We meet here to explore, share, celebrate, and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.
This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!
Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion. Thread starters for January are:
Monday - GadgetGirlIL (Regina)
Tuesday - 88olds (George)
Wednesday - Beachwoman2006 (Cindy)
Thursday - Imastar2 (Derrick)
Friday - Jimb376mfp (Jim)
Today's topic: Spacing your meals out during the day.
Do you try to space your meals out during the day so as to have a good balance?
Which is your biggest meal of the day Breakfast, Lunch or Supper
Do you ever look at the Nutrients Section and the Macros if you track on MFP? If so what do you do with the information. (If WW has this info I can't find it.)

I give it a try to space meals out but being self employed and on my own schedule I don't plan to space meals out on a daily basis. I also will sleep in often times if there is no early appointment. I tend to eat breakfast whatever time I get going even if it's late. During the holiday season sometimes I would eat a late breakfast and dinner around 6. Most of the time though I get meals in a day spaced out as best I can. I do like routine but I swear the older I get the harder it is for me to get up early.

By far supper is my biggest meal. At my meeting with my Dietitian each month she keeps wanting me to try my best to make lunch the biggest meal but to date I keep on having supper as the biggest meal.

I do look at the Nutrient section of the MFP but I don't seem to find it as easy on the computer as I do the app.I look at it but I don't work with it, I wish I did b/c I feel it would do me a world of good. Looking at the balance of the Carbs/Fats/Protein in the Macros section is something that to me is very important. In the nutrients section it good to see how I stack up with the usage vs the goal. I'm amazed in the amount of sodium in food even trying to watch it and keep it under control. I also like looking at the pie chart under the calories that shows how many kcals you've had for each meal of the day including the snacks. It is a chart that is worth looking at and working towards perfection or keeping myself in line with my intake goals. Is it a lot to take in? Yes Do I do much with the info no but I keep working toward that goal.

Well, I try not to finish the contents of my lunchbag before noon! Usually what I have packed needs to last me all day ;-)
Which is your biggest meal of the day Breakfast, Lunch or Supper?
Breakfast is my biggest meal. Has been for many years.

I look at the totals of my protein to make sure I'm getting at least 100g/day. The sodium number can be useful if the scale has spiked.1 -

Yes. And same for my snacks. I try not to get too hungry.

Well, I probably get the most volume at breakfast.
But lunch or dinner are likely the most calories. Depends on the day. I had a big lunch on Monday. Regretted it. I’m happier with lunch and dinner being about the same.

I don’t count macros. But at one point I decided more protein would be a good idea. I started adding egg protein to my oatmeal. I’m down about 4 lbs since I started that with no other changes I can think of.1 -
I'm a schedule person. I have a small amount of oatmeal before I walk the dog at 6am. The rest of my breakfast is at 8am. Lunch at 12:30pm. Snack at 3:00pm. Dinner between 6 and 7pm.
My biggest meal of the day is dinner. It's after I workout so I'm usually pretty hungry!
I occasionally glance at the macros section. I don't pay too much attention to it, but if I'm extra hungry one day I like to see if it's because my macros are off (it usually is!)1 -
When I was working, yes...I tried to space my meals out. My "breakfast" was typically a piece of fruit about 9:30. My lunchtime was always 11:30 (mainly to beat the noon crowd in our cafeteria). What I had for lunch depended on what our cafeteria chef (yes we had a real chef) had prepared. He always prepared at least one very healthy meal. Once we started having WW@Work meetings, he prepared at least one meal that included WW points. Dinner usually didn't happen until about 7:00 and was usually a pretty light meal. Every night I had 2 planks of graham crackers with a glass of skim milk.
Since retiring, I just eat when I'm hungry. For instance, I'm almost never hungry when I first wake up so sometimes all I have is a cup of coffee. But then about 11:00 I find myself getting hungry so I may have what *most* people would consider breakfast. This morning that was 3 slices of Canadian bacon and 2 scrambled eggs.
That will most likely take care of me until about 6:00 at which point I'll have my dinner. It's unusual for me to know what I'm going to have from one day to the next, but I know that tonight I'll be having homemade vegetable beef soup because I have some leftover from the weekend. Tomorrow night will be spaghetti because I'm making spaghetti sauce today. The weekend? Not a clue what I'll be eating.
Right now I'm tracking on MFP and I do look at the nutrients section. I primarily want to be sure I'm getting enough protein and not overdoing it on carbs.1 -
I eat Breakfast lunch and dinner. Dinner being my main meal
Don't pay a lot of attention to the micros.1 -
Kinda space out the three mail meals, but evening munchies????
Dinner is usually the biggest meal. Not always most points though.
TOL tracks for the sodium intake, because I'm SUPPOSED to. LOL1 -
Do you try to space your meals out during the day so as to have a good balance?
Most days, yes. However there are exceptions and one of the things I like to do is be open to changes depending on how I'm feeling. I was never a '3 squares a day' guy, even before WW. However since time on-plan, I am even more mindful of when I am wanting food and how much of it. I find this helps me mix and match as needed for any given day.
Which is your biggest meal of the day Breakfast, Lunch or Supper
Usually it Supper, but not always (for the same reason as stated above).1 -
Everyone has some spacing. I eat a modest something about 9 am. I eat an early modest lunch 1/2 sandwich between about 11 a.m. and noon. I often have an afternoon snack of seasoned sprayed airpopped popcorn and eat dinner on average about 6:45 at night. I refuse to track micros or macros but eat a very healthy balance with plenty of daily Kale and more.
Biggest meal . Dinner is when I like to eat the most and certainly do.1
