quite a few calories and then it is no longer eligible for light days like today!

    Good morning everybody!

Pleased to report that the scale has FINALLY moved for me and I am down 2.4 pounds since last Friday! VERY HAPPY that I am now in the 160's for the first time since the 90's! :o Hoping to get another good week in, next week of 5:2 and then I am ready for the holidays. Going to put myself on maintence again and will be active with exercise and mindful with what I eat again. We do have a gym down in FL that we can go to, but it is a little far. :( So we have to see if that makes sense or see if we can go to a gym around the corner from my Mom's as guests (if not too $$$) or just get our exercise outside. :)

A big thank you to everybody here for encouraging me, helping me, cheering me on, and listening to me vent for the last few weeks - it has finally paid off. <3 I am grateful for your support.

Today is our office holiday luncheon. I am wearing a new black dress! Feeling pretty good. Got a few compliments already! Looking forward to a nice lunch with some wine!

So glad you like the pea soup recipe @ryenday and too funny that it is like your own! Regarding all the modifications - I think what ended up happening was I sort of merged two recipes together and that was what came out. I have made that one quite a bit and it never disappoints! SO GOOD and nice one for the cooler weather. Not sure if you have much of that down in TX, but you get the idea.

Alrighty, need to get some stuff done before lunch. Will check in again soon! Have a great day!

@Meghan509 Here is a gif of me after hearing about your huge loss.

Congrats! I bet it feels wonderful. I think the strength training is kicking in! Regarding the FL gym, I don't know if you checked into this but sometimes fitness companies have agreements with other gyms so that their members can go to another state and be able to still work out. If you haven't already, check with your gym to see if there is another gym that will let you work out with them that is closer to where you will be staying. Have a great time at your holiday party! So much to celebrate this year, right?

Well I did get called to appear at the courthouse. Thankful that today was the best day for it since my husband spends Fridays with our son. Sitting in the juror room waiting to see if I will be put on a jury or not.

Weighed in at .6lbs lighter today. Glad for that.

Hope you all have a good weekend!

Loooong week! BUT, I have been trying to not go overboard with the chocolates and everything else that has shown up in our room. That plus the tummy bug that has been going around, and I can feel that my rings are looser and not cutting off circulation like at the beginning of the week.
I have been reading everyone's comments. WAY TO GO on all the losses! You all are also inspiring me to make a batch of my favorite chicken noodle soup this weekend and portion it out for next week.
I hope you have a great weekend! Happy fasting!

Got sprung from jury duty. Wasn't too bad. Just sat around, went to lunch, sat around some more until they dismissed us at 2pm. Able to get some things done on my computer so all in all it wasn't that bad.

    Hi all!

Thanks for the nice congrats! Still grinning hee hee! :#

Just tried on a winter coat in a size 14 and it is way too big now. Cool that I am smaller but sad I won't be able to wear my pretty pink pea coat this year. :(

Thanks @jknight001 we are definately going to give that FL location a call to see if they will honor our membership. I have a feeling they will. It is just a matter of deciding if we want to drive that far. We will look in to it. Free is good!
Glad you are done with jury duty! Congrats on your loss!!!

Chicken noodle soup sounds yummy @KateNkognito we are having snow here today boo... Still going about our day - gym, grocery shopping, etc. I guess this is why I drive an SUV. LOL.

Have a good day and see you all soon!

yikes! I have sooooo much to read here!! Hello folks!! Thanks for the shout out last week... all is well here, I'm just a busy gal lately and I'm not even employed!!!! Just quickly touching base to say I'm still here... have had a couple of good fasts - one a week, but not logging everything because my poor hands have been sore typing on my phone! I find logging foods in by my phone easier than by the computer, it just kills my thumbs! That being said, I know I still need to log daily to see significant loss like YOU Meghan!! Congrats girl! And congrats to all of you for sticking with this program, your losses are on their way!

Fennel sounded interesting.... I had it roasted once but I've never done it, but do you flavour water with it?? I'd love to try as you know I love my flavoured waters!!! I've been on a kick of ginger water this week!

Also, on a note to my California friends... Jknight and @flossyruby1 those fires are tragic... so I hope they are not near your corner of the state!! They are on our vancouver news each day!! sending <3

gotta run and help with some lights outside! Christmas is coming!!!!! :p
Cheers people! Have a great weekend, sorry I'm so quick here, hope to have more time once I'm under control with my shopping!!!!!
